To ask if anyone does actually get up at the cracks of dawn to exercise?

Chatting to a friend about fitting in exercise and a full time job. Mentioned getting up at 5 to exercise before getting ready for work. Surely people don't get up that early to exercise? If they do what time do they go to bed?
Is it unreasonable to think 5am is just too early?

Just started doing this. Got a few stones of baby weight to shift, and though lark I am not, I'm just too tired by the time I finish work. So it's gym at 6am. Ugh. I'm hoping I'll grow to love it and not think "fuck this" by week three!

CountFosco · 09/08/2018 21:24

I get up at 5am, and do a ton of housework and go for a swim before work. I much prefer exercising in the morning. I do love an avocado but don't talk about them! I am ready for bed about midday and should really go to bed a lot earlier than I actually do.

Greyhorses · 09/08/2018 21:25

I get up at 5, ride and muck out horse and walk dogs then head to work.

By the evening I can’t be bothered to do anything though so it’s then or never!

fairgroundsnack · 09/08/2018 21:25

I get up at 5am 3 times a week to go running (between 5:30 and 6:30). It’s the best time to run!

delphguelph · 09/08/2018 21:27

I do like the thought of it though. Crisp morning mist, no-one around, dew on the grass, fresh air a go go....

But nah. Love me bed.

shinyredbus · 09/08/2018 21:31

My boss has done his hype park run by 615am. No idea what tine he’s up but he’s at work by 7.

EnormousDormouse · 09/08/2018 21:32

In term time I'm up at 5.15am to get to school for 6.30am - some staff fit a swim in at this point but I can't face it.
Most days this holiday I've been down the gym for the 7am rpm or HIIT class though. The problem with early exercise is that I normally don't eat til midday and after doing these early classes I'm starving by 10am

beela · 09/08/2018 21:40

I love exercising first thing, I get up about 6am 4 or 5 mornings a week to fit in a hiit session before the rest of the house is up.

This backfired spectacularly one day in midwinter when I rolled out of bed and into my exercise gear, went downstairs, cued up the dvd, got a glass of water etc etc only to glance at the kitchen clock and realise that it was actually only 1am, and my alarm clock was bust Shock

JynxaSmoochum · 09/08/2018 21:40

I've been up at 6 and out by 6:30 to fit in an hour's run before DH goes to work in order to beat the heat recently. Now it's the school holidays, I'll continue to get up early as I'll have the DCs around all day.

The evenings are too busy in term time and too warm and humid anyway.

I've enjoyed the wildlife with the extra lively birdsong, foxes and hares still being active.

I could talk about avocados, they are a bugger to prepare, and DM's avacado bathroom suite is long past its best before date Wink

FoodieToo · 09/08/2018 21:40

Yes I do . Well at 6:15 . I’m a teacher though so term time only .
If I don’t go then I don’t really have time later in the days.

ElinorOliphantIsCompletelyFine · 09/08/2018 21:42

I do. I get up at 5:15 every day to do yoga. I usually go to bed between 9-10pm

Seriousquestion09 · 09/08/2018 21:45

I’m a HITT enthusiast and loved working out after work. I now work out mornings though and prefer it.

I’ve done it for a year now and get up at 5:45 to hit gym for 30 minute cardio blast on treadmill and then my PT class for 30-60 minutes. There are quite a lot of people in the gym around this time too.

LemonysSnicket · 09/08/2018 21:47

I don't. DP gets up at 7 to play squash before work and I get up at 8.30 to cycle to work ( we both start work late though lol)

zerozerooneone · 09/08/2018 21:48

I get up at 5 to go to the gym. Back by 6.30 to get kids and me up and out for work/school.
I don't like it but I don't get home til 6 and by the time I've done bedtime and had tea It's too late.

Lockheart · 09/08/2018 21:49

I envy those who can do this.

I’m glued to my bed until the last possible minute in the morning. My entire routine is designed to minimise the time it takes to get ready so I can stay in bed as long as possible!

CocoaGin70 · 09/08/2018 21:50

Because of the heat, I've been getting up and going for a long dog walk at 6am and it's kind of become a habit. It's lovely being up and about before everyone else. It's even lovelier coming home after an hour or so and no one is up yet so the kitchen is my own for a quiet cup of tea.

4yearsnosleep · 09/08/2018 21:50

It's my favourite time to work out. Though due to having to change work hours it's now 6am. I used to like being in work for 7:30 but I've always been a morning person

lastqueenofscotland · 09/08/2018 21:52

Yep, usually go out for a 30/40 min run at 6am if I’ll be too busy on the evening.
I used to get up at 5:45 without fail every day

Butternutsqoosh · 09/08/2018 21:55

What do you all do with your kids?? Can't drag mine out of bed that early let alone take them to the gym!!

NameChanger22 · 09/08/2018 21:57

In my 20s and early 30s I did. No chance now.

GlowWine · 09/08/2018 21:59

Yup I do too. Need to be out of the house for my morning run by 6am so I can be back before 7 when DH leaves for work. And on occasion I even enjoy it.

4yearsnosleep · 09/08/2018 22:00

@Butternutsqoosh I work out at home. My OH often works away and our gym doesn't open until 7:30 🤷🏽‍♀️ I use Jillian Michael's app

NicoAndTheNiners · 09/08/2018 22:04

I get up at 6am at weekends to be in the gym for 7am.. can workout for a few hours, then have brunch/lunch with friends in the gym and get home with plenty of time to get stuff done.

AuntieMay · 09/08/2018 22:05

Yes I do, every non,wed and Fridays up at 05:30 for an outdoor boot camp all year round and try and do a run on Tuesdays and Thursday. I was up at 5:45 this morning and out for a 5k run - was lovely and cool.
I go even on non work days and sometimes weekends too as I much prefer early morning exercise to any other time.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/08/2018 22:06

I get up at 5.15 to exercise. It's the only time I can fit it in, so I just grit my teeth and do it.
