That it takes so long for my online shopping to be delivered

First-time poster here. We just had our first child 6 months ago, and as a stay at home dad, one of the things I've weirdly found most frustrating is how long it takes my online shopping to be delivered (we live in SF).

I don't want the hassle of getting our son ready to go to the shops, and so mostly shop online, but if he loses his dummy, I shrink his clothes Blush or a whole host of other things - I tend to want the item straight away, not wait 3-5 days.

Tell me I'm not mad! Anyone else have a similar frustration? And anyone found anywhere that will do faster delivery (other than Amazon)?

No assumption made, as he clearly states it in the first sentence of his opening post.

soupforbrains · 01/08/2018 13:17

Apologies @Dieu I take it back.

@LeighaJ I think that's an incredibly sweeping statement.

I don't think that Mumsnet is Unwelcoming to Americans, it's just that it is a UK based forum, and so the majority of users are UK based and do not have knowledge of US life details. IT may mean that as in this case, we are unable to be AS helpful as a US based forum might be on an issue but I don't think Americans are unwelcome at all.

I also don't think that mumsnet is unwelcoming to men, it IS intolerent of men who are sexist, but i don't think it is harsh on Men inherently. Ditto Step-mums.

Dieu · 01/08/2018 13:17

No worries :)

Racecardriver · 01/08/2018 13:18

Most supermarkets stock those things and do next day delivery. Ocado can definitely get stuff to you the next day if you order in the evening.

NameChangeUni · 01/08/2018 13:19

Can’t you select a faster delivery option? Or is it not available in your area?

NameChangeUni · 01/08/2018 13:21

I can only suggest stocking up on items that you tend to repurchase often so you can avoid this in the future

Sisgal · 01/08/2018 13:33

Move??

rosylea · 01/08/2018 13:46

Thequeef, don't blame you Grin Too much hassle and too many expectations nowadays that parents must take their babies out. Bet your baby loved his/her time with mumSmile

grumpydaddy · 01/08/2018 13:47

@RedneckStumpy Why is that? are you out in the country?

OP posts:
JessieMcJessie · 01/08/2018 13:53

What on Earth do you do all day if you don’t go out near any shops that sell dummies or baby clothes?

Is there not Amazon Prime in San Francisco?

Why don’t you call your wife/partner and ask her (or him) to bring home the thing you need?

RedneckStumpy · 01/08/2018 13:54

We are rural but not too far out. It’s just something that isn’t offered. It’s the same I’m MA, VT, NH.

I can click and collect in Walmart that’s it

rosylea · 01/08/2018 13:59

RedneckStumpy, Maine? Isn't that where cps are being a bit over zealous with removing children? If you don't mind me asking of course?

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 01/08/2018 14:01

Well I did online shops for most things when my kids were tiny as I didn’t have a car. It was easier.

All I can say really is - stop shrinking clothes and plan better! Grin

RedneckStumpy · 01/08/2018 14:02

rosylea

I don’t mind you asking, it maybe but I haven’t heard anything about it on the news

TheQueef · 01/08/2018 14:03

Yup 9 months.

Fuck that, I was stitched up like a kipper, feeding on demand with mastitis and me hair had fallen out.

I only got dressed for the HV.

Judge away!

just because I didn't take dc out didn't mean they were inside, other family members were available

BrutusMcDogface · 01/08/2018 14:08

I'm not judging (bloody mumsnet and its assumption that everyone is bloody judging all the bloody time!) I'm just shocked and surprised. I can't go anywhere at the moment due to having had a section a couple of weeks ago and I'm going FUCKING INSANE.

SaucyJack · 01/08/2018 14:10

That’s sounds awful for you Queef- but as the OP is a man I’d say there was around a 100% chance that birth or breastfeeding injuries are affecting his ability to get the baby dressed and pop to the shop.

SaucyJack · 01/08/2018 14:11

are not!

rosylea · 01/08/2018 14:12

RedneckStumpy, not mainstream news. YouTube, something like cps corruption in maine. Anyhow, as for shopping, you seem a bit stuck there. Could you get together with a few others and do a rota of car shopping?

JessieMcJessie · 01/08/2018 14:15

Buy at least 5 dummies! They are always going missing.

Copperbonnet · 01/08/2018 14:15

5 days?

I’m in Texas and I can get most things delivered via Amazon Prime within two days.

I did an Amazon order last night for bed linen, a pair of shoes, a book and a bag and it will all be here tomorrow.

I also find Walmart delivery pretty quick.

I’m surprised there’s so much variation.

BlueGenes · 01/08/2018 14:16

I don't know how it works in the US but in the UK you can order a shop for 3-5 days time and then amend/edit your order until the day before it arrives.

BlueGenes · 01/08/2018 14:17

If not then have a big stash of dummies and learn how to do laundry better Grin

TheQueef · 01/08/2018 14:17

I do hope you aren't assuming the OP gender SJ Wink

I'm hoping there are no birth injuries to the OP, I just remember that feeling of even attempting a trip out.
(This was years ago, tis worse now with car seats and deceptercon prams)

My friend has a gc she watches and the tranqilments she arrives with make me have flashbacks Grin

my2bundles · 01/08/2018 14:23

Hi just find this a little funny. Dressing a 6 Minh old is the easy part, wait untill you have an 18 month old who runs away screams no and strips the second you dress them, repeat 10 million times 😝 When my youngest was 6 months I was doing 4 school runs a day by foot plus every other chore outside the home with baby n tow. Honestly it will do you both the world of good to dress the baby, get him in the pram and walk to the shops.
