But have you seen how hot it is in Portugal and Spain? Aren't they predicting 48?!

dinodiva · 04/08/2018 05:32

Yep, so over it now. Have a nearly 12 week old and am constantly sweaty and sticky from BFing. 3 year old is also sweaty and irritable from the heat.

Only positive I can see is that it’s so hot I don’t really want to eat much so the baby weight is disappearing!

MaMaMaBelle · 04/08/2018 05:46

Cool and drizzly where I am, had my heating on for a while yesterday. No heatwave for us in NW Scotland.
If you could just send some heat & sun up here that would be great!

I do sympathise with you all though, it sounds far too hot & I would be hating it too.

INeedMoreCakeInMyLife · 04/08/2018 05:59

Yep. My thermomstat in bedroom is saying 31. No point opening windows as the curtains and blinds will block any breeze.. If they are left open it's ridiculously bright.
Baby woke at 3am as was so hot.. And still awake now.
As miserable as it sounds. Im Staying in today as too hot for baby outside, makes her grumpy

The80sweregreat · 04/08/2018 06:00

yep! Too hot

user1471426142 · 04/08/2018 06:12

My car temperature reader said it was 35c outside yesterday. Every time I needed to leave the house my toddler went to the front door, took one step and refused to move saying ‘I don’t like it, too hot’. I had to coerce her our with the promise of aircon in the car. She was coping quite well a few weeks ago but is now jaded and fed up like the rest of us! I’m ready for a drop. I’m loving the sun but 26 would be nice rather than 30 plus.

EscapistTendencies · 04/08/2018 06:20

I am in Spain, never felt heat like it, 30c at 1am, nearer 40c during the day, the sea is like a hot bath, I am melting. First and last time I've been here in August.

Cheesymonster · 04/08/2018 07:41

Could not sleep at all last night. Worried about my upcoming holiday in Spain.

hammeringinmyhead · 04/08/2018 08:04

Yup. 6 months pregnant and sweating out everything I drink faster than I can down pints of water.

Frosty6611 · 04/08/2018 08:06

I had a terrible sleep. The humidity levels were at 95% here during the night. Thank god next weekend looks cooler with some rain due

laurG · 04/08/2018 08:07

Yes we have a newborn. It’s a nightmare.

InTheLoop90 · 04/08/2018 08:17

Yes! I think we all just laid on top of our beds it was so hot

ForalltheSaints · 04/08/2018 08:21

Its not too hot. It is the humidity that is high and wind/breeze low.

IceCreamFace · 04/08/2018 08:23

YANBU I'm not going to stop moaning about the heat until it cools the fuck down!

Crunchymum · 04/08/2018 08:27

26.7 here at the moment. Way too hot for 8.30am!!!

I have 2 fractious young children and a tube fed 6 month old (who has to have her hands covered overnight so she doesn't pull the tube out!!). I'm not moaning for the sake of moaning, I am genuinely fed up and stressed out by the weather.

I haven't slept properly in weeks, kids aren't sleeping well, baby is suffering.

I hope Spain and Portugal cope ok with the weather they are predicted Shock

Not everywhere it’s not 😡. It’s been 19 degrees and drizzly all week up here in the north and it’s shit.

Crunchymum · 04/08/2018 08:31

I'm ridiculously excited for Weds / Thurs

I'm actually hoping it lasts a bit longer...we have a holiday in the Highlands (So not liking the posters from Scotland saying it's cold...thought we might have had one dry warm year up there...Will just have to turn up the heat in the hot tub!) coming up, & then camping over bank hol weekend.
However, I am fed up of very little sleep, lack of energy & eating so many ice lollies I've put weight on! But dry weather for the rest of the summer hols makes it easier to entertain the kids. I'm in Newcastle so not as hot as lots of you have had it....we are more used to cold though!

bakingdemon · 04/08/2018 08:47

Any tips from anyone on how to cool down at night? Have tried putting socks in the freezer but they warm up pretty quickly. Effects of a cold shower before bed only last so long. Fan is too noisy to have on all night. Aaaarrrrrggggghhhhh

Spudlet · 04/08/2018 08:48

DS and I got stuck in roadworks traffic yesterday afternoon, and the dashboard was reading 37 degrees. And I didn't dare have the air con running too much as I was worried about the car overheating.

It was rather warm 😓

I think it's supposed to be a little cooler around us next week - mid-twenties or so, which is lovely. Above 30 is too much for me.

Frosty6611 · 04/08/2018 08:52

@baking fill a hot water bottle with cold water and put it in the freezer. Having it in bed with me has really helped (although forgot to do it last night and had a terrible sleep)

Lockheart · 04/08/2018 09:03

I sleep under a damp sheet or duvet cover. Just put one on a quick wash a couple of hours before bed, it should be lightly damp, not dripping wet. It’s bloody marvellous in this heat and it’s bone dry by morning. Everyone says it’s weird in the UK but it’s quite common in Egypt and Morocco.

And for those saying “stop moaning” about the heat - are you really so oblivious to the natural world that you can’t see how devastating this is for wildlife and farmers? My parents have no fruit - there were no plums this year and what apples there are are tiny. Animals are dying from heat exhaustion. Berries are cropping too early and there will be less food for wildlife come autumn. Farmers are running out of water. They are having to use increasingly scarce food reserves which should be for winter because there is no grass. Crops are failing. We produce about half of our own food in this country and at the moment that’s looking increasingly precarious because of the weather.

But as long as you get to feel like you’re on holiday that’s all that matters Hmm

sacredgeometry · 04/08/2018 09:09

Its 16 degrees with a light breeze today in The highlands. After a visit to London recently its bliss

Blerg · 04/08/2018 09:12

It’s awful, I’m just enduring and waiting for Autumn. I don’t cope well in heat and wait it out every year but this time feels never ending. I much prefer the cold because there is more you can do to warm up.

Branleuse · 04/08/2018 09:19

Im a summer lover usually, but i struggle at 30plus and its so damn humid and i wish id invested in a pool like i considered in earlier summer.
