Middle lane hoggers - MOVE THE FUCK OVER!!!

Just that.

Travelled 15 miles on the M1 this morning and for many of those miles NOT A SINGLE VEHICLE in the inside lane!

I'm not a road hog (I drive a small banger) but for fucks sake pootling along at 65mph in a presumably capable car/van in the middle lane with nothing to your left and MILES of traffic behind you is selfish and plain ignorant at best, dangerous at worst.

Raaaaaarrrrrr!!!!!

Next mod on my car will be a pneumatic pole that gently pushes them into the correct lane.

TittyGolightly · 03/08/2018 20:42

In the meantime I just upload all the dash cam footage of the hoggers to the police.

Ginorchoc · 03/08/2018 21:14

Barbarianmum if you are being flashed plural then you ought to consider your driving. There must be reasons for it.

NalderAndCollier · 03/08/2018 21:51

Well they must have been lost if they were on the M1 because the Middle Lane Hoggers convention was being held today on the M3 junctions 4 - 6.

Weepingangels · 04/08/2018 07:15

I have not seen this for so long a stretch but i have for a junction length. I pulled on and though everyone was just considerate and had just moved over. Not so, i did wonder why but overtook them all since 60mph was their speed and no reasons. Very odd.

I did see one person streak up undertaking us all in the middle lane once, who was on his phone and must have not paid attention. That lane was red X closed and the motorway was a smart motorway...

If people speed they speed. I vary between the lanes either side of middle lane and stick to 70. I move over if im still overtaking but someone wants past me and then back to start when im done manoeuvring.

Some people pootle along and block the lanes. I drive and often see at least one who is in middle with nothing to their left. No clue why. Worst though are the lane switchers who under and overtake when there is congestion. They make all other drivers brake and slow traffic. I think many people dont do motorway lessons so dont have a clue. Somehow the theory is lost.

I drive all over at various times of the day and night.

I've driven up the M6 at 3am and seen cars sitting in the middle lane, despite the rest of the motorway being virtually empty.

I routinely see middle lane hoggers being undertaken by people and even then they still refuse to move over.

I quite enjoy lane changing and overtaking. As a PP says, it keeps you alert and makes the drive more interesting. It also remind you to keep watching the traffic around you, judging speed and distance and anticipating what other traffic will do.

In terms of being "sandwiched" between lorries - it's not an issue if you are driving correctly. If you are travelling faster than the lorries then you should be in the middle or outside lanes. If there is not enough space to safely move back into the left lane and maintain stopping distances, then you should remain in the middle (or outside) lane. However if there is a good sized gap then you should move over. A useful rule of thumb is if it will take you longer than 15 seconds to reach the next vehicle in front, then you should pull in behind them and only move out to overtake when you reach them.

I like the slow lane, was made for me 😂

hula008 · 04/08/2018 08:59

This happened to me yesterday on the M1!! 4 lanes and the inside 2 lanes were full of cars doing 50-60mph and 2 outside ones were empty. Was just after roadworks. After about 5 miles I just sat in lane 1 with a lane between me and all other cars for another few miles! I see middle lane hogging everyday but have never seen anything like that in my life before!

marvellousnightforamooncup · 04/08/2018 09:05

I did ten hours on the M5 and M6 yesterday. I could have started this thread. FFS the inside lane was empty except in the roadworks sections. Car upon car doing 65 tailgating each other in the middle lane. I was in the inside lane and could've undertaken about 15 cars in one go.

WhirlwindHugs · 04/08/2018 09:07

I find UNDER takers much more annoying than middle lane hoggers.

It's not difficult usually to safely overtake a middle lane hogger.

But when I have overtaken and am waiting for a safe gap to go back into the slower lane and get undertaken... Whenever I do a fairly long journey (1hr+ on the motorway). Fucking hell. Its so bloody dangerous, a car suddenly appearing in the space I'm clearly moving into because it took more than 30 seconds for there to be a safe moment to move back over.

So to the people obsessed with hoggers considering undertaking... Give them more than 30 flipping seconds and if they really aren't going to move OVER take like you are supposed to!

Batfurger · 04/08/2018 09:09

Motorcyclists are a bit of a menace on my commute. If I'm doing 80 & you're doing 100, no I'm not going to slow down & stop overtaking so you can get past.

And when you undertake me (immediately after I've finished overtaking and have my indicator on to pull over) don't be a massive Cunt & slam your brakes on in front of me.

Your life expectancy is very short and tbh, I don't care you selfish arsehole.

But mostly it's the middle lane twats.

TittyGolightly · 04/08/2018 09:16

This happened to me yesterday on the M1!! 4 lanes and the inside 2 lanes were full of cars doing 50-60mph and 2 outside ones were empty.

That would be fine. The inside lane is the one furthest to the left and the outside lane is the one furthest to the right.

Actually new rules for HGVs (over 7.5 tonnes) are maximum speed limit 60 mph.

Sirzy · 04/08/2018 12:50

Have you got a link to that user?
