To believe that formula companies have PR agents working the BF/FF threads on here?

They are a multi million pound set of companies that are invested in keeping Britain’s low breastfeeding rates down and keeping their profit margins up.

Any positives about breastfeeding seem to be shot down in flames on here.

So much pro formula and anti breastfeeding rhetoric.

They can easily afford to and have the best at the jobs be it lawyers, pr teams or spin doctors on their sides and they’re not exactly renounced for their ethics are they (nestle?!?!).

Or am I just getting a bit tied up in conspiracy therorys? Grin

I breastfed all my children without any problems whatsoever. I loved every second of it and i l loved the skin to skin contact and having them so close to me. It was brilliant. Im afraid i can't say that in real life because when i even begin to talk about my positive experience my friends faces drop and a look of disappointment comes over their faces. Why can't i talk about it openly without looking braggy?

Lacymacy123 · 03/08/2018 20:47

And i forgot to add jealousy too.

Aeroflotgirl · 03/08/2018 20:47

Prescription only, wtaf! Rewehomeyet your views are disgusting. Formula should!d readily available if and when the parents need it! What about in the middle of the night, or if the mother cannot make an appointment to see the Dr. Why should I be penalised for not being able to feed my child, it's a disgrace!

Lacymacy123 · 03/08/2018 20:48

They are disappointed as breastfeeding didnt work for them

MrSpock · 03/08/2018 20:49

Why should it be prescription only?!

Aeroflotgirl · 03/08/2018 20:49

Why should!d I pay double the price, for something my baby needs to stay alive! This kind of attitude will not encourage women to bf, will only seek to put them off. And make those who cannot feed feel awful!

Aeroflotgirl · 03/08/2018 20:51

No Lacyit is fantastic that you were able to bf, I would never begrudge that, but some of the views on FF on here are a disgrace.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 03/08/2018 20:53

Prescriptions for children are free

AgentCooper · 03/08/2018 20:54

I would be surprised if the likes of Nestlé aren't posting on these boards or at the very least monitoring them. Surely that's somebody's job in most big companies these days?

I am hugely pro-breastfeeding but only when it's working for mother and baby. No way does breastfeeding trump a mother's mental health. I'm not anti-formula in the least but I am totally opposed to the de-normalisation of breastfeeding in this country, and it is a thing, no matter what anybody says. Here on minute, BFers are probably in the majority but this is a very middle class site. Watching that Dispatches programme the other night, I was so pissed off at the comments some people made openly about women breastfeeding in public. And I've been arguing with a couple of dafties on threads on FB about how BFing in public isn't disgusting, exhibitionist or 'cavewoman' behaviour.

If a woman really struggles with breastfeeding but is able to feel better after moving over to formula, that's great. But if a woman decides not to breastfeed because it's weird, gross or she's work about what others will think - that's a tragedy. BFing, when it works, is great because, among other things, it's FREE.

heatherscot · 03/08/2018 20:54

I'm completely sure they will have representatives posting on here. It's an influential national forum full of the target market!

Queenofthedrivensnow · 03/08/2018 20:56

@AgentCooper I agree.

I think the no platforming of bf discussion on mn is frightening and much worse now

Lacymacy123 · 03/08/2018 20:57

I am pro choice but I do believe breast is best. There are so many positive properties in breast milk that benefit baby and mummy.

Pengggwn · 03/08/2018 20:57

AgentCooper

A tragedy?

Let's see:

Grenfell
Titanic
Othello

These things are tragedies. A woman thinking BF is weird - how is that a tragedy?

Aeroflotgirl · 03/08/2018 21:02

Nope not from any formula company, been on here for 12 years, joined as I was having difficulty bf. Infant formula should be reading?y available as and when it is needed. There are various instances where it would be difficult to get hold of formula(night, weekend, evening,if Dr appointments weren't available. So what, a baby goes without! I think if that was the case, more people would try and feed their baby cow's milk from the store, or carnation, how it was pretty infant formula.

thereareflowersinmygarden · 03/08/2018 21:02

@Queenofthedrivensnow

Yep! Think MN should look into it

Arewehomeyet · 03/08/2018 21:02

TBH I don't normally post on these sorts of threads. But it is so interesting in doing so seeing the same old (Formula company inspired/directly typed) arguments surfacing again- what is wrong with (free) prescription FF for those who can't BF? Is BF REALLY anti feminist? Should we genuinely ignore the fact that FF doubles death rates in a fully developed country? Does promoting BF actually make everyone who has ever used a bottle feel terribly guilty??

Waves to all the Nestle employees still working at 9pm Grin

Pengggwn · 03/08/2018 21:04

Is BF REALLY anti feminist?

No. Insisting on women BF is anti-feminist.

Arewehomeyet · 03/08/2018 21:05

@aeroflotgirl we have a 24/7 NHS. I wouldn't worry about carnation milk sales suddenly increasing!

AgentCooper · 03/08/2018 21:06

Eh, OK Pengggwn, poor choice of words on my part Hmm

But you know exactly what I meant. A woman thn

Arewehomeyet · 03/08/2018 21:06

@pengggwyn no one can insist on what women do with their bodies. That isn't part of the debate, as doing so would be illegal

CocoDeMoll · 03/08/2018 21:08

Just dipping back in although this thread has got a bit bigger than I thought (I know BF ‘vs’ FF what did I expect 🤦‍♀️).

One thing is people saying that they are all the same. Why then would a massively cash strapped company (NHS) be putting in all this time and money to up the bf rates if it wasn’t to reduce costs of all the stuff breast milk protects against? Surely if it was all the same then they’d go ‘fuck it, let’s just concentrate on excercise or whatever instead’?

People saying why do you care? How you feed your baby is your choice and all but I think that choice should be informed by health professionals and not a money making global conglomerate.

Whatever you decide is fine but people deserve facts from a non bias place.

OP posts:
Pengggwn · 03/08/2018 21:08

Arewehomeyet

And for good reason. So, if you think about it, by putting formula milk on prescription, YOU would be guilty of killing babies. You couldn't legally force me to BF, so are you saying you are prepared to starve my child?

AgentCooper · 03/08/2018 21:09

Sorry, hit post too soon. A woman thinking BF is weird is not a tragedy. A woman who is put off BFing because her family/friends/society tell her it's weird - that's a terrible shame and a reflection of how shit some widely held views in our country are. Better?

Aeroflotgirl · 03/08/2018 21:09

How come anyone who disagrees with you Arewwehomeyet is a nestle employee🤔. Actually I am a stay at home mum with no connections whatsoever to any formula companies. Just grateful formula was readily available when my baby needed it. It saved her life, and is Avery happy and healthy 12 year old. I was so depressed about not being able to feed her myself, but I am fine with it now.

Lacymacy123 · 03/08/2018 21:10

Please watch dispatches 'breastfeeding uncovered' Formula does the job interms of vitamins however breastmilk provides a whole host of other benefits that formula simply cannot provide. Breastmilk is real, formula is fake milk but does the job to a certain extent
