DH rang from MIL house :
DH: mum wants to know if kids have anything decent to wear to 'x' wedding next week.
Me: why
DH: oh nothing she just was going to go and buy them some stuff so they don't look scruffy.
Me: whatever
DH: well if you're going to be like that, bye.

(Didn't hang up properly)
DS: what was that?
Me: oh grandma thinks we might embarrass her next week so wants to buy you lot new clothes

DH : rings back says heard what I said, big fall out.

Who is being UR?
Prepared for a roasting, background not first time MIL/FIL changed DC clothes, decided my choices (clothing/gifts/places to visit) were not acceptable

Urgh, if Mummy’s opinion is so important he can go live with her permanently.

I have had a hic-cuppy relationship with DM over the years, but one of the best pieces of advice she gave me growing up, was to never worry about what other people think I look like, because they will be far to busy worrying about what they look like themselves.

The older I get, the more truth I see in that.

But people are going to comment

And that is their problem.

timeisnotaline · 13/08/2018 21:20

Dh is taking them so dc should turn up in rags. You should call mil and apologise loudly for what dh puts them in. Say he jsut wasn’t brought up right Grin

winterisstillcoming · 13/08/2018 21:30

I wouldn't dress them immaculately at all. I would return the clothes I bought them and let DH sort them out.

He is just playing you off against his mum. Disengage completely.

winterisstillcoming · 13/08/2018 21:32

However, if I was to engage I would promise the kids an offer that was far better than the wedding and let DH go on his own.
