Rejected from donating blood....

....due to high blood pressure.

More of a WWYD really, I suppose.

I’m so upset. I’ve been donating for 20 years with no problems. I’m 39 and thanks to the donation service recording all my BPs, I now see my BP has been creeping up over the last few years. I’ve booked an appointment with my GP, but does anyone have any suggestions?

I’m so upset! I know it’s such a silly thing to be upset about and I will shake it off, but I feel upset. Trying to put my finger on why.

I can't donate because of transfusion I had at the birth of DD nearly 19 yrs ago. A real shame as I did it a lot up til then. Luckily, my DS26 goes to donate and has a rare blood type and has donated platelets a couple of times, which is fantastic. Takes longer and makes him feel a bit weird apparently but he does it.

Running....
Thanks for the info, I didn't know that, it's never happened before. Good to know it's not wasted.
He collected half a pint before stopping the donation.
It turns out it was his first day !!😀

Thanks 4 the info, NorthStar. I think mine was about 127/90 which seemed high to me, but good to be reminded about problems I don't have.

I’m embarrassed to say it was 147/109.

Why? Hypertension is a disease. It's not called 'the silent killer' for nothing and there are many instances in which it is not caused by lifestyle. It can definitely run in families and is more prevalent among certain ethnic groups. Get checked out and get to the root of it.

I'd love to be able to donate but have recently had a malignant melanoma diagnosis so I'm not allowed Sad

My 9 year old DS had many transfusions during chemotherapy 2015-17 and i would have loved to have "given back" for that reason. So thank you to all of you that do donate!
