Is anyone else slightly traumatised by the recent spate of escaped snake stories?

I am terrified of snakes and the recent story about a man finding a snake in his bathroom in Exeter and then the boa constrictor on the East London street has put the fear of God into me. I fear I shall never sleep again...

So we are all here saying how scared we are of snakes and you post a photo of a snake?
Thanks for that.

eightfacesofthemoon · 06/08/2018 21:47

Seems like a fucking awesome way to get rid of skanky pigeons

user1457017537 · 06/08/2018 21:51

I’m petrified there was a fucker who used to walk his massive 12ft long snake in my local park. When I was little grass snakes were about 7” long not fuckin 4ft. My friend accidentally decapitated an adder in her shock and horror. She slammed the door on it!

AliTheMinx · 06/08/2018 21:54

user1457017537 - How did he walk a snake? On a lead?! I honestly think the world has gone mad...Shock

**Sugarls 9 fair play .Is it Royals you have .Do you find then picky eaters, mine can be fussy devil when he wants to be .

user1457017537 · 06/08/2018 21:57

He used to take it to the park and then let it slither about on the grass wherever it wanted to go. It was huge

eightfacesofthemoon · 06/08/2018 21:57

I’d rather encounter a snake than some fucking banned dog owned by some twats that don’t know how to train it.
At least a snake I can stamp on its head

GrumpyOldMare · 06/08/2018 21:58

Not having read anything about escaped snakes,I'm not in the least traumatised. If I had read anything,I'd hope the snakes were ok,I find them fascinating.

CSIblonde · 06/08/2018 21:59

It was Leytonstone in East London re the snake I saw eating a pigeon on the news. Nothing surprises me about that having lived there. It's an 'interesting' area....but not as grim as a lot of small London towns. You aren't at risk unless you drape it round yourself, they are quite timid otherwise.

Ummmmgogo · 06/08/2018 22:03

how fast are snakes? is it better to run away or stamp on it's head like @right suggested? I agree i would prefer an escaped snake over a dog but in an ideal world owners would keep snakes, dogs, cats, rabbits etc under lock and key in their own house where they can't scare other people.

eightfacesofthemoon · 06/08/2018 22:06

@Ummmmgogo
WTAF is a rabbit going to do to you
Snakes are generally scared of humans
Rabid dogs are not

MorningsEleven · 06/08/2018 22:06

is it better to run away or stamp on it's head

That's not a question you expect to ask every day.

eightfacesofthemoon · 06/08/2018 22:06

FYI
I hate pigeons more than snakes

Ummmmgogo · 06/08/2018 22:08

bite me, wee/poo on me, scratch me, give me fleas?

Ummmmgogo · 06/08/2018 22:08

i hate pigeons too!

eightfacesofthemoon · 06/08/2018 22:12

@Ummmmgogo
Snakes don’t do any of that
They eat pigeons and small animals
Large vicious dogs... just google it

AliTheMinx · 06/08/2018 22:12

Nope. Not a pigeon fan either and despise seagulls after one pooped IN MY EYE 2 weeks ago!!!

OP posts:
SabineUndine · 06/08/2018 22:16

I like snakes but I wouldn’t have fancied dealing with that one with the pigeon.

Ummmmgogo · 06/08/2018 22:16

@eight i agree with you! I've been agreeing the whole time; rabid dogs are the worst, but snakes, rabbits, cats, ferrets, pigeons and other creatures are all scary too.

jilldoyoulikeowls · 06/08/2018 22:16

Someone from Saltaire iirc (close to Bradford, up north) posted that their husband had been taking their DC for a walk through the park in the pram and someone had a HUGE snake just slithering around in the sun.

It was massive!!!

eightfacesofthemoon · 06/08/2018 22:19

@Ummmmgogo
Sorry!!!
I got the wrong end of the stick
It was the rabbit wot threw me

groundcontroltomontydon · 06/08/2018 22:30

Snakes are generally scared of humans
The one that climbed out the loo in Exeter was 8ft long and scared of no one

Wheretheresawill1 · 06/08/2018 22:37

There was a story recently where a woman woke and found a python curled up in bed with her. I would die on the spot

DiabolicalMess · 06/08/2018 22:51

@NewYearNewMe18 - why can't they be in the UK? Pit bulls do exist in the UK despite being a banned breed...

Severide08 · 06/08/2018 22:53

wheretheresawill1 was that the one in the DM .That was a Royal Python, poor thing was probably cold and looking for a hot spot. Royal's are referred to as Ball Pythons as they curl up into a ball .They are calm snakes it's rare to get one that isn't and they are totally harmless. If they wanted to they could give you a bite but certainly could not do you any real harm .
They fascinate me but I can fully understand how people are terrified.
