So doing
Starter of deep fried brie with cranberry
Main. Steak, crispy potato slices (cheated and brought fresh in tesco) mushrooms, onion rings..
Side of garlic bread
Pudding. Homemade apple pie and custard

Just realised I have no peas or anything to go with the dinner. No opportunity to go get any as Dp has taken the car seat in his car so would have to walk and don't have time as MIL will be coming round...

WIBU to just either grill salad tomatoes or used tinned as think that's all I have
Or what other suggestions?

How about a small side salad to go with it?
You've already got mushrooms. If no salad then grilled tomatoes would work. It's what they often serve with steak in restaurants.

Daisypod · 31/07/2018 14:15

Get Mil to bring some?

ScienceIsTruth · 31/07/2018 14:15

They often just serve grilled mushroom and tomato with steak and chips, and it seems filling enough.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 31/07/2018 14:16

It would be ok as is, but I’d enjoy some grilled tomatoes with it. Can MIL bring some peas?

Alwayscheerful · 31/07/2018 14:16

I would serve with grilled tomatoes on the vine about 5 small ones per person , leave them attached.

Poodles1980 · 31/07/2018 14:17

Wouldn’t worry about it. There is plenty there already. Sounds nice

Porridgeprincess · 31/07/2018 14:17

You could make creamy mushrooms for with the steak?

Fry off the punnett mushrooms with some season all (you could add chopped up bacon too) then add about 100mls of stock, remove from the heat and add some cream cheese and it will be a lovely creamy mushroom side.

INeedMoreCakeInMyLife · 31/07/2018 14:18

Salad.. Didn't think of that. I doubt she would as she's disabled and can't walk far so would be a pain for her to stop off.
Thanks lovelies.. Salad it is.

peachypetite · 31/07/2018 14:18

There is plenty to go with the steak already

INeedMoreCakeInMyLife · 31/07/2018 14:21

SimonBridges · 31/07/2018 15:17

It’s his birthday. You don’t have to east vegetables on your birthday.

INeedMoreCakeInMyLife · 31/07/2018 15:18

Like the no veg idea lol. But it's a bit of color lol.
Now I fancy grilled Toms.. This rate the plates will be overflowing.

GahWhatever · 31/07/2018 15:25

grilled tomato is a classic accompaniment to steak, and with mushrooms and onions will give you plenty of textural variety.
No need for salad.

BrutusMcDogface · 31/07/2018 15:27

I was going to say grilled tomatoes! Was beaten to it by everyone else Grin

INeedMoreCakeInMyLife · 31/07/2018 15:28

Grill salad tomatoes, they will be nice with steak and mushrooms.

viques · 31/07/2018 15:33

Grilled tomatoes! with everything else on the plate hot a salad would be best served separately after the meat, so save yourself the effort and grill those toms.

I would move the garlic bread to go with the cheese though, you need something to dip and the steak already has potatoes for carbs.

villainousbroodmare · 31/07/2018 15:38

Omg that sounds glorious! You could also put the tomatoes on the pan, with a bit of butter and a drop of oil, either whole if cherry sized or sliced if larger. Or oven, if it's easier.

MrsEricBana · 31/07/2018 15:40

Do the toms in the oven with a little olive oil and herbs - really easy.

MrsEricBana · 31/07/2018 15:41

Xpost!

Celticrose · 31/07/2018 15:41

My DH loves roasted tomatoes . I use the baby tomatoes wrapped in tin foil with some basil olive oil, salt, black pepper and if you have some balsamic vinegar. We usually do this on the bbq but you can use oven.
If the tomatoes are still on the vine that can look nice as well. You do not have to use tin foil.

Travis1 · 31/07/2018 16:03

I always do grilled tomatoes and mushrooms with my steak and fry off onion! Mmmmm now I want steak!!!

bellabasset · 31/07/2018 16:06

If you have large tomatoes cut them in half and top with breadcrumbs and parmesan. Love this with steak. Also like cherry tomatoes baked in the oven.

Love garlic bread so agree would put this on the table with the cheese
