AIBU Why do English people curtsy to the royal family?

I need to stop reading the Daily Mail, but there was an article there about how “low” you should curtsy to your betters.

...there was a photo of Theresa May curtsying to Prince William, of all people. I found it absolutely repulsive.

Think what you will of her, but should she be bowing and scraping in front of a 30-something dude that hasn’t done much with his life? She’s the PM fer chrissakes!!!

Because watching Tessa May and her curtsies are a thing of wonder

Whoops double post

@Greenyogagirl England died the moment it turned its back on its nearest neighbours, gave into xenophobia, and decided to be so arrogant as to believe it was somehow superior to the rest of the world.

Greenyogagirl · 12/08/2018 02:34

hadenough lmao if you say so 😂

Greenyogagirl · 12/08/2018 02:35

She looks like she’s fallen over and is being helped up!

hadenough · 12/08/2018 02:44

Well @Greenyoagirl I do, but you probably can't see a world outside your own box.

But as Jacob Rees Mogg said, you'll have at least 50 years before you see any benefit, so enjoy the bad times :-)

NeedsAsockamnesty · 12/08/2018 02:48

Their income derives from the post tax income of the Duchy of Cornwall

That’s prince Charles. The queens privy purse is derived from the duchy of Lancaster.
The income she receives each year from tax payers is the sovereign grant which tax payers who aren’t keen on this appear to forget is a percentage of about 15% of the profits from the crown estate that she surrenders to the treasury in full and is based on what was paid 2 years before so this years would be 15% of what was swurrewmdered by her to the treasury in 2016

NeedsAsockamnesty · 12/08/2018 02:49

swurrewmdered

I think I invented a new word. It’s meant to be surrendered

Greenyogagirl · 12/08/2018 02:49

Haha ok whatever you say! Thanks for the amusement anyway, night Grin

hadenough · 12/08/2018 02:52

@greenyogagirl I happily emigrated to Europe, and won't have to deal with the fallout. :-) People like you happily remind me exactly why I left (I'm not small minded, see the good in people from all nationalities, and believe in a world bigger than the small country you inhabit).

sweetsomethings · 12/08/2018 02:57

Rose there are many Scottish royalists many

Greenyogagirl · 12/08/2018 02:59

The fact that I don’t think any country need to be in the eu, as there are currently countries not in the eu doesn’t make me small minded etc small minded might be deciding to base your opinion of a stranger on the fact they’re from a country you so clearly dislike but you probably can’t see a world outside your own box

hadenough · 12/08/2018 03:03

@greenyogagirl I actually used to love England, my love disappeared the moment I realised how racist and small minded it had become.

As I say, good luck. As Jacob Rees Mogg has said, you can expect 50 years of slower growth and reduced GDP.

I'll happily be here in Europe enjoying a better life.

Greenyogagirl · 12/08/2018 03:08

I don’t really care for anything that comes out of that weasels mouth.
Maybe it was just your circle/city that was small minded and racist, where I live is a wonderful mix of cultures. You be happy in the eu, I’m not sure what you want, a round of applause?

sweetsomethings · 12/08/2018 03:10

I remember reading an article that said the royal family brought in more money in tourism per year than what they cost the taxpayer.

hadenough · 12/08/2018 03:14

@Greenyogagirl -- Yes, I expected as much, the Brexiteers resort to personal insults because, of course, they have nothing of substance to contribute.

As I say, good luck. Enjoy living in a smaller, poor, less respected and weaker country :-)

Greenyogagirl · 12/08/2018 03:23

I didn’t vote brexit so carry on with your assumptions if you want, they’re just making me chuckle Smile

hadenough · 12/08/2018 03:26

@greenyogagirl Of course you didn't. When it all goes wrong, it definitely won't be your fault.

As I say, enjoy the result, higher prices in the shops, a weaker economy, and fewer opportunities in the future.

Frankly, your attitude has demonstrated you deserve Brexit, so enjoy it :-)

Greenyogagirl · 12/08/2018 03:32

My attitude? I think you need to take a look at yourself! And I actually didn’t vote either way, I’m just not idiotic enough to tar an entire country with the same brush and assume everything will fall to bits, the only one showing themselves as small minded, Xenophobic and generally just mean is you.

hadenough · 12/08/2018 03:37

@greenyogagirl - It makes sense, you didn't vote, because let's be honest, you probably couldn't be bothered.

I'm not the one who has contributed towards condemning a country to lower economic growth, less prospects and a less certain future.

Do you even know what xenophobic means (guessing not by your last relpy)?

sweetsomethings · 12/08/2018 03:39

Hadenough I don’t understand why you keep saying England are to blame. You do realise over 1 million Scots voted to leave the EU too .

Greenyogagirl · 12/08/2018 03:42

wow maybe you should see a therapist for all of these issues, for someone who apparently emigrated maybe you should be less worried about the U.K. hmm let’s see, who here dislikes people just because of the country they’re from, ding ding ding well somebody it’s you.

My reasons for choosing not to vote are none of your business, why are you so nasty? If the eu is so bloody great sod off and enjoy it then.

LaurieMarlow · 12/08/2018 03:47

I remember reading an article that said the royal family brought in more money in tourism per year than what they cost the taxpayer.

This is fundamentally unquantifiable. Chances are we'd make even more money if we git rid of them and fully opened their residences up to the public.

hadenough · 12/08/2018 03:52

@sweetsomethings My country overwhelmingly voted No, unlike England.

@Greenyaogagirl I'm not worried, I just think it's sad that a country which once had a great deal of international respect is now a joke to most of Europe.
