To think it is just too fucking hot?

Can I just say as well that I’m fed up of people saying “well we have to put up with cold/rain for the rest of the year” arguments. That would be comparable if we had relentless freezing cold and relentless rain non stop for two months. But that doesn’t happen. There’s usually variety. This has just been ongoing with no respite.

Laiste · 04/08/2018 09:26

i love the heat

TheVanguardSix · 04/08/2018 09:28

I’m in Portugal... forget melting, I’ve dissolved. I was melting in London before we left but f*ck me, it was 40 here yesterday and it will climb to 42 today. I’m from California and I can ‘do’ desert lizard living at a push, but after 22 years in the UK, I am well out of practice. And there’s no AC where we’re staying. It’s like living in a clay oven.

operaha · 04/08/2018 09:28

My 18yo son is taking it as a personal insult that our house is roasting. No son, everyone's house is roasting, no-one remembers what it's like to be cool anymore...

UpstartCrow · 04/08/2018 09:30

This is why humans walked out of Africa and went North. It was just too bloody hot.

KateGrey · 04/08/2018 09:36

We are in the south east. My youngest is severely autistic and is miserable and waking up at night. I’m too hot to function and I’m fed up. I feel so sorry for the farmers. We’ve put off going to France this year as the temps are worse over there and it’ll be too much.

Scotstar · 04/08/2018 10:04

For the ones moaning that we are moaning, they must surely realise that we aren't used to this so of course it feels relentless to I am there is also the fact that we aren't on holiday so we are having to go about our normal business, it would be differs t if we were all able to just sit about and relax in this heat bit no can do
My wee boy is hardly sleeping at all.....its too light and too hot. He refuses to wear a sunhat and is ginger so i have to be super careful and cant always get out with him.it's a fucking nightmare.

I could cope with it a lot better if I wasn't so bloody sweaty, it's absolutely minging. How anyone could feel sexy or desirable in the heat is beyond me lol

DiggertyDamn · 04/08/2018 10:26

We live in Spain. It's 38, but by 9pm it goes down to 31.

30 is a beautiful dream.

Sarahlou63 · 04/08/2018 10:28

@TheVanguardSix

I'm also in Portugal. Fucking hot, isn't it??

bumblingbovine49 · 04/08/2018 10:31

We are on the isle of man for a holiday. I have been wearing a fleece sometimes
It has been cloudy and a bit rainy most of the week though it is clearer and warmer today, though still only about 20deg.

Not looking forward to going home tomorrow (in SE of England. Temp app says it will be 29 Deg there tomorrow. Sad

GKite · 04/08/2018 10:34

It IS hot
I'm 38 weeks pregnant and struggling, with two other children under the age of 5. Not looking forward to going into hospital where its even hotter 😪

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 04/08/2018 10:35

I’m in Portugal too. It was bearable yesterday for the most part at around 35 and then around 3.30 it was like someone switched the external oven on and it suddenly shot up to around 40 degrees. I’ve never felt heat like it, really intense.

It’s set to be slightly hotter today and we’re on a wild fire warning (slightly in land north of Lisbon).

That said, we have air con and a pool which was distinctly lacking when we were in the SE at 35 degrees last week!

liz70 · 04/08/2018 10:49

We holidayed on the north coast of Spain in the first two weeks in July, when the temperatures peaked at 24 or 25°, with averages of 21 - 22°, a cooling sea breeze, and regular overnight rain to keep it fresh. I've never been so glad that we live in Scotland so the school holidays are earlier, and that we chose to stay where we did. Other parts of Spain then were appproaching the mid to late thirties. And now I've heard 48°? Shock Ulp. Just horrible. Sad

pieceofpurplesky · 04/08/2018 10:50

I am in holiday - it's a glorious 26 and breezy (Canary Islands). Have a pool and a room with air con. Dreading going home to the heat - not something we usually say!

Leesa65 · 04/08/2018 10:52

Yep it is .

The money I am spending on electricity for the 3 fans (one each) at the moment is bad.

I feel for the elderly and people who are ill like my DF , his breathing is not great at the best of times and has pneumonia now too . Must be worse for them.

Leesa65 · 04/08/2018 10:54

And to OP .

I woke up at around 2.00 for some reason .
Checked the temperature and it was 28 celsius so yea, fan went on Grin

liz70 · 04/08/2018 10:55

Come and stay here in Glasgow if you can - daytime highs of 19°, bit of drizzle and a slight breeze. Going down to around 13° at night. Much more comfortable.

Justgivemesomepeace · 04/08/2018 10:57

I'm in Portugal too! It's bearable with a pool and no chores to do or work to go to.

I fill a hot water bottle with cold water when I'm too hot to sleep at home that really helps.

CesiraAndEnrico · 04/08/2018 11:02

Agreed

It's too fecking hot here in the Po Valley in even in a normal year. This is just silly.

And all my logs for not this winter but the next one have been dumped in the garden. We'll have to stack them in crazy temps because the risk of thunder is too high and if they get soaking wet they might rot when stacked.

I'm not sure I am going to make it through today without passing out. So much for La Bella Vita, more like La Very Sweaty Vita.

Leesa65 · 04/08/2018 11:03

That's great advise re the hot water bottle with cold water and put in freezer

Thank's for that the poster who does it . I shall try that.

sulflower · 04/08/2018 11:04

I'm in NE Scotland and it's been an amazing summer for us. Bit dreich today but still balmy. I love the heat but I would struggle with the temps some of you are getting down south, I don't envy you, I'd be moaning too.

Sarahlou63 · 04/08/2018 11:08

@LooksLikeImStuckHere

Do you live in Portugal? I'm up near Tomar - 44c forecast for later. Eek!

Tatiannatomasina · 04/08/2018 11:10

To aid sleep get a thin sheet and soak in cold water. Wring out as hard as you can, then get naked under said sheet. Instant relief.

KateGrey · 04/08/2018 11:17

I’m seriously considering coming to Scotland on holiday this month. Can’t face Europe at all. Scotland looks beautiful and the temperatures just add to the appeal. Anyone in Scotland that could recommend somewhere? Two autistic children who are much better outside rather than in.

Sallycinnamum · 04/08/2018 11:23

It's scorching in Majorca. It was 35 degrees at 8am this morning. We've been coming here for 20 years and it has got increasingly hotter in recent years. Last year it was 40 for 3 days and it was intolerable.

Luckily we have air con in the bedrooms so when you go for a wee at night it's like walking into an oven when you open the bedroom door. Not complaining about the air con though!
