Fake news the failing guardian news paper

Absolutely bizarre. Someone screams fake news but seeks to ignore elements of the media that print disinformation.

Absolutely no idea how you can link Corbyn and trump.

People who post threads simply to bash Corbyn but ignore countless Tory scandals could easily be accused of being cult like. Is this rational debate or party political point scoring?

SillySallySingsSongs · 14/08/2018 09:43

There is no point whatsoever comparing Corbyn with Trump, as they clearly have very different views on pretty much everything.

Obviously they are very different. The behaviour of their 'fanbase' and the way they support and follow them? Very similar.

Oakmaiden · 14/08/2018 09:50

Things is, there is so much rhetoric by both sides. It seems impossible to dig down to what the actual truth IS. What are the actual facts? And this difficulty in finding out what actually is the truth and what is spin I think is what makes people just shrug when another accusation like this is levelled.

Personally I think JC is a good, principled man. I do not believe he is either racist or anti-semetic. However, I also think he sometimes acts foolishly, and he does not have a firm enough hand on his party - probably because he is concerned that if he acts too decisively those within his party who despise him will rebel. And this leads to him not taking action or speaking loudly enough when he really should.

He is not perfect. I would, however, prefer it is politics was filled with more people like him and fewer like BJ or RM. However, it isn't, and that means he isn't a good fit as leader or a party. Which is a shame.

DaisyTwirl · 14/08/2018 09:51

Absolutely no idea how you can link Corbyn and trump.

Because they & their fanatical supporters employ the same tactics.

The two men may have very different politics, but their relationship with the truth is strikingly similar, as is their apparent belief that by merely stating that something 'didn't happen' it suddenly becomes fact.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/08/2018 09:54

Corbyn is popular. That is a crime now? Maybe that is why the Tory establishment is so shit scared. At least you’ve got rees mogg and Johnson, politicians of great integrity. If that fails, Farage.

lostincake · 14/08/2018 09:56

Corbyn knows he will get more votes from certain groups by doing and saying certain things so that is exactly what he is doing. Not many votes to be had from the small Jewish community so they can be thrown to the wolves.

DaisyTwirl · 14/08/2018 09:56

What are the actual facts?

He wrote about doing it just afterward.
There are pictures of him doing it.
The location of the pictures has been verified.
He confirmed last year that he did it (before the exact location was confirmed).

Yesterday he changed his story & lied.
'I don't think I was involved' - when there is a picture of him holding the wreath & offering prayers after, and he had written himself that he had laid the wreath.

What more facts do you actually want?!

SillySallySingsSongs · 14/08/2018 09:58

At least you’ve got rees mogg and Johnson, politicians of great integrity. If that fails, Farage.

The assumption that if you don't love Corbyn that you are a Tory or UKIP.

Never voted Tory or UKIP in my life.

HTH

roundaboutthetown · 14/08/2018 09:58

The behaviour of Farage's fanbase was similar. The behaviour of any fanatic is going to be similar. You're not going to put people off by calling them names. Politicians and the media constantly make use of people's fanatical tendencies when it suits them, then cry wolf when it gets out of their control. What exactly do you think politics is, anyway?

LaInfantaTortilla · 14/08/2018 10:00

I am not Jewish but do have some ancestors. Everywhere I go there are Jewish people in UK society whether that be openly obvious or mixed in with other religions in a family. Sorry, if that sounds ignorant but when I sat down and thought about it I realised the full abhorrence of Jeremy's actions. The Jewish community is a thread that runs right through our society and it is a massive insult the way they have been treated.

I just don't understand why Labour are putting up with him. Where have all the others gone like Yvette Cooper? Why didn't they break away and form another party that speaks sense.

As for the comments re Boris Johnson upthread. I'll take Boris over Teresa May and Jeremy Corbyn any day. He may be a buffoon but Jeremy Corbyn is far more dangerous.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/08/2018 10:01

The assumption that you defend Corbyn or point out the smear campaign against him does not make you a cultist or member of momentum. HTH.

SillySallySingsSongs · 14/08/2018 10:03

The assumption that you defend Corbyn or point out the smear campaign against him does not make you a cultist or member of momentum

Thinking he never does wrong, jumping to shout 'smear' when facts prove otherwise, including his own words. What would you call it exactly?

Echo2 · 14/08/2018 10:05

Corbyn’s popularity reminds me a lot of Nigel Farages’s popularity. Both men have a sort of cult following.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/08/2018 10:07

I know a concerted media campaign against a politician when I see it. People who scream about the the actions of one politician but ignore the questionable actions of others need challenging. In the interest of fairness and transparency

bananafish81 · 14/08/2018 10:07

I'm a (Jewish) member of the Labour party but it appears they don't much want people like me as members.

sunshinesupermum · 14/08/2018 10:13

Echo2 yes they do, don't they? Far Left isn't so far away from Far Right at all.

DaisyTwirl · 14/08/2018 10:14

The assumption that you defend Corbyn or point out the smear campaign against him does not make you a cultist or member of momentum. HTH.

😂😂 #NotACult

So:
somebody does something, is photographed doing it, writes an article themselves describing what they did, verbally confirms that they did indeed do it.....then a few years later they say it's not true....

The person who says 'but it is true!' is conducting a smear campaign??!!

Yep! Totes not a cult! Not at all...

sunshinesupermum · 14/08/2018 10:16

Ghost There are as many articles about Boris as about Corbyn. The facts are there about Corbyn's activities commemorating terrorists who tortured and butchered OLYMPIAN athletes. Enough already.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/08/2018 10:17

Yes, just ignore all the disinformation printed and said about Corbyn over the years. Not selective thinking, not political point scoring. Not at all. Hmm

BadLad · 14/08/2018 10:17

People who scream about the the actions of one politician but ignore the questionable actions of others need challenging.

From the point of view of anyone who doesn't support Corbyn, you need challenging by that logic, because that is exactly what you are doing.

Of course, everybody with the remotest interest in politics does that.

DaisyTwirl · 14/08/2018 10:18

Corbyn’s popularity reminds me a lot of Nigel Farages’s popularity. Both men have a sort of cult following.

Tommy Robinson's followers too.
He clearly broke his license conditions but was held up as some sort political prisoner.

Far right/far left? Different cult, same behaviour.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 14/08/2018 10:19

Boris is supported by the press. Arms are sold to Saudi. Absolute silence. Double standards. Political agenda at play, nothing to do with calling out injustices. Disingenuous.

DaisyTwirl · 14/08/2018 10:20

Yes, just ignore all the disinformation printed and said about Corbyn over the years.

Would that be all the things that he has actually done?
Just because his disciples scream SMEAR!!! at everything, it doesn't mean he somehow magically didn't do those things.
