That it takes so long for my online shopping to be delivered

First-time poster here. We just had our first child 6 months ago, and as a stay at home dad, one of the things I've weirdly found most frustrating is how long it takes my online shopping to be delivered (we live in SF).

I don't want the hassle of getting our son ready to go to the shops, and so mostly shop online, but if he loses his dummy, I shrink his clothes Blush or a whole host of other things - I tend to want the item straight away, not wait 3-5 days.

Tell me I'm not mad! Anyone else have a similar frustration? And anyone found anywhere that will do faster delivery (other than Amazon)?

Where is SF? My first thought is San Francisco but I could be way off!

I’m in the U.K. and I get next day delivery from all sorts of places, including amazon, and then some places even do same day delivery for some items, like Argos.

intuition · 01/08/2018 12:03

I would suggest a trip to the shops is a great way of giving your son social experiences. When my DSs were babies we had no choice and they are only 13 & 15.

grumpydaddy · 01/08/2018 12:04

Yes SF = San Francisco!

I can get same day delivery from tescos if ordered by 1pm. Which reminds me I need to do a shop!

KellyBailey · 01/08/2018 12:16

I don't want the hassle of getting our son ready to go to the shops

So do you never leave the house with him, ever?

HereForTheLaughs · 01/08/2018 12:21

What a #FirstWorldProblem.

Essentially, you can't be bothered to get your child ready to do the most basic of adult/parenting tasks.

BILLIONS of people around the planet do this, every single day. They don't have the luxury of online shopping, or childcare support.

If you CBA with being parent, I'd advise you use protection and don't procreate!

SaucyJack · 01/08/2018 12:25

No, I don’t have a similar frustration because I’m not too lazy to get dressed and go to Tesco if I need to buy something for immediate use.

LeighaJ · 01/08/2018 12:28

In both the US and UK I've found few deliver faster then Amazon. I'm at home with my daughter on mat leave and don't drive, our Amazon Prime membership is worth every penny. Plus there are shows you get to watch for free with it.

I just used Amazon Prime 2 hour delivery for the first time today because the batteries for her swing suddenly died.

WhiteCoyote · 01/08/2018 12:29

For gods sake he’s 6 months old. You can time it so you go out straight after he’s had a bottle so he’ll probably sleep most of the way.
Get one of those cords that attaches his dummy to his blanket so you don’t keep losing it.

LeighaJ · 01/08/2018 12:31

SF isn't always the nicest place to take a stroll as an adult let alone with a baby. I lived there for years and it can be pretty dodgy in some areas and public transportation isn't nearly as nice as it is in the UK.

pennycarbonara · 01/08/2018 12:34

You'd really be better asking on an American / Californian forum as people will know what places deliver in the area, and what the service is like.

grumpydaddy · 01/08/2018 12:43

Yes - apols is there a different mumsnet for the US? A lot of the responses seem to be UK based. I'm actually in the UK at the moment which might be why it's directed me here.

OP posts:
pennycarbonara · 01/08/2018 12:45

Mumsnet is a UK forum. It doesn't have a US branch. You'd need to find separate American sites.

TheQueef · 01/08/2018 12:46

Unless you just fancied being berated and called lazy, in which case you are on the correct mumsnet.

I think my youngest was 9months old before I ventured further than the garden.

Dieu · 01/08/2018 12:51

Wow, some really harsh responses on here. And the poster who made the procreation comment is a CF.

MereDintofPandiculation · 01/08/2018 12:52

Anyone else have a similar frustration? No, but I can remember before the internet, when 28 days delivery was all anyone would commit to.

I think my youngest was 9months old before I ventured further than the garden. 9 months house arrest? Wow! I can remember a supermarket shop being the highlight of my week, just to get out of house and garden.

LeighaJ · 01/08/2018 12:52

I would try searching again once you're back in the states. There aren't an overwhelming amount of Americans here and it's been so long since I lived in the bay area that my advice would be dated.

Unfortunately MN also isn't very welcoming to Americans, Men, or Step-Mums. Sad

HereForTheLaughs · 01/08/2018 12:57

@Dieu Why am I a CF? Because OP has time to moan about a non-issue on an internet forum rather than just get up and go to the shops, and I called them out on it? The world we live in today is full of people who have kids, and then cannot be bothered to parent them.
If you can't be bothered, no problem. Just don't procreate. It's really not that hard.

MyYoniFromHull · 01/08/2018 12:59

Unfortunately MN also isn't very welcoming to Americans, Men, or Step-Mums and people who can't be bothered to go shopping because they have a baby?

Shopping with a baby is a PITA and very dull. Sorry about that. On the bright side a 6mo is portable, and can't yet run off or say rude things to strangers, so look for the silver lining, eh

Dieu · 01/08/2018 13:01

Honestly? I don't know what's worse. The fact that you said it, or don't even realise it was out of order.
Maybe he is being a lazy arse. Maybe there are issues going on for him that we don't know about.
Either way, doesn't mean he's a shitty parent.
You carry on though, slating complete strangers on an internet forum.
Would like to see how long you'd last coming out with that wee gem in real life though.

HereForTheLaughs · 01/08/2018 13:04

Probably the same amount of time you'd last calling someone a CF in real life.

Pot kettle black. yawn

Bizzylizzyloo · 01/08/2018 13:04

Surely you can get Amazon prime in San francisco?

BrutusMcDogface · 01/08/2018 13:05

@TheQueef- You stayed in for NINE MONTHS?! Shock

RedneckStumpy · 01/08/2018 13:08

Must be a SF thing I am in Maine. I can’t get online shopping. Can’t even get a takeaway delivered

soupforbrains · 01/08/2018 13:08

@Dieu what I find most interesting is your assumption that OP is male.

OP lots of websites that I'm aware of offer next day delivery you just have to pay a little extra. And then obviously as you said there is Amazon with Prime ans everything. I would to be honest have expected that in the US you'd be able to get even faster delivery than us over here. Especially what with being in Cali AND in a big city.

Are you just googling things or are you actively trying to order from companies which you know have a local store? Obviously the US is enormous so if what you're looking at is on the other side of the country I can understand delivery taking a couple of days.
