Husbands bought a hoover he knew I didn't like

Fully prepared to be told I'm BU, but need to hear opinions. My husband decided
We needed a new hoover today, he went off and a new top of the range cordless Dyson, to replace our old Dyson. I hate the old one and said to him I would never have bought a new one. He said he knew that.

Is it me, or is that really disrespectful Only a hoover I know, but I seem to compromise on everything we buy for the house, and he's just pissed me off.

This is the second thread that I am nominating to my purely fictional 'Insomniacs Classics' thread for complaints that nobody cares about but will help people get to sleep because they are so boring.

Verbena87 · 05/08/2018 22:21

Easy peasy: he chose a hoover he liked, he gets to do all the hoovering with it.

When he’s had enough he can buy you a Henry and you can enjoy hoovering with something that works properly! Wink

exWifebeginsat40 · 05/08/2018 22:21

if you wanted my Dyson you’d have to prise it from my cold, dead hands. it’s amazing.

so yes, YABU. sorry and all that.

ScattyCharly · 05/08/2018 22:22

a cordless dyson is only good for a quick vacuum of a spillage or a small area. If you use it on max power (which even at max is less than a proper vacuum so you will use it on max power) the battery lasts about 6 minutes.

Basically you need a proper vacuum and this cordless one is a quick fix for when it’s not necessary to get a big powerful vacuum out.

Charolais · 05/08/2018 22:23

It is comical how Brits call all vacuum cleaners ‘Hoovers' no matter the make.

liquidrevolution · 05/08/2018 22:25

Fully sympathise. My DH insisted on a large heavy old style Dyson like his parents had despite our house being smaller. I have bad back so can't use it. So I didn't moan just said a) he can pay for it and b) he can do all the hoovering.

I haven't hoovered in 8 years Wink

Rudgie47 · 05/08/2018 22:26

Get him to return it and get something you want Hoover wize.

spugzbunny · 05/08/2018 22:27

This is a proper champagne problem!

DeathlyPail · 05/08/2018 22:30

My DH bought a Dyson and wrapped it up for Christmas, he wasn’t stupid enough to give it to me. It was a family present but not what I would have chosen.

Longdistance · 05/08/2018 22:33

My dh chooses the hoovers as he is the one that does it. We have a cordless Dyson, it is very good Blush on the occasions I’ve used it. We have wooden floors, so I’ll sweep if need be, but dh hoovers 🤷🏼‍♀️

Fabricwitch · 05/08/2018 22:35

It depends on what he does now.
If he explains that he didn't realise the extent of your Dyson hate and offers to return it, then all is good.
If he refuses to return it, then I think refusing to use it is the way to go!

notdaddycool · 05/08/2018 22:39

I do almost all hovering in our house but wasn’t allowed to chose which one we bought. Was promised if I let her choose she’d use it. Been waiting 3 years.

SquashedToes · 05/08/2018 22:48

My Dh did exactly this too! I refuse to use it, 2 years on and I think I have used it perhaps 5 times. He has to do the hoovering (or replace it with a Henry :-))

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 05/08/2018 22:51

"It is comical how Brits call all vacuum cleaners ‘Hoovers' no matter the make."

Like how folk call any old hot tub a Jacuzzi. Hmm

londonrach · 05/08/2018 22:53

Yabu. I hate and i hate my dyson as do my parents. They not fit for their purpose. Dont use it. His dyson his problem

londonrach · 05/08/2018 22:54

Yanbu not yabu!

Penguin34 · 05/08/2018 22:58

YABU

Love the dyson cordless!
I'm arsey when it's not put back on charge but all that is forgotten when I get to whizz it about.

I thought it was just a honeymoon period but we've been together now for months and I still love it, I actually don't mind hoovering with the little gem.

I could do without the run down from
Husband about what came out of each room.

We have a cleaner every other week but they use their Henry as my other half wants to keep our little friend for us

pennycarbonara · 05/08/2018 23:07

Isn't it still possible to return it? If you do most of the hoovering that would be reasonable.

Beautifulblue · 05/08/2018 23:24

I have one, I think it's shit.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 06/08/2018 00:46

I got rid of my old hoover. Well, it was just collecting dust....

I'm here all week, folks!!

BlackeyedSusan · 06/08/2018 00:51

groan..

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 06/08/2018 00:56

It is comical how Brits call all vacuum cleaners ‘Hoovers' no matter the make.

I wonder how happy Hoover (the company) are about this. If it meant that your company name was synonymous with 'the only brand worth having' or at least upmarket and that translated directly into sales, you'd be chuffed - in the same way pretentious some people will always say "I'll give you a lift in the Range Rover", instead of just saying 'car'. (Not that you actually need to specify the kind of vehicle anyway - they're hardly likely to be offering you a lift to the airport riding pillion on their sit-on lawnmower, or giving you a 'backie' on their spacehopper).

However, if you asked any British person to name the best (or even a good) brand of 'hoover', I can't imagine any would even think of saying Hoover. To be honest, I doubt a lot of younger people would even know that there WAS a company called Hoover. They don't tend to advertise much any more (especially since the free flights debacle). To them, it would be like buying a tumble dryer from a company actually called 'Tumble Dryer'.

DiabolicalMess · 06/08/2018 01:01

I have a hoover tumble dryer and I like it very much. Do hoover still make... hoovers? I haven't seen one for a while and don't know anyone who has one.

LellyMcKelly · 06/08/2018 01:18

Well, I think it’s just lovely that your husband is going to be doing all the vacuuming for the next 5 years. Remind him to wash the filter every month (and make sure it’s fully dry before he puts it back it), and empty it straight into the outside bin because otherwise it makes a right mess indoors.

Darkbendis · 06/08/2018 01:31

My Hoover just died this afternoon, planning to buy a new vacuum cleaner this week. Looking for one that is not too pricey and can do the job, any recommandations, please? I've got cats.

Missing the point of the thread, I know... OP, it looks either your DH has volunteered to do the hoovering from now or he can return it to the shop himself.
