To ask what phone you would upgrade too?

Just looking for opinions. Can upgrade next week and have no idea what to go for.

Have had an iPhone for the last 5 years....usually I'd just upgrade and get the iPhone 8 but I don't know if I fancy a change.

Only thing that's putting me off is if I were to get a Samsung....how to do I transfer all my photos/videos and music on to it? Or is that not even possible?

Anyone upgraded recently and can say what phone they love and what phone they were disappointed with?

Thank you kindly Smile

I have an iPhone 6s which I will keep until it dies, I always buy outright then pay and go so don’t really have an upgrade time, iphone is nearly 3 years old and fine it is a 64gb one so plenty of space, I don’t use it that much though only when out, I use my iPad and iMac at home. When it wears out I will upgrade to whatever’s current and buy outright again

beautifultrauma · 10/08/2018 19:28

I upgraded recently from IPhone to the Huawei p20 pro and I'd never go back! It is amazing! The camera is brilliant and the battery lasts a long time too. I'd definitely recommend it.

ThisIsntMeHonestGuv · 10/08/2018 19:32

I have a one plus. My next phone will either be a oneplus or a Huawei. Probably oneplus.

Nat6999 · 10/08/2018 19:36

I've got a Galaxy S8, I'm due for an upgrade next year & will be having the S10 or S10+, I had iPhones from when they started but found the apps too restrictive & battery life was poor. I prefer the fact I can install unlicensed apps & can use a memory card to increase storage.

PrincessMargaret · 10/08/2018 22:18

I have a Samsung A5 2017 and love it. Re back up, I have everything linked to my Google account with a gmail email and it was dead easy to transfer everything.

AliTheMinx · 10/08/2018 22:21

I love my Samsung Galaxy, and the camera is way better than the iPhone camera.

movinonup · 10/08/2018 22:29

I would also recommend the oneplus 6 (especially in the red)
My DP put me on to them as he has had the oneplus 1 and currently has the oneplus 3....He is also very very jealousof my oneplus 6 :)

The oneplus 1 he had was given to a friend and is still going strong now.

MsBagelLady · 10/08/2018 22:30

I was an iPhone fan until my iPhone fell out of my pocket and the screen beneath the screen protector broke and I replaced with a Samsung S7 edge. I shall never go back to the iPhone. I have a Macbook but phonewise, Samsung is king.

Fireworks91 · 10/08/2018 22:31

If I wasn't going budget I would have gone P20 pro or oneplus. Very tempted

Skarossinkplungerridesagain · 10/08/2018 22:34

I have recently left apple after many years and went for the Huawei P20 Pro and couldn't be happier. It's awesome.

Peoplemaynoticeus · 10/08/2018 22:34

I've just switched after years of having iphones to a galaxy s9. I much prefer the Samsung.

Skarossinkplungerridesagain · 10/08/2018 22:35

And oh my god the Huawei smart watch is a thing of beauty.

TrippingTheVelvet · 10/08/2018 22:44

I also recommend the OnePlus6. Mine is amazing.

AgentJohnson · 11/08/2018 06:25

Had a Samsung for years and hated it, reluctantly got an iPhone and because of the Apple ecosystem it will be difficult to upgrade to anything else. Hell, the only reason I’m upgrading is because DD wants a mobile and has her eye on my iPhone 5S. I have an iPad and use that more than my phone and the ecosystem makes switching between the two effortless.

Take this opportunity to really analyse how you use your phone and go from there, most people don’t need the bells or the whistles. I’m lazy and backing up I’m very meh about and thus for me, the syncing with iCloud where I don’t have to do shit, is a lifesaver.

PositiveVibez · 11/08/2018 06:34

Another vote for Huawei here. I got the p9 lite and am due an upgrade. I'm very happy with this phone and wasn't going to bother, but reading about the p20 on here has got me thinking I might. It would be free on a contract.

I love the battery life on these phones. The fact you can use an SD card too.

I don't like the restrictiveness with the software on Apple. My husband was an apple devotee, but got frustrated in the end as downloading movies etc., Became an absolute pita. He now has the OnePlus, which he much prefers.

FlappyFeet · 11/08/2018 06:41

Stupid question. Is iMessage only for iPhone?

I like the sound of the Huawei but my DDs have iPhones and we always iMessage.

Skimbleskanks · 11/08/2018 06:44

Yes it is. I don't even think about changing because of iMessage, and also I like the control Apple give you over kids' phones.

Roussette · 11/08/2018 06:49

@TrippingTheVelvet Can I ask you about the OnePlus6? I have the 5 and I love it, no plans at the moment to change but wondered if the changes were big?

We have nothing Apple in this house at all, nor do my DCs... we are all android and prefer the flexibility of that.

iMessage is just Apple I think. We're WhatsAppers in this house, we do everything on it, including free calls when abroad.

Everything is backed up to my google account, that means changing phones is easy.

ElinorOliphantIsCompletelyFine · 11/08/2018 06:51

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but I think there might be now a service to help move everything over.

I was on iPhones for years but end of last year, I upgraded to a oneplus 5t as I really didnt want a massive contract this time. I moved all my photos to google photos; and uploaded all my stuff from icloud to google drive. It barely took any time at all. And my contract is now half what it would be if I'd had an iphone!

My oneplus 5t battery can last 2 days.

Roussette · 11/08/2018 06:56

Yes, my battery can last 2 days too with my 5t and I'm always pratting about on my phone!

My contract is cheap as chips but I am SIM only, I buy my phones seperately. I'm more or less unlimited (never gone over on anything) and I pay £13.99 a month. I can't believe what some people pay.

HeatherChloeDog · 11/08/2018 07:01

Is your current phone still working fine?

If so, instead of "upgrading" which means getting a new thing when you don't really need one, why not just keep your existing phone, and switch to a much cheaper Sim only contract?

The mobile phone companies make it sound like the "upgrade" is free, but you are paying for it, by remaining on an expensive tariff.

They don't publicise the Sim only tariffs as that doesn't get them the 'sale' of a new phone,

bert3400 · 11/08/2018 07:05

Huawei pro 20 . The camera is amazing . I've taken some shots that look like iits come from a super expensive camera

AutoFilled · 11/08/2018 07:17

I don’t understand any of the problems with photos and why would you need to clone the phone to get them off. Surely that’s what the cloud is for? All my phones and laptops are connected to google drive. All my phones photo are on google photos as a result. It’s 15GB free! I have got drop box too and also one drive for work stuff. Literally everything is available everywhere.

You must be not connecting your phone to iCloud. And if you are migrating to android, then just install google photos on it and let it start syncing.

Panicmode1 · 11/08/2018 07:31

I've converted my family to Huawei. Even DH who is a massive Apple fan (I'm not!) is seriously considering a P20 Pro when he upgrades. Battery life is brilliant, charges quickly, good memory, amazing cameras..... I'd highly recommend them.

Haint · 11/08/2018 07:36

If you have an android do you still get the message to authorise your kids app requests for their iPads? And if not how does that work 🤔
