Raw chorizo? I turned round and she was saying “oh look she likes it!” And my baby is sat there licking and chewing this chorizo?

Hoping it won’t make her poorly?

I’m very relaxed about food (baby DS 8mths eats what we do) and I weaned early (reflux) BUT YANBU!!
That is absolutely utter stupidity, not to mention dangerous-baby could have choked. I’d be livid.

Marriedwithchildren5 · 03/08/2018 18:48

At four months I doubt she ate much of it. Maybe an interesting nappy at worse.

caseoftheexfiles · 03/08/2018 18:49

Doubt it would make her poorly but it’s pretty salty!

tealandteal · 03/08/2018 18:50

I am pretty relaxed but I would tell a friend off for this, she shouldn't be feeding your baby anything without your permission. She has no idea of any intolerances or allergies, aside from the choking risk or the fact your baby is only 4 months old!

GlassSuppers · 03/08/2018 18:51

I doubt it will make her poorly as she won't have been able to eat much of it with so little teeth.

However, it's a massive choking risk!!

I'd be really angry. YANBU

LowKeyKoala · 03/08/2018 18:51

Yeah I’m fairly ok with what food she has, also weaning early due to reflux. But I’m talking any fruit or veg, and supervised by me or DH!

OP posts:
Ubicorn · 03/08/2018 18:52

Was it definitely raw or cured and ready to eat?

LowKeyKoala · 03/08/2018 18:52

It’s pretty salty stuff too isn’t it? I’m assuming there’s no risk from it being uncooked? I’ve not really looked into it

OP posts:
LowKeyKoala · 03/08/2018 18:53

Oh sorry yeah cured

It won't. At 4 months they'll lick anything but they still have that tongue thrust reflex which means anything you actually put in their mouth that isn't a nipple or a bottle just gets pushed straight out. I'm sure it won't have done her any harm. That said I would be furious with anyone who fed my daughter anything without asking me first. (I had to lunge at one friend who wanted to give her Pimms fruit when she was 5 months and had had nothing but milk. Who gives a baby Pimms fruit?)

LowKeyKoala · 03/08/2018 18:55

OMG pimms fruit Shock

Tell you friend never to feed her anything in future. Is she often irresponsible and thoughtless?

User12879923378 · 03/08/2018 18:56

I know, right?

LowKeyKoala · 03/08/2018 19:08

I’m not making any comparison but I wouldn’t really be beat pleased if she fed my dog chorizo let alone my baby haha!

OP posts:
Happyhippy45 · 03/08/2018 19:32

That's pretty stupid behaviour from your friend. Tell her she was irresponsible and not to feed her again!

My dh friends gf at our house years ago was dipping her finger in her wine and letting my 8 month old dd suck it off. We had heard the gf laughing and giggling and just assumed she was keeping dd entertained in her baby walker. Then she turned around and told everybody "Look at this! She likes it!"
We were not amused.

LowKeyKoala · 03/08/2018 19:49

Happy! No! That’s awful!

Happyhippy45 · 03/08/2018 22:10

@LowKeyKoala
Yeah, pretty stupid behaviour from an adult. Fortunately I don't think she'd managed to get dd to have too much of it as there wasn't any ill effects from it.
We were one of the first in our group of friends to have kids, so they were all pretty clueless about babies......a good amount of our friends that night thought it was funny.

IceCreamFace · 03/08/2018 22:12

Bloody hell! I'm assuming she meant no harm but couldn't she have had a tiny scrap of common sense?!

LowKeyKoala · 04/08/2018 00:38

Ooof Ape that is actually horrific isn’t it! Some people just have no common sense even if they mean no harm...

OP posts:
garethsouthgatesmrs · 04/08/2018 00:43

why was she feeding your 4 month old anything? Was the baby lying there in her arms or is she a very early sitter? I cant get my head around this. I would be furious!!! Assuming you have decided to wean early it's surely basic that at this age its puree and mashed up only.

tell her you don't want her feeding your baby anymore and dont leave them alone. This could have caused quite a serious choking incident. apehouse that is heartbreaking.

ManyCrisps · 04/08/2018 00:51

I don’t think there’s anything bad about a baby eating chorizo surely Spanish babies would eat chorizo.

ASimpleLampoon · 04/08/2018 02:52

@ManyCrisps Spanish babies of 4 months old would not eat chorizo.

Young children should not eat it, I was brought up on the stuff being of Spanish heritage, but I didn't eat it while pregnant.

4 months old should not be eating anything that solid, the baby could have choked.

wowfudge · 04/08/2018 03:19

Why not while you were pregnant Lampoon?

LowKeyKoala · 09/08/2018 15:36

Gareth this is the worst part she was lying down...
