Posting for traffic, need help as go on hols for 2 weeks on Friday need something to distract me big time from fear of flying and 2 weeks with DC Grin. Have read and loved all Outlander books, Song of Fire and Ice, Barbara Erskine. Want something similar historical/ fantasy, basically need complete escapism. Would be so grateful for any recommendations, Kindle is at the ready!

Thank you @moonlight1705! I couldn't think of the name of those Trudi Canavan books.. you may have saved me from going slightly madder .

Wideacre trilogy by Phillipa Gregory, also The Wise Woman same author.

The name of the wind by Patrick Rothfuss is brilliant escapism but is quite hefty. I second the Farseer series by Robin Hobb. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman is great.

I read Year of Wonder by Geraldine Brooks recently which is about the plague. Really enjoyed it - much more than I thought I would.

@StrawberryFieldsWhenever no problems - I hate it when you can't remember a title. Have you read her other ones - the Age of Five?

I think I need to start on a Neil Gaiman session by the looks of things, I've tried American Gods and wasn't sure but loved Stardust.

Adore the Century Trilogy by Ken Follett, it just makes sense of so many aspects of history for me (I'm an ancient historian, none of this modern stuff for me normally).

Oooh speaking of ancient history, there is also 'Achilles' and 'Circe' by Madeline Miller which are fab.
