The title says it all really.

AIBU to hate a whole county because of a previous very very traumatic time leaving the whole county covered in awful memories for me?

Want to relocate but lots of planning with 5 DC, schools and jobs etc.

My parents think I am BU

I hate a country. If it weren't for having to visit family, I'd never go back to it. I've not been back since my traumatic experiences there, but I know I'll have to one day.

I don't want to hate it, but I honestly sometimes wonder whether I have aspects of PTSD because of that period of time.

So I think it's possible to hate a whole country, and maybe to not have complete control over your feelings and why you can't cope with the idea of it.

I really dislike Leeds.
I wouldn't live there.

So YANBU

No.

I hate a whole country because I had a bad boyfriend from it.

We’re funny things humans! It’s no rational but we do it anyway!

I got so sick in Turkey once that I thought I was going to die there. I will never ever go there again.

Pickleypickles · 09/08/2018 14:12

Nope I hate a whole country because of one week there. Swear I wouldn't go back there if it was the only safe place in an apocalypse.

muddlingalong42 · 09/08/2018 14:12

I also hate a whole country due to bad experience living there win ex.
It’s a huge upheaval though with kids and schools so I guess it depends on the experience. Therapy may be a cheaper option to see if you can get past it? I’m a big fan of talking therapies

YANBU. You could have ptsd due to those memories and it’s ok to feel that way about a place, person or anything else that might be a trigger.

Wondering what’s so bad about Leeds 😬.

I feel this way about Manchester and most of Lancashire. Lived there for a while and had a truly terrible time so struggle to go back.

Faraway75 · 09/08/2018 14:18

I'm so sorry others have had traumatic experiences and feel the same, but it's also good to know I'm not alone.

I def have PTSD and have had some treatment, but I just can't shake these feelings off.

I had a traumatic experience in Nice and now couldn't visit anywhere on the French Riviera as a result. But I still like France generally
