Middle lane hoggers - MOVE THE FUCK OVER!!!

Just that.

Travelled 15 miles on the M1 this morning and for many of those miles NOT A SINGLE VEHICLE in the inside lane!

I'm not a road hog (I drive a small banger) but for fucks sake pootling along at 65mph in a presumably capable car/van in the middle lane with nothing to your left and MILES of traffic behind you is selfish and plain ignorant at best, dangerous at worst.

Raaaaaarrrrrr!!!!!

If the choice is doing 50 in the inside lane sanwiched bw 2 lorries or doing 70 in the middle lane I'll choose the middle lane every time. If you want to do 80, go get the law changed.

BarbarianMum · 03/08/2018 15:02

sandwiched

arethereanyleftatall · 03/08/2018 15:15

@BarbarianMum
If you do drive like that, you should accept that if ever you're stuck in traffic which is due solely to weight of traffic, rather than an accident, then it is your driving, and other middle lane drivers, who have caused this.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 03/08/2018 15:15

If you are doing that then Barbarian you are not middle lane hogging, you are overtaking.

I see plenty of people driving in the middle lane when there is nothing at all in the inside lane for a good half a mile. That is what I understood the OP to be complaining about.

Sirzy · 03/08/2018 15:17

I don’t see what confuses people so much. If your overtaking Someone fine, otherwise move back in!

NotUmbongoUnchained · 03/08/2018 15:26

The worst are the people that pull out in front of you to overtake the person in front of them, but they’re not going fast enough so actually just drive alongside the other car for 10 fucking minutes to the point where you’re about to rip your steering wheel off and wang it though the back of their car and hopefully kill them with it.

SlartiAardvark · 03/08/2018 15:30

Can't any of you people read??

The OP was about people sitting in the middle lane when the inside one is empty.

Just That.

If you do it - stop, there's no reason on earth and you're a twat!

If you don't do it - hurrah!

It doesn't get much simpler.....

Teateaandmoretea · 03/08/2018 15:35

If people aren't confident enough to sit in the inside lane with the lorries they either need to go faster or get off the fecking motorway.

But you can't always go faster can you? That's the point.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 03/08/2018 15:37

No that's not the point tea.

Teateaandmoretea · 03/08/2018 15:40

TheOPwas about people sitting in the middle lane when the inside one is empty.

Which is pretty daft. But also it is pretty uncommon that someone will do this with a queue up the outside if the motorway is quiet. So just overtake in the righthand lane and get over it.

I don't understand the hysteria and number of threads on this in comparison to the tailgaters, they are the dangerous ones.

Teateaandmoretea · 03/08/2018 15:41

So what's coming are you saying that if all three lanes are going at the same speed everyone should squash into one, well apart from you I guess so you can get past at 80?

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 03/08/2018 15:44

What are you on about? And you claim other people don't know how motorways work.

SlartiAardvark · 03/08/2018 15:44

No.

If there's nothing in front of you and you can do so safely pull over into the next lane.

It's not hard!!!

Sirzy · 03/08/2018 15:45

It’s not uncommon st all, I drive the same stretch on the m6 and least three times a week and will encounter a lane hogger in at least one of those trips generally.

My partner is a hgv driver so spends a lot of time on the motorway and has come across lots of drivers who insist on staying in the middle lane no matter what!

Teateaandmoretea · 03/08/2018 15:46

If there's nothing in front of youand you can do so safelypull over into the 4next lane.

That's a scenario I can only dream of

Teateaandmoretea · 03/08/2018 15:47

Lorries are an absolute and utter nightmare but that's another thread.....

SlartiAardvark · 03/08/2018 15:48

But you can't always go faster can you? That's the point.

One of the points is that it's very rare that the inside lane is wall to wall lorries - unless the whole motorway is jammed.

So if you're going to be sat in a lane with nothing to your left for 30-40 seconds, pull in. Then pull out again when you approach the big, scary lorry in front.

It's actually quite stimulating & keeps you alert & aware of what's around you - unlike people that zone out & sit in the middle lane at the same speed for 20 miles...

Teateaandmoretea · 03/08/2018 15:49

I disagree Slarti no one drives like that on a busy motorway, you'd just get stuck with lorries overtaking you boxed in.

SlartiAardvark · 03/08/2018 15:49

That's a scenario I can only dream of

I call bullshit.

I've been driving up & down these motorways for over 20 years & manage to do it

If you can't, then get off the fucking road - you're a menace.

SlartiAardvark · 03/08/2018 15:50

I disagree Slarti no one drives like that on a busy motorway, you'd just get stuck with lorries overtaking you boxed in.

I refer you to my previous statement -

get off the fucking road - you're a menace.

Teateaandmoretea · 03/08/2018 15:50

If you say so Biscuit.

Teateaandmoretea · 03/08/2018 15:51

It's the people who start swearing and getting aggressive who are a menace in my experience .......

SlartiAardvark · 03/08/2018 15:54

See, you've bored me now.

Can't reason with stupid.

See ya...

RunsforCake14 · 03/08/2018 15:57

I drove along a large section of the M6 at 6am on Christmas Day a couple of years ago.
There were barely any cars to be seen at all. And yet I still came across some that were driving in the middle lane.
Absolutely no reason for them to do this. Even when I overtook them and moved back into the inside lane, they carried on.
I suppose they weren't causing any traffic problems. Just looked like idiots.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 03/08/2018 15:57

Yes, people are getting frustrated with you because you're being stupid. And you keep referring to 'busy motorways' when nothing the OP has said implies that it was busy.

You overtake then pull in if safe to do so when you have completed the overtake. If you are only going to be pulled in for a few seconds then yes there would be no point, but if it's going to be longer then you shouldn't hog the lane. Just because you've gone into the inside lane doesn't mean you change your speed, so no lorries would be overtaking you (assuming you're driving at 70mph) and you wouldn't be boxed in. Driving properly does require paying attention and forward planning. Are these things you have a problem with?
