to ask when you started getting grey hairs?

I'm only 26, and I've noticed more than a couple silver strands in my hair.

It's depressing, I feel way too young for this. And it's only going to get worse :S

How old were you when you noticed this, and is there any way to stop this? Is it really caused by stress?

A few when I was only about 20.

Then they exploded when I got to 30 😭

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 02/08/2018 23:24

That's me at the front, sort of a soft white, still a little dye on the ends, and my friend behind, more of a blue grey. Both of us are grey at the front and dark at the back.

to ask when you started getting grey hairs?

  1. I looked in the mirror in the car and almost fainted.
SilageMarner · 02/08/2018 23:26

also, I’m sure I read a long time ago that premature greyness is linked genetically to hereditary high cholesterol, which I also have, thanks parents! But looking it up quickly now I can only find a study done on men, albeit that study does suggest there may be a link (more testing is needed).

  1. And then I ended up dying it for years.

I stopped dying it 2 years ago at the age of 50 and I love it! I should have done it long ago, it's in fabulous condition and I have a white/silver streak at the side which I love. Embrace the grey and be on trend!!

MairyHole · 02/08/2018 23:31

23/24 and I have a lot more now. It's quite normal to start going grey in your 20s.

Gotthetshirt23 · 02/08/2018 23:35

When I discovered my ex husband was a lying c@nt . About 10 years ago .

mrsfollowill · 02/08/2018 23:35

Another teenager here- was my 19th birthday and was gutted! No idea really how many more as I have coloured my hair ever since. Natural colour is dark brown- I have a massive pure white streak in my fringe and a sprinkling everywhere else. My newish hairdresser wanted to make a 'feature' of the streak but I could not be convinced!

Seeingadistance · 02/08/2018 23:43

First white hairs appeared in my mid twenties.

Dyed my hair for most of my 40s. Stopped dying it over 3 years ago now and am loving my natural colour. Hair is in much better condition, with lovely natural sparkles and I look younger than I did with grotty dyed hair.

A few people have said they thought I dyed it grey! Grin

angieloumc · 02/08/2018 23:45

I'm 51 and I'd say I probably have about 50 grey hairs; unfortunately there on my part line and I don't like it anywhere else!
I've been lucky I think, my younger DBro is grey all over his head and DSis is nearly completely grey too.

ginandnappies · 03/08/2018 07:14

26 and I've noticed a few lately.

n0ne · 03/08/2018 08:06

It varies massively from person to person. I only started getting the odd grey this year and I'll be 40 in a few months. DH is nearly completely grey (everywhere Wink) at 42 - he started getting greys in his 20s. My sister has also had grey hairs since her 20s.

BigLass9 · 03/08/2018 08:16

Kokeshi123 · 03/08/2018 09:01

40 here, no grey hairs yet apart from one white eyebrow hair which I've had forever! I pluck it out whenever it appears.

woodhill · 03/08/2018 09:03

Do you think dying it makes the hair go greyer faster or is that just a ridiculous thought?

LemonysSnicket · 03/08/2018 09:25

DPs first at 22 and he has a lovely long grey eyebrow hair at 23 that I get to pluck! He's a redhead too...
I have no idea as have been dying my hair since 14.

hollyjollychristmas · 03/08/2018 09:33

I was about 15 when I first noticed one, had to start dying my roots in the past couple of years (I am 27). I love my natural hair colour so I am very sad to go grey so early, but my mum was grey by the time she was 29

user1497863568 · 03/08/2018 10:17

39

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 03/08/2018 10:19

17, and have been dyeing it ever since! I'm 39 now and really silver at the temples if I don't keep up with the dye, it's very noticeable.

Fountainofchub · 03/08/2018 10:20

Had them since I was 17. I'm 29 now and I've got loads.

I can't say I care tbh, I dye my hair anyway.
