To be p'd off about our holiday rental?

Arrived at our holiday cottage today to discover one of the bedrooms is only accessible through another bedroom. No mention of this in the details when I booked. For various reasons this now means DH and I are in bunk beds having to share a room with DN!

AIBU to think that we should have been made aware of this before booking (especially when this layout really isn’t suitable for our group) and that a bedroom you can only get to through another bedroom is a bit weird?

Serial bedrooms are fairly common in older properties. Annoying that it doesn’t really suit your group, but if it’s family I’m not sure what the issue is with going through each other’s rooms anyway.

Twotabbycats · 04/08/2018 23:56

YANBU. Very poor that it wasn't mentioned in the description. Sounds like you and DH have definitely drawn the short straw too! Worth complaining immediately if it's through a company with lots of properties, in case there's a chance you could be moved to something more suitable.

Jozxyqk · 05/08/2018 00:00

Unacceptable. That wouldn't work for many people - some people simply can't access a bunk bed. It should have been clear so you could make an informed deciaion.

VayKayShun · 05/08/2018 00:00

Unfortunately it's just a set of two cottages owned by one family. The other cottage is teeny tiny and also occupied anyway.

Cardibach would you just walk into your parents or brothers room? They might be enjoying some private time, or be stark bollock naked? That seems weird to me

Jozxyqk

We definitely wouldn't have booked the place if we had known. We had loads to choose from as well and this place was quite expensive compared to lots of others

I'd be pissed off. I hate these 'surprises'

We stayed in a holiday rental at the height of summer with the windows of our bedroom nailed closed. I was pregnant and it was frankly, horrific.

Userplusnumbers · 05/08/2018 00:09

It's slightly annoying, but surely it was clear about the bunk beds? I'm not quite sure why you've ended up in them and sharing a room with DN?

cardibach · 05/08/2018 00:12

OP I wouldn’t want either of those experiences, no, but I’m failry sure they would be easy to avoid! I wouldn’t have have problem walking though a family member’s bedroom, no - and I don’t think that’s weird. Would you have a similar problem taking them a cup of tea in bed?
It’s not ideal, but it’s not enough to force me into a bunk bed!

VayKayShun · 05/08/2018 00:20

There is a room with 2 sets of bunk beds which was supposed to be for the 3 older children. Then each couple in one of the other rooms.

There was another set of bunk beds in one room which we did know about and were ok with but that room is the one off the other bedroom. We are up several times a night going to make DD a bottle so it's not fair for us to wake up whoever is in the other room by going in and out all the time (also not practical to knock).

Bro can't have that room as they would be too far from their kids who still wake screaming for mummy/daddy at night and my parents can't use bunk beds. So two youngest kids have to take that room with their parents in the adjoining room which means the only place left for us is the room with 2 x bunk beds

So can you explain why you are in bunk beds with your DN?

Can you post a pic of the details? It may or may not have stated that one bedroom was through another but it usually states what beds are in each room.

Where are DN’s parents?

VayKayShun · 05/08/2018 00:27

Her parents are in the room with the other room off it (where their two youngest are sleeping)

Also the two rooms with bunk beds have no storage whatsoever. Literally just the beds so we have nowhere to put any of our stuff!

Yes this is not okay. If bedrooms are linked in this way, it should be clear in the descriptions.

VayKayShun · 05/08/2018 07:08

After a crap nights sleep I'm even more annoyed as this room was 28 degrees in the night and doesn't have a window (shouldn't rooms have windows?) or fan so no way to cool it down

OP posts:
ButDoYouAvocado · 05/08/2018 07:11

No windows?! Thats awful.

lornathewizzard · 05/08/2018 07:19

Yeah that's pretty shit. Definitely worth a complaint I think

Angrybird345 · 05/08/2018 07:27

thats appalling, especially no window. Had be demanding a partial refund.

Branleuse · 05/08/2018 07:31

Tjats annoying. Shame there was no pic of the layout. Youll know to request one next time

VayKayShun · 05/08/2018 07:31

Turns out there is a window (it's internal so I just didn't think it would be there) so that's now open and at least it might be cooler tonight

AjasLipstick · 05/08/2018 07:31

Can't you make the bottles in your bedroom? Put the kettle in your room at night or use a thermos flask for the water.

cittigirl · 05/08/2018 07:32

Surely thats false advertising. I'm sure you can't legally describe it as a bedroom if it has no window. If be asking for a full refund and try and find something else. If they don't, report them. Take screen shots of everything they advertise.

Makemineboozefree · 05/08/2018 07:33

No windows and leads into another room? It sounds like you're sleeping in a hallway or on a landing rather than in a bedroom! Definitely complain.

VayKayShun · 05/08/2018 07:33

Branleuse

I definitely will - and hopefully people reading this might think to check before they book a house for multiple couples as well

OP posts:
TheConstantMoaner · 05/08/2018 07:34

I would want a refund. Sounds awful.
