To be fed up of colleague talking about her holiday?

LauraKaren · 12/08/2018 10:17

That happened 4 years ago!

She even got me over to her computer to show me her itinerary Hmm

I can be happy for people and when they come back from holiday I of course want to hear about it, see photos etc

BUT when they’ve been banging on about it for the 2 years I’ve kmown them and it wasn’t even recent then, aibu to just want to scream - shut up already!

lol where did she go? I hope it was somewhere spectacular at least

katielouise3 · 12/08/2018 10:20

How odd.

Just ask her WHY she keeps on about an old holiday?

Ask her if it's because she can't afford another one.

RoseRuby26 · 12/08/2018 10:24

Yanbu. Just don't engage. Or repeat "yes, you've told me"

MrsSteptoe · 12/08/2018 10:26

I am really conscious of this and keep wishing people would stop asking me about my holiday (a couple of weeks ago). We went on a one-off and I really feel like I'm being a holiday bore, but I'm trying not to be, IYSWIM. I feel like everyone must be hearing me describing "well, we started on in.... yes, it was.... "

Has she nothing else to talk about? Crikey.

LynetteScavo · 12/08/2018 10:43

Hasn't she been on holiday since?

Lydiaatthebarre · 12/08/2018 10:45

YANBU. I'm not even particularly interested in people's recent holidays apart from 'yes we had a lovely time. Weather was nice, hotel was lovely' end of. type of conversation. People giving you a blow by blow account complete with endless photos just make my eyes glaze over.

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 12/08/2018 10:45

Ask her if it's just because she can't afford another one - how fucking nasty. What if she can't?

What if the OP cannot afford a holiday, and this colleague won't shut the fuck up about HERS?

Now THAT is 'fucking nasty.'

FFS.

ScreamingValenta · 12/08/2018 10:55

It sounds a bit strange - perhaps she struggles to find things to talk about and views this holiday as the one thing she's done that makes her interesting. I think you should try to be kind about this. If she starts talking about it again, say something like 'Yes, I remember you told me about that last week, it sounded great.'

ApolloandDaphne · 12/08/2018 10:58

How very weird. Is it the only holiday she has ever had and was it to a spectacular place. Maybe she feels the need to relive it over and over. Does she have quite a small and boring life?

Sevendown · 12/08/2018 10:59

Was it Orlando?

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 12/08/2018 11:00

C'mon your comment was about whether she could afford it or not - so obviously a dig- not believing your backtrack for a sec.

YouKnowWhatIMean · 12/08/2018 11:01

Dubai?

OwlinaTree · 12/08/2018 11:02

I guess it's holiday season, everyone's talking about holidays. This was her best one so she's talking about it?

Sisgal · 12/08/2018 11:03

Katielouise3...wow. why are you so angryHmm

BarefootHippieChick · 12/08/2018 11:07

Was it Orlando

No, probably a B&B in Blackpool.

Aridane · 12/08/2018 11:10

Lol - this thread has generated a holiday add called ‘travel swagger ‘ in the sidebar!

EdWinchester · 12/08/2018 11:13

That is very weird.

I give holidays a scant mention at work on my return as I don't want to be a bore. But 4 years later? Where the fuck did she go?

DerelictWreck · 12/08/2018 11:15

KatieLouise3 you are all over the boards today acting like a dick - is something the matter? Would you like to share with the group?

Winebottle · 12/08/2018 11:18

Holiday chat is boring unless it is an amusing story or somewhere you have been yourself so can compare. I know people who have been travelling for a year and I haven't even spoken to them about it.

hannnnnnnxo · 12/08/2018 11:19

Sounds like she hasn’t left the country since, and yet still wants to brag to colleagues and ‘compete’ with those that have been on a recent holiday

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 12/08/2018 11:23

Bless her, I feel sorry for her. Sounds like she can’t afford another holiday but feels she needs to fit in. I probably say ‘you’ve really told me all this many times, I don’t need to keep hearing about it’ but try and be kind

astoundedgoat · 12/08/2018 11:26

Totally depends on where the holiday was and if it is relevant now.

There's a huge difference between "OMG, this one time, in Ibiza..." for years on end and "Oh - you're going to Vietnam in September? I was there for 1 year in 2014 and got to know it really well - can I show you a really unusual itinerary with some awesome food?"

Stuckinthis · 12/08/2018 11:32

It definitely depends on the holiday or context. If she went on one of those Virgin space trips for her holiday then I’d expect that to be a conversation topic for life - if it was Bognor Regis then I’d be politely changing the subject every time it came up.
