To want to cancel my car lease? Advice needed!

I leased a car in January and found in June that the front passenger seat belt wasn't right. (There's usually only ever me and DS in the car, he sits in the back)

I called the dealership (ford) and booked it in to be looked at. They ordered a part to fix the fault so I took my car back two weeks later.

They then found that the fault wasn't that and that the seatbelt had been bolted in the completely wrong place.

They then asked me to transport it over an hour away to the body shop, where it would be 6 weeks until looked at. I refused as it isn't my responsibility as it's under warranty, it would cost time and money and I'd have no way of getting back anyway.

They agreed they shouldn't have asked Hmm and sorted it themselves.

Within the next week I received 2-3 phone calls asking how my car is doing, and they were quite confused to hear I hadn't had it back yet!!

A week later they call and ask how it is again, I tell them the same thing and they say oh well I need to bring my courtesy car back because it's due a service which wastes another hour and a half of my time.

It's now been 6 weeks since I last saw my car and they admit they have no clue what's happening with it at all. I spoke to a manager who was only interested in trying to get me onto a new lease (to make more money) and didn't seem to care about anything I said.

I want to cancel my lease but they're saying they won't unless I buy my way out of it. Considering my car should never have been allowed to leave the factory with such a serious safety fault, is there anything more I can do? Isn't it illegal to have a faulty seat belt?

I was very satisfied with my car and lease arrangement but now I'm annoyed and fed up of them messing me around. I've had several cars from them in the past and was happy with them, their sales team is great but their service team has been appalling, probably because no money is involved at that end!!

Any advice about where to go from here?
It doesn't seem right that they gave me a car that should never have been allowed to leave the factory and are keeping me tied in to it

I work in car sales and if I were you I would go straight to the manufacturer. Unless your dealer is Trust Ford, then you're dealing with a franchise so go straight to Ford Head Office.

Thank you very much for your reply!! I will get in touch with them ASAP.
I hope they'll care a bit more than the dealership, they aren't interested what so ever!
