AIBU?

To ask what phone you would upgrade too?

Just looking for opinions. Can upgrade next week and have no idea what to go for.

Have had an iPhone for the last 5 years....usually I'd just upgrade and get the iPhone 8 but I don't know if I fancy a change.

Only thing that's putting me off is if I were to get a Samsung....how to do I transfer all my photos/videos and music on to it? Or is that not even possible?

Anyone upgraded recently and can say what phone they love and what phone they were disappointed with?

Thank you kindly Smile

oh and when it came I plugged it in to my old phone and it downloaded 90% of the stuff (apps photos messages and contacts etc) straight over for me.
if you switch to android and like me struggle with the new keyboard you can download an app so it's the same as an iPhone one.

I switched from an iPhone 6s to a Samsung galaxy s8 and I would never go back to Apple now despite having been an apple lover when I got my 5s and originally liking my 6s.
However over time the 6s felt very flimsy and I had to have lots of screen replacements on it (1 when it had a protector on it). I dropped my 5s in the bath and it survived but the 6s had a small amount of water from a bottle in my bag get on it and it played up.
the s8 has so many more features than my I phone and you can tell it's been really well thought out. it's really customisable which I love and there's loads of free themes you can use which change the whole display not just the wallpaper, although you can set your own wallpaper with a theme on too.
a few weeks back a wedding a drink was knocked over and I grabbed my phone and cleaned it off. about 10 mins later a notification popped up that water had been detected in the charge port and to let it dry fully before charging it. the phone is fine but it's small things like that that continue to amaze me.
I saw an advert for Apple advertising facial recognition and my phone already does this despite not being the latest model. I just love it and can't recommend it enough.

P20 pro all the way. Better camera on it than my £600 digital camera. Amazing phone had it since a month after it was launched and still love it.

To answer the question, I'm waiting for the pixel 3 xl (or just the pixel 3 due to the notch, I'm on the fence).

Everyone mentioning Huawei phones, I hope you never need them to repair your phone, they are useless. I'll never own another Huawei device because of the shambles they made of the nexus 6p. Google didn't swap everyone's phones to a pixel xl for fun...

Just had a look... wow they're ridiculously expensive to buy from O2. We just got them straight from Oneplus then bought sim only sim cards.

Report
Dickybow321 · 11/08/2018 19:38

We bought them outright rather than get them on contract from O2 though... not sure how the price works out when you do it that way.

The dash charging is so good!

I came on here to see if anyone had mentioned Oneplus, only to see its turned into the Oneplus thread! Our whole household has these now. DP and I used to be iPhone users. We will never go back to iPhone. Oneplus gives you incredible specs for half the price of the top brands.

P20 pro is tempting me - but no wireless charging (sounds daft but when you've got into the habit of just slinging your phone on a charging pad it's nice) and no SD slot are putting me off a bit.

I'm still using my one plus 3 and my partner has the one plus 6. Both really good phones. My OnePlus 3 although considered old is still going strong! And blows other smartphones out the water! The one plus 6 is amazing. So responsive! Great battery, fantastic camera, beautiful looking. And cheap compared to other leading brands! One plus allllll the way!

Rousette I don't know how much the OnePlus6 differs from the 5 but I love it compared to my Samsung. It's so responsive and quick, I can just flick it to silent or loud, the screen is massive, the battery lasts all day even though I never have it out of my hand and charges in half an hour. I think it's hand down the best phone I've hand and only 20 quid a month which was half what I previously paying.

Grin Grin

that was a lesson in 'when not to post!'

Hiding you would love anything from Oneplus3 onwards! I passed my old 3 on to my DH (he's not a great mobile person!) and got the 5T and I absolutely love it. I marvel at it's battery life and speed! I also like how there isn't much preloaded onto it. iPhone would drive me potty on that, I hate clutter Grin

I have a Oneplus one!! Still works as good as brand new and when it doesn't I'll probably be amazed at the newer version.
Would never go back to iPhone now way to restrictive.

Haint I'm sorry I can't answer that, because my DCs are adult now. I'm sure someone will know.

Also I don't know what you pay if it's not a SIM only contract.

All in all, this post of mine is pretty useless Grin

Oh and are you all paying like £35 / 40 a month?

I’m well out of contract and looking to upgrade. I can’t afford to buy a handset outright but really don’t want to be paying £40 a month. Things seem to have got far more expensive since I last got s phone —in 2003–

If you have an android do you still get the message to authorise your kids app requests for their iPads? And if not how does that work 🤔

I've converted my family to Huawei. Even DH who is a massive Apple fan (I'm not!) is seriously considering a P20 Pro when he upgrades. Battery life is brilliant, charges quickly, good memory, amazing cameras..... I'd highly recommend them.

I don’t understand any of the problems with photos and why would you need to clone the phone to get them off. Surely that’s what the cloud is for? All my phones and laptops are connected to google drive. All my phones photo are on google photos as a result. It’s 15GB free! I have got drop box too and also one drive for work stuff. Literally everything is available everywhere.

You must be not connecting your phone to iCloud. And if you are migrating to android, then just install google photos on it and let it start syncing.

Is your current phone still working fine?

If so, instead of "upgrading" which means getting a new thing when you don't really need one, why not just keep your existing phone, and switch to a much cheaper Sim only contract?

The mobile phone companies make it sound like the "upgrade" is free, but you are paying for it, by remaining on an expensive tariff.

They don't publicise the Sim only tariffs as that doesn't get them the 'sale' of a new phone,

Yes, my battery can last 2 days too with my 5t and I'm always pratting about on my phone!

My contract is cheap as chips but I am SIM only, I buy my phones seperately. I'm more or less unlimited (never gone over on anything) and I pay £13.99 a month. I can't believe what some people pay.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but I think there might be now a service to help move everything over.

I was on iPhones for years but end of last year, I upgraded to a oneplus 5t as I really didnt want a massive contract this time. I moved all my photos to google photos; and uploaded all my stuff from icloud to google drive. It barely took any time at all. And my contract is now half what it would be if I'd had an iphone!

My oneplus 5t battery can last 2 days.
