I will start by telling you mine but not saying I'm perfect either! Yesterday while driving to Aldi (a short distance away) I met a cyclist who was cycling towards me on the wrong side of the road! Next a car in front of me braked suddenly and turned right without indicating and then to top it all off the car park was almost full when I got there with not 1 but 2 small cars parked so badly that both used 2 spaces each! I managed to park in the end thankfully so tell me what your driving/parking pet hates are....

No Meredinto, they stop suddenly to let people cross from pavement to pavement, causing all traffic to stop, causing blockages in rush hour. And the pushing in at the junction has caused a lot of accidents where I live. You're meant to wait.

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 10/08/2018 19:31

@rightknockered I agree with you. Whether it takes 30 second or 30 mins, you wait until it's clear to go, not stick half way out causing problems.

safariboot · 10/08/2018 19:38

Headlamps brighter than the sun, or just using full beams in town. All I can see is this dazzling light in my mirrors and turning the interior of my car to day. It particularly pisses me off because most bad drivers just do something stupid and then go their own way, but some idiot with their pair of supernovas behind me is going to be behind me for an extended time.

safariboot · 10/08/2018 19:39

Also at the opposite end of the spectrum, cyclists who ride on the road at night with no damn lights at all. Idiots.

Sirzy · 10/08/2018 19:42

People who think the second they turn their indicator on the other cars are beamed up and they can just move out!

Seniorschoolmum · 10/08/2018 19:44

Not indicating. Every car has indicators, they aren’t an optional extra. Ffs use them....!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 10/08/2018 19:49

It's been mentioned a few times - just two things for me:

Middle lane hogs

... and those who don't comprehend 'merge in turn'/zip merge. They straddle two lanes and cause a bigger backlog. Knobs! Every single one of them.

Gatehouse77 · 10/08/2018 19:51
  1. People who are incapable of correctly indicating themselves ON and OFF a roundabout - drives me fucking insane.

And DH is one of those lazy fuckers Angry and, at times, a typical Mercedes wanker driver which means I sink lower and lower in my seat.

  1. People who don't know how to align themselves in advance of an obstacle so that the traffic can flow properly but stick themselves behind the obstacle therefore needing waaaay more road than necessary to go around it. (Does that make sense? I know what I mean but am not sure I've expressed it clearly.)

  2. Middle lane hoggers.

  3. People who suddenly appear behind you on the motorway instead of leaving a suitable gap. (DH are you listening??)

GruciusMalfoy · 10/08/2018 19:53

Again, people who can't indicate. Especially on roundabouts.

People fannying about on the slip road onto motorways, get moving!

TedAndLola · 10/08/2018 19:55

Middle lane drivers.

Tailgaters.

Cyclists. Pretty much everything cyclists do.

3girlmama · 10/08/2018 20:02

Not saying thank you for waiting or letting someone in/out of a turning!

3girlmama · 10/08/2018 20:03

Parking in parent and child spaces minus a child!!!

HushabyeMountainGoat · 10/08/2018 20:15

People who trail at 45mph on NSL roads

People who brake unnecessarily for ever little bend

People who refuse to overtake when safe to do so resulting in massive queues building up behind the slow vehicle

People who overtake when it is decidedly unsafe to do so and end up having to push back into the queue of traffic when there isn't a space for them

People who block junctions/ roundabouts in traffic so that oncoming traffic can't turn right

People who don't let you out of junctions in busy traffic

AornisHades · 10/08/2018 20:19

Outside lane hoggers after encountering today's gem.
Merc A class trundling along at under 65mph. Nothing in the middle lane. Much undertaking was going on.

Mmmmdanone · 10/08/2018 20:27

People turning left at a roundabout -while I'm waiting to go -that don't indicate. It happens so often.

Lethaldrizzle · 10/08/2018 20:37

Drivers who don't give cyclists enough room

Gretagumbo · 10/08/2018 20:40

Angry intimidating men

Butterfly98 · 10/08/2018 21:41

This evening the driver in front of me drove for about 3 miles with the right indicator on the whole time! The stereo was blaring so loud he obviously couldn't hear the bleeping inside the car or notice it on his dashboard either. I flashed my lights twice at him but he was totally oblivious to what was going on around him and a complete danger on the road. A dash cam would have been very handy in case he did something even more hazardous.... out of interest does anyone on here have one?

OP posts:
BlueBug45 · 10/08/2018 21:53

I have a dash cam but don't always use it.

Oddly the day I used it recently I had this man in a clapped out van driving so badly he nearly went into the back of me. For some reason he decided to weave in and out of traffic near a town trying to get above the speed limit. I hope he continued until the dual carriageway as there is a police speed camera van there during light hours.

inabeautifulplace · 10/08/2018 22:36

Tailgaters. Just don't get it. I have to go SLOWER you idiot, because I now need to be more aware of potential hazards. Due to the permanent one right behind me.

People who barge in at traffic queues. Don't remember an indicator generating some sort of right of way forcefield back in the day. And it doesn't work when you drive into the side of my car, you fucking muppet!

When cycling, drivers assuming you're doing 5mph, when you're doing 20 or 25 (or 45 down a hill. Yes I am fat, celebrate gravity!). So pulling out in front of you or failing to complete overtakes safely. Passing too close, or through pinch points. Especially when there's nothing coming the other way. Other cyclists, riding like idiots and giving the rest of us a bad name. You can't complain when drivers don't follow the rules if you break them yourself.

Generally though, where I live seems to have quite pleasant drivers. I also think that people give cyclists more room and respect than they used to. Imagine this is linked to sporting success and the subsequent rise in popularity.

MargaretDribble · 10/08/2018 23:08

Has anyone mentioned motorbikes weaving in and out of traffic, narrowly avoiding knocking the wing mirrors off cars?

Solasshole · 10/08/2018 23:24

Twat in a van who wouldn't let myself or my aunt (in another car) change lanes (after plenty of indicating) and instead sped up purposefully so neither of us could join his lane. We needed to join said lane to take the correct exit at the upcoming roundabout. Barely any other traffic on the road so not like we were trying to skip a queue and merge later on or anything.

Also we were on our way to a family members funeral. And we were following the hearse. Hmm

RedPill · 10/08/2018 23:34

I'm a cyclist and I hate when drivers leave their full beams on.

MissConductUS · 10/08/2018 23:40

A dash cam would have been very handy in case he did something even more hazardous.... out of interest does anyone on here have one?

I do. We have one in both cars after an incident a few years ago with a road raging driver. We have two Garmin units, a model 30 and a model 35:

Garmin Dash Cam 35

I see on amazon that there are some newer models out now. They've both worked flawlessly and I love having one knowing that every driver making a dick move in front of me is being recorded. Garmin makes really good quality equipment.

BonnieF · 10/08/2018 23:40

I drive on motorways every day, and the number of people I still see with their heads down looking at their phones is genuinely scary. Even the prospect of a 6 point penalty doesn’t deter them. WTF is wrong with these people?
