Metoodear · 03/08/2018 10:56

Just that people think it’s the location or the cost you could literally have me at a 5 star hotel and it would not matter

I hate the heat
The packing
My husband swearing while he puts the tent up
The drive over
The drive back
The heat i it’s 38 here and I have been sick because twice it’s so hot
I just don’t enjoy going on holiday never have

Are you camping? I agree I would hate that. Not my idea of a holiday at all.

I absolutely love holidays though. I only do my own packing - not much drama in that, It's just throwing clothes and toiletries into a suitcase.

Taxi to and from airport 25 mins each way.

No swearing husband thank you very much.

I love the heat but if you don't like it choose a colder destination.

What would you dislike about being in a 5 * hotel? Not being goady - we are all different. Just interested about what you wouldn't like about it, unless you don't like being away from home full stop?

TicketyBoo83 · 03/08/2018 11:03

🙋🏻‍♀️ Me! I fucking hate going on holiday. I find it totally stressful getting organised, packed etc and once I’m there I just wish I was home again!

Luckily my DH is the same and we’ve taken to having nice ‘staycations’ together.

alittlequinnie · 03/08/2018 11:03

I don't like holidays either.

I HATE the packing, I hate the travelling - I don't mind the car if it is just me and husband but I recently did a 6 hour journey in the back of a car in the rain with a toddler!

Most of all I struggle with sleep - my husband and I don't share a bed or room at home but it always seems to expensive to try to achieve this on holiday so I end up with no sleep which makes me grumpy.

I actually think though that the problem is lack of budget - if I were to fly somewhere first class and stay in 5 star accomadation in my own room I would probably enjoy it...

... although I am celiac so trying to find things to eat is impossible too!

I remember one year we went on holiday to Majorca - it rained every day and the room was horrible and we were delayed by hours and hours - we spent about a grand all in and the whole way home I kept thinking - I could have had the hallway replastered for that!

I know I am in a minority though - I like being off work - just not going "away"!

alittlequinnie · 03/08/2018 11:04

@TicketyBoo83 - you lucky thing - I am trying to get my husband into this way of thinking but not succeeding!

Butterflykissess · 03/08/2018 11:05

I will go for you instead if you want?! I havent had a holiday in 8 years Shock

HRTpatch · 03/08/2018 11:06

I like holidays now there are just the two of us. I would never have gone camping...just not my thing.

araiwa · 03/08/2018 11:07

I dont do things i hate doing.

Oysterbabe · 03/08/2018 11:08

I loved them pre-kids, our honeymoon in Barbados particularly. Now not so much. I feel unreasonably anxious about the kids being safe and having everything they need.

SomeBozo · 03/08/2018 11:09

Love holidays! Just us 2 now, in a nice hotel, no cleaning, no cooking, no washing, no pets to look after, no vaccuming, just eat, drink, swim, sleep, BLISS Grin

In fact we looking to book another holiday for a bit of winter sun (already had our main 2 week hol in June)

Lindalee3 · 03/08/2018 11:12

@metoodear

No I don't hate going on holiday at all. I love it - inland OR abroad. I find it exciting right from when we start packing, I love the journey, and I love the actual trip.

Why go if you hate it so much?! Confused

As a pp said, why would you do something you hate doing?

Bizarre. Confused

lolaflores · 03/08/2018 11:21

Over the years I have grown to detest airports and travelling. I feel no eager anticipation of pack g and all the upheaval that comes with it. There is very little peace to be had in holidays and a peculiar kind of boredom that is like a dead weight. My DH feels obliged to go on a sun holiday and this year I am tempted to opt out. Might be too late though. Certainly not going next year

happypoobum · 03/08/2018 11:25

lola It sounds like your holidays are boring for you? I wouldn't like that either. Is there something you would like to do?

I don't go on "lie on a sunbed" holidays. My holidays are about cathedrals, palaces, museums, lakes, piazzas and culture. Would something like that interest you? I still sit around reading quite a lot though Wink

I have a friend who goes on yoga holidays and loves that. Another goes on fitness/wellness holidays.

Horses for courses.

TrickyKid · 03/08/2018 11:28

Too hot for camping I agree. Otherwise once we're packed and there I love it. We only go in the UK so no flights or baggage to stress about. Just load the car up and two hours later we're there.

foxtiger · 03/08/2018 11:35

I don't go on holiday to hot places - well, not intentionally anyway. A couple of times I've been in Central Europe when it was about 30 and I just hopped from patch of shade to patch of shade, and spent a lot of time in museums, or under big umbrellas at cafés. I would never go anywhere where I thought it was going to be more than 30. I kind of hate the travelling aspect of most holidays though - I'm not frightened of flying as such, but I think I'm a bit frightened of something going wrong with the documents, or big delays.

Camping is one time when I do get a bit frustrated, because DH won't properly enter into the spirit of it. He'd never survive a whole week of camping, but if we do it for a night or two, he doesn't want to cook anything over a barbecue or Camping Gaz, he just brings stuff we can eat cold (and it's never very inspiring). Breakfast bars for breakfast, that sort of thing. I could do it regardless but it kind of sucks the joy out of it when one person would clearly rather just be eating rolls out of a cool box.

Kingkiller · 03/08/2018 11:44

Well the heat doesn't have to be a problem - go somewhere that's not hot, or go at a different time of year.

Packing is a bit of a pain, but it's only particularly bad for camping imo.

Do you have dc? We are off on holiday tomorrow. I decided to delegate gave each dc a list and they've packed all their own stuff. If they forget something, tough luck!

Storm4star · 03/08/2018 11:46

I also hate the heat but either don’t holiday in hot places or go at cooler times of the year. I have been on at least one holiday every year for years now but can’t remember the last time I had a “summer” holiday. It’s just not my thing.

LighthouseSouth · 03/08/2018 11:49

I hate going on holiday too

quite a few posters do seem to hate it but go because of DC or DH.

I hate it so much I didn't join. Everyone managed fine!

Clionba · 03/08/2018 11:50

Camping sounds like my idea of hell, but each to their own. The thing is to find a break that you all find enjoyable and relaxing. If you hate heat and airports, how about Scotland or Ireland?

Onwhitehorses · 03/08/2018 11:53

I always think that there's a moment before every holiday when if someone said "It's OK, you don't have to go" I'd think thank god for that Grin

NameChanger22 · 03/08/2018 11:58

I don't like the stress of it all, with children. On my own it's fine. I generally prefer to stay here and go on day trips or mini breaks. When I go on a mini break I take 2 changes of clothes and not much else, so it doesn't involve much planning or packing.

Camping can be fun, but uncomfortable, I'd rather have a couple of nights in a really nice hotel than a week camping.

happypoobum · 03/08/2018 12:03

Yes, for me a holiday is about a few days/week/fortnight of getting away from it all and doing what you want/what relaxes and recharges you.

My idea of hell would be packing up a car, driving for hours and hours to southern France, pitching a tent and sharing toilets at a campsite for a fortnight. I would rather fake my own death go to work. However, a woman I work with absolutely loves these holidays and gets so much from it. She would hate my holidays in dusty old museums and cathedrals, wandering around cobbled streets.

My good friend wants me to go to Iceland with her but I would hate it as I hate the cold, so I say no thanks. If you hate the heat, don't go to hot places.

A lot of these problems appear to be caused by people not really reflecting on what they want out of a holiday and/or being pressurised into doing things they don't want to do.

BagelGoesWalking · 03/08/2018 12:04

Would never go camping but DH has never wanted to go although the kids did want to when they were younger, so they went on Scout camps!

DH and DD18 went to Israel in June to visit friends and family. I opted out as I really can't stand that kind of heat anymore, didn't want to do the dutiful family visits (they're all really lovely actually but it's not exactly a holiday). They had a great time and I hid from the sun and watched a lot of Wimbledon 😬

Bimgy85 · 03/08/2018 12:12

I would hate a holiday that included tents, and long drives too OP. Yanbu Blush

Bimgy85 · 03/08/2018 12:13

I've never been on a camping holiday but doesn't seem like my cup of tea. Flight & hotel/apartment all the way.
