So there is a thread about TV characters and it got me thinking. So AIBU to ask what movie really makes you cry?
The Green Mile. The moment when Tom Hanks says "We love you. Can you feel that?"
Sad

I was sobbing at the end of Bridges of Maddison county, I was due my period when I watched it so was extra emotional.

I kill Giants and of course My Girl get me going too.

policeandthieves · 11/08/2018 08:51

Cant believe the number of times Marley and me has been named, will be shot down in flames but what an utterly shite film. Manipulated to get the heartstrings going to cover how truly crap it is.

However Still Alice and I, Daniel Blake both had me sobbing so not totally stony hearted but like a PP was on a plane so really embarrassing and both times travelling with colleagues just to make it worse.

Jean De Florette/Manon Des Sources. Even the book made me cry!

TheHalfBloodPrincess · 11/08/2018 08:54

When Woody says ‘so long, partner’ at the end of Toy Story 3

duffbeergoggles · 11/08/2018 08:55

Hachi: A dogs tale.

Seen it twice. Can't watch it any more. And I'm hard as nails!!!

Macarena1990 · 11/08/2018 08:56

I'm always sobbing through films - the most recent one was Wonder. I was howling.

phlebasconsidered · 11/08/2018 08:56

Untamed Heart. Old, but with a brilliant Christian Slater and Marisa Tomei.

zombie999 · 11/08/2018 08:59

@TheHalfBloodPrincess everyone loves tom hanks.....I imagine that quote will be one to be remembered when he is no longer here Sad

Bananarama12 · 11/08/2018 09:00

Marley and me.
My sister's keeper.
P.s I love you.
Pretty much anything can make me cry once but Marley and me gets me every single time. I cannot watch that film!
Most recently mamma mia 2.

idontknowwhatimdoing · 11/08/2018 09:01

Shawshank redemption

Untouchables

Dreams of a life

This is also reminding me of a film/ tv programme we tried to watch recently. It was set somewhere in Africa/ India I think, with these two orphan brothers, one was about 4 and the other about 14 and each day the older boy went to work on a train and the younger boy had to wait at the station. One day he doesn't come back. I was crying so bad I had to turn it off. Don't know what happened! Does anyone know it?

baublegirl454 · 11/08/2018 09:02

Thank you @poppybell that was it

Decemberly · 11/08/2018 09:07

@user1andonly yes to Who Will Love My Children! I remember watching it as a child with my mum and aunt and we all bawled our eyes out! 😭

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 11/08/2018 09:10

Someone mentioned The Mighty upthread... God when the boy is running through the streets with no shoes on kills me.

In the name of the father gets me every time... the burning paper falling from the windows and the ending where they don't want Jerry to go out the front door and he tells them he's a free man.

Annamadrigal · 11/08/2018 09:12

Definitely War Horse!!
Steel Magnolias
Whoever mentioned Once Were Warriors- I sat in complete stunned silence for about 20mimutes after that film, pummeled with sadness for the daughter and rage! And Jake The Muss's futile fury- argh!

Goldenphoenix · 11/08/2018 09:13

The Pianist makes me sob, amazing film.
Up - so poignant without any dialogue at all.
Green mile.
Shawshank.
The Notebook.
Bambis Mum being shot.
Marley and Me.

Boofay · 11/08/2018 09:17

It's already been mentioned once, but while I've cried at many films, the only film that's left me ugly crying with snot running down my face was Me Before You. Heartbreaking film, even had my husband in tears, and he never cries at films.
Haven't read the book yet, by its by my bed for when I'm ready to be brave!

Roussette · 11/08/2018 09:21

Agree on lots of those, love Shawshank but my crying bit is when Andy locks himself into the office and plays that beautiful haunting music to the whole prison. Everyone standing still, the hopelessness of the inmates etc... it gets me every time. 'Get busy living or Get busy dying...'

I've always loved that piece from Marriage of Figaro since it was in an advert years ago... beautiful.

Roussette · 11/08/2018 09:22

I quite fancy a snuffle fest... might check and see if some of these are on Netflix Grin

HurricaneHalle · 11/08/2018 09:26

Lion

viques · 11/08/2018 09:27

Goodbye Mr Chips, but only if it is the original with Robert Donat and Greer Garson.

I get sniffly at the opening credits, because I know I am in for a sob fest.

I start crying at the beginning because they are so mean to him because he doesn't understand what he is doing wrong.

Then I cry when they meet because it is so sweet.

Then I cry when they are happy because I know what's coming.

Then I howl at the bad thing (I am tearing up thinking about the scene in the classroom when the boys gradually learn what has happened)

Then I cry at the boys going off to fight and the ones who don't come back.

Then I cry at the end at all those little faces saying goodbye.

That is my real ugly crying film, but I also have a good sniffle at Starman (Jeff Bridges) and incidentally Netflix why do you charge for such an old film????

I also need tissues for Steel Magnolias and Beaches.

Mari50 · 11/08/2018 09:29

The most recent film I’ve watched that had me in tears was 3 billboards outside ebbing Missouri, not the whole film mind, just a bit in the middle that I won’t ruin for anyone who hasn’t seen it.
Definitely jean de florette and manon des sources- both heartbreaking.
The beginning of UP, the green mile, and depressingly I cried watching Tangled with my dd once, even she was embarrassed for me.

bagelbaby · 11/08/2018 09:30

Any Toy Story film
The scene and song with Jess the cowgirl ...."when she loved me". OMG

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 11/08/2018 09:33

Marley and me and a dogs purpose 😩 I wasn’t ugly crying as I’ve never done that at a movie.... the notebook as well 😊

mermaidsandunicorns · 11/08/2018 09:34

Me before you
