To ask you about stevia - does anyone cook with it/buy products that contain it?

And would you do so when breastfeeding? I have recipes and there are some nice flavours of lower carb “ice cream”, but there are some very mixed results about stevia on dr google!

Gives me real digestive problems I'm afraid.

Stephisaur · 07/08/2018 22:32

I used to have it in my tea. Much better than normal sweetener and didn’t give me a headache.

Tastes a bit weird though.

Suzysleep · 07/08/2018 22:33

Nope, makes me feel sick as a dog. Ducking Jamie Oliver stomps off muttering

fruityb · 07/08/2018 22:34

It’s fucking vile!! That’s all I have to say about it. Leaves a real nasty taste behind.

CocoaGin70 · 07/08/2018 22:41

I was really excited to try it but bleugh it's beyond disgusting. Leaves a really nasty bitter aftertaste and I can taste it a mile off.

I'm T2 diabetic and see lots of low carb recipes but to be honest, most of them sound like scientific experiments rather than food. I just avoid any artificial as much as possible.

Severide08 · 07/08/2018 22:42

Tried the sweeteners, never again left a horrible ,vile aftertaste .

Hillarious · 07/08/2018 22:51

Would prefer to just reduce sweetness and have a small amount of sugar instead.

InspectorIkmen · 07/08/2018 22:54

Filthy stuff. Tastes worse than actual chemical sweeteners.

Try Total Sweet. Natural product with low GI and you can't tell the difference at all.

SteviaStephanie · 07/08/2018 23:11

Thanks all - almost universally unpopular then! It seems to be in all the low-carb/T2 recipes that I’ve found for various things, as well as that “Oppo” ice cream, but it’s so new that i wasn’t sure, and you guys are justifying that uncertainty.

I like it but I don’t have a lot of it - I’m low carb and don’t do a lot of replacement type baking.
Oppo is nice - especially the chocolate and hazelnut one.
Try it.

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/08/2018 23:14

It goes straight through me and tastes horrible.
