Builders parked trailer on my drive

Elderflower78 · 07/08/2018 10:29

From 8am this morning there has been a trailer full of crap on my driveway parked next to my car, so as soon as dh has left for work they have took his space.
The neighbours across from us are having their garden done up and getting work done. What pisses me off even more is the neighbours car is in his driveway which he could have moved to let the builder twats in.
I have parked my car so that they find it hard to get into the trailer.
I don't want to block them in incase they leave it there overnight, assuming they will be here all week.
I've beeped the horn and nobody has came and I've chapped the door but nobody answering.
I am fucking raging.

Our gardeners did this to our neighbours when we were having our garden redone. I came home in the middle of the day and found they'd put vans on the neighbours' drive. It was clearly the neighbours drive i.e. with gates, fences either side, right in front of their house When I asked what they thought they were doing they said that the neighbours didn't use their drive in the day so it wasn't a problem (actually not true as they work shifts and don't have a fixed pattern). I asked if the neighbours had told them that because they certainly hadn't told us it was fine to use it. The gardeners looked at me as if I was mad and said no but their cars weren't there so it wasn't a problem. I made them move it but they clearly thought I was being absurd. The next morning they did exactly the same thing again as they were expecting me to be out at work and not to notice. They were CF gardeners all round and were a complete nightmare for us too.

I think I'm more irritated than normal as last week was a very very tough week. I was shaking when I came in from asking them to move, I hate confrontation but I wasn't feeling up to having any confrontation after the awful week I've had. But it's done and I feel better now because it didn't end up in confrontation and it was all very polite.

Damned Straight it aint funny.

HolyMountain · 07/08/2018 11:39

It isn’t confrontation though, all you’re doing is asking that your request is followed through.

Anyway, you asked and they did as you asked, no confrontation.

@JacquesHammer Please start your own thread or turn this into your van-over-drive parking thread! X

Well done op! Bring brave and speaking to them has paid off!

meercat23 · 07/08/2018 11:46

bluelady Do you live near me? I could always do with an extra parking space and as you don't mind......

YeTalkShiteHen · 07/08/2018 11:47

Wtf does chapping the door mean....whats wrong with saying knocked or knocking !!!

What’s wrong with accepting that different places have different language and not being snooty about it? Hmm

Ilovemypantry · 07/08/2018 11:51

Glad it’s all sorted now OP without too much drama.
If you are feeling stressed already you can do without this kind of CFery💐

RedneckStumpy · 07/08/2018 11:52

I would hitch it up to my pickup and tow it onto the road and leave it there.

howabout · 07/08/2018 11:55

Well done. This happens to me a lot cos my private space is bigger than everyone else's and closer to the door. Standing your ground instantly and firmly is the only way and has never resulted in anything more than a "keep your hair on I'll only be 5 minutes". Problems arise if you let it go and people start to build all the excuses in their head for a sense of entitlement. Sorry you're having a rough week - I must be weird cos I quite like the opportunity to put my foot down with some CF for stress relief. Flowers

I'm guessing builder with vehicle dropped trailer off, on wrong drive inadvertently, then went off to another job. Builder or colleague arrives and gets told it's on the wrong drive, rings boss man with transport who comes back and moves it. Neighbour moves car to allow him to leave trailer in correct spot.

I would probably be seething too, but I fly off the handle without getting the facts, I am guilty of this I know.

ShumpaLumpa · 07/08/2018 12:15

Bluelady

It's not my brain that's addled. Listen to yourselves. The drive will still be there when the trailer's gone and presumably DH's car isn't expected back for another five or so hours. You're deranged, the lot of you.

My mum's drive was damaged by neighbours doing something similar. So the drive will still be there, but potentially in a worse condition.

EduCated · 07/08/2018 13:22

Glad it’s sorted, and if nothing else, I’m delighted to have learnt the phrase ‘chap the door’!

That really is a bit desperate, Bluelady. How do you know OP's husband's car isn't due back for another five hours? How do you know that other visitors won't need to park there? Why on earth should OP allow a total stranger to dump a trailer on her property when they haven't even had the basic courtesy to ask?

HaveSomeGrace · 07/08/2018 16:43

Bluelady seems to be having a bad day today everyone, what with weird comments and MN deleting some replies, so just ignore!

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 07/08/2018 16:47

Well done for shining up your spine and chapping their door OP.

I'm off to clap my dug.
