To ask if you are a normal weight...

If you are a normal weight as in roughly within the range of healthy BMi what an average day of eating looks like?

I’ve just never been an average weight and I’ve just lost 7 stone but struggling to loose the last 4. I wonder how people who maintain a healthy bmi do it? Do you never have the odd piece of cake? Or chocolate? Do you generally eat well but indulge sparingly?

Bmi 21 here. I grew up on quite a healthy stuff- lots of grains (porridge/buckweat/barley) as a child and i happen to like stuff like that and feel no desire for Mcdonalds or other fast foods. Never did, i guess because as a child that stuff wasn’t around.
I rarely have ‘proper’ dinners, have portidge with various seeds added every morning, lunch is a meal deal from boots (salad, packet of crisps and a drink) and when i get in a whip something very quick for myself as kids usually will have eaten at childminders (could be a strip of salmon/cottage cheese/buckweat/toast with boursin cheese as i love it).
I do keep an eye on what i eat though and consciously avoid big meals/fatty overprocessed stuff. But i just dont crave them and feel much better not overeating.

I'm a normal weight but my calories are all over the place like I might eat not much one day in the week but I'll make up for it another day? I don't always have an appetite whereas some days I can eat a LOT!! Going back on my fib but I'll show you

Monday: one passion fruit yoghurt, two ryvita with two slices of cheese and a pack of hula hoops, dinner was veggie burger and sweet potato fries. Lots of swish but the day ended up at 1000cals but I didn't want anymore that particular day

Wednesday; yoghurt and granola, falafel and spinach wrap for lunch, handful of crisps. Dinner was bbq so I had lots of hallloumj two veggie sausages a veggie burger and three ciders

Today: special k bar for breakfast, dinner was a butternut squash wrap and crisps, dinner I had some mini cheese bites from McDonald's but I've snacked on crisps and a daim bar and I'll probably have a few g and t.

So my calorie allowance changes throughoutthe week but it must balance our somehow. I exercise to

meikyo · 05/08/2018 19:38

48kg and 152cm here. Middle aged. Have never weighed more than 54kg except when pregnant. Breakfast is usually toast and sliced cheese or boiled eggs. Lunch is a salad, soup or sandwich plus yogurt and a piece of fruit. Dinner often chilli and rice or chicken and veg or pasta. I don't eat large portions. I don't snack at all between meals. Have takeaways 5 or 6 times a year. Drink maybe 5 or 6 units of alcohol a week snd much prefer water to fizzy drinks. I eat chocolate very occasionally ( can take it or leave it), much prefer fruit based puddings if having desert. I do love ice cream and enjoy scones etc but not often. Do a lot of walking (endurance walking), plus yoga and gym. Also enjoy hill walking. I am petite so excess weight really shows.

I'm a normal weight, but trying to lose some, currently 8st13ish a 5ft5, had got up to more than 9 and a half. Unfortunately after years of dieting and slightly disordered eating, eating normally and relatively healthily takes a lot of work. I rarely naturally want healthy food over junk, but it does happen occasionally. I have days when I fall off the wagon (yesterday was one, period). Today I have eaten.

1 Nature valley cereal bar
Some salted peanuts
A protein bar
2 pieces of garlic bread (shouldn't have eaten that I know)
I am having some homemade Greek casserole for diner shortly.

Most days I have some fruit and veg. Know the cereal bar isn't ideal, but I struggle to get my head round eggs for breakfast, really dont like them, same with porridge. Also, I find protein bars handy cause they feel treat like but fill me up for loads longer cause of the protein.

I enjoy alcohol but haven't had any this weekend cause I had quite a lot at my friend's wedding on Thursday. Love sweet stuff and crisps but trying to eat them less often.

I normally walk a lot and have joined the gym but have struggled recently cause of the heat and school holidays. I think for a lot of women it is work in progress. Also interesting about having a set point. I suspect my set point is a higher weight than it was a few years ago. Would love to be 8st but I think 8st7 or even a bit over is probably more realistic for me.

Mummadeeze · 05/08/2018 20:26

I am 5’7’’ and weigh 13 stone. Am fed up of being this size (as I used to be thinner and none of my nice clothes fit). I feel like I am not eating much and I am exercising but the weight will not budge. I eat frozen berries and chocolate almond milk blended into a smoothie for breakfast, fish and vegetables or grains with hummus for lunch and no dinner (or sometimes another fruit smoothie). I used to eat a lot more than this and was a lot thinner. It is driving me mad, any advice?!

Thesearepearls · 05/08/2018 21:17

Im guessing it's your age

I am down to eating air and hot salmon flakes

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 05/08/2018 22:19

I have a BMI of around 21 and it is the heaviest I have ever been. My metabolism has changed since I was 30.
Breakfast - whole milk latte and cereal bar/banana/Bircher muesli/overnight oats/poached eggs on wholemeal toast

Lunch - sandwich/pasta with fruit

Snacks - chocolate every day nearly. Crisps/nuts maybe once or twice a week.

Evening meal - pasta/fish/meat.

We very infrequently have takeaways now and eat out much much less now we have young DC.

We don't drink fizzy drinks although occasionally have cordial.

We're not consciously healthy and I don't ever deprive myself of anything I want to eat really Confused I have been consistently putting weight on for the last few years though so may have to rethink my diet!!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 05/08/2018 22:43

Mumma

I was exactly the same in January . Am now 10 stone

I addressed it by vigorous dieting and a lot of exercising

I am mid 40s

I have to say if I ate and exercised like this in my 20s I would be tiny !

For some frames it’s pretty relentless to get it off and keep it off

Fortunately my appetite has adjusted and I like healthy food and exercise

But it does take quite a major shift

AndreaPorkin81 · 05/08/2018 23:27

I eat loads but I lift a lot of weights which really speeds up your metabolism.

Mummadeeze · 06/08/2018 06:51

Sounds like I need to up my exercise. Will try it. Thanks guys. (And it is my age, totally agree, am also mid forties).

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 06/08/2018 18:21

Andrea

When you say weights are you literally there with massive dumbbells 💪🏽? I want to start but very intimidated as it’s all pumped up men making noises !

MrsKoala · 06/08/2018 22:10

I like doing weights but i hate doing them at the gym. I really like the Les Mills (i think that's what it's called) body pump classes.

psychomath · 06/08/2018 22:24

Today I had:

Breakfast - croissant

Lunch - Tesco meal deal (pasta salad thingy, kettle chips, Oasis)

Dinner - bowl of pasta with tomato sauce and veg, kindly made for me by my friend as I was feeling rubbish, with a Gü mini cheesecake for pudding

Also I had three Asda cookies as a snack Blush That was a one-off though - I'm getting over a raging hangover sickness bug, so I didn't eat properly yesterday and was absolutely starving. Otherwise it was pretty typical.

frijolesandstuff · 06/08/2018 22:43

2 eggs on 1.5 white toast

2 matchboxes of cheddar & Beans on 2 white toast

4 squares dark chocolate, small bit watermelon.

Egg noodles and half a pack of prawns with half plate of salad.
2 choc digestives
Small glass white wine.

frijolesandstuff · 06/08/2018 22:52

LockedOutOfMN · 06/08/2018 23:08

frijolesandstuff But when do you eat frijoles? Your username is making me hungry.

Jenpop234 · 30/10/2019 08:06

I'm 5"8 10 stone and right in the middle of my healthy BMI.
I never eat breakfast. In the week I have a banana at break, a sandwich for lunch and a large dinner of pasta, risotto, fajitas or other normal family meals. No snacks.
At the weekend I'll have wine and chocolate and always a take away or eat out on a Saturday night. I always go for the be good 80% of the time rule. I never eat salads lol.

charm8ed · 30/10/2019 08:24

Breakfast- homemade fruit smoothie
Lunch-massive salad with protein and sometimes a whole meal wrap.
Dinner-protein with a lot of veg.
Evening-either a slice of cake, ice cream or about 6 Cadbury’s Heroes.
On the weekends the dinners may be an Indian takeaway one night and healthy the other night plus a couple of mini bottles of Prosecco.
I don’t drink tea, coffee or anything with caffeine.

SerenDippitty · 30/10/2019 08:49

Open mouthed reading some of these replies.

My BMI is 25.7. 5ft 2 and 10 stone.

Breakfast I slice of whole meal toast and marmite, half a banana.

Lunch skinny licious soup with dessert spoon fat free cottage cheese, 2 x ryvita with bertolli spread. Two dessert spoons mixed berries with same of fat free Greek yogurt, sprinkling of seeds.

Dinner fish cake and veg or home made pasta or rice based dish, or occasionally cheese soufflé (3 egg between 2 of us) and salad. or mushroom omelette.

Three or four glasses of wine a week. Afternoon snack nuts, evening 3 or 4 squares of 85 percent cocoa chocolate. It’s anti inflammatory and I have arthritis. Also hypothyroid. I do exercise a bit but find it hard to motivate myself.

TheHonestTruth100 · 31/10/2019 09:41

My BMI is 24.

  • I don't eat breakfast (bad habit I've anyways had)
  • I eat a cereal bar early morning at work
  • A tesco meal deal for lunch which is normally a lowish sugar drink, bacon and something sandwich and a chocolate bar or cereal bar
  • I then eat a ginormous portion for dinner. Like I've had grown men amazed at the amount of food on my plate and how I eat it all. It's normally heavily pasta or rice based but also with lots of cooked veg.
  • sometimes I eat an ice cream desert

Not healthy. But I'm also fairly active. I like to walk everywhere and go to yoga/spin classes.

TheHonestTruth100 · 31/10/2019 09:50

Just realised this is a 2018 zombie thread!

feelingverylazytoday · 31/10/2019 10:04

My BMI is 24, I've lost 5 stones over the last 3 years.
A typical days food - ( I will give a few options here)
1 slice wholemeal toast, spinach, poached egg/ cheese and tomato sandwich/beans on toast
Lunch - rice and beans or chick peas and veg/pasta with cheese and vegetables/cheesy potatoes with salad/lentil or chickpea stew/mackarel or salmon with potatoes and salad or vegetables.
Tea - another sandwich (egg, cheese or houmous) or toast and jam or marmalade
2 pieces of fruit
Snacks - varies, but I often fit some pringles and maybe a couple of little cakes in, and maybe some more toast and jam.
Drinks - coffee, lemon green tea, water and the odd bottle of wine or a couple of those premixed low cal G & Ts in cans.
I walk 10 miles most days (minimum of 5) and do the odd workout indoors. If I didn't I've have to cut down quite a bit.

OunceOfFlounce · 31/10/2019 13:02

Breakfast is porridge with whole milk, frozen berries and nuts. Maybe eggs on the weekend instead.

Lunch is usually rice, fish and veg or feta, quinoa and veg. Basically grains, protein, veg and a dressing. Today it's wholemeal pitta with an omelette (smoked salmon trimmings, spinach, cheddar, sweetcorn, beans, paprika).

Dinner it's pasta or something. Oven pizza every Friday. Then a few treats like kit kat, Idk wine gums, whatever I'm in the mood for. Finish with a piece of fruit or two.

Bmi 17.4 atm.

OunceOfFlounce · 31/10/2019 13:03

Ah, sorry, zombie! Pretty appropriate for Halloween though.

ChileConCarne · 31/10/2019 16:21

I’m 5ft 4 and 9 stone, so in the healthy range and always have been.
Breakfast is either 2 crumpets with butter, or bran flakes with milk, or peanut butter on one slice of toast + a cappuccino sachet. Lunch is a sandwich on brown bread (tuna mayo or cheese and pickle) - sometimes with half a pot of soup - or a Greek salad, or pasta pesto, or half a pot of hummus with one whole meal pita. Dinner is something home cooked - spaghetti Bol, stew, fish pie, curry etc. I have a strip of dark chocolate a day (either in the afternoon or at night) and one glass of red wine. We eat out/get an oven pizza about once a week.
I do an hour long dog walk a day + 2 runs a week.
I’ve never dieted (after living with a perpetually dieting mum) and I never eat foods which have been ‘engineered’ to be low fat (low fat mayo, low fat yoghurts etc). I eat the full fat version, and I guess without trying I also eat very sensible portions - it wouldn’t cross my mind to pig out and I hate feeling stuffed.
