stop posting your message indiscriminately in every thread

it is irritating and against the ethos of talkboards

OP posts:
quadrophenia · 31/05/2007 17:41

you beat me to it Twig

lulumama · 31/05/2007 17:43

there are now going to be 76 threads about cycle woman, and they will take over the board

Twiglett · 31/05/2007 17:51

yes but only mine is of any importance of course

its like those fake 'russian begging ones' isn't it?

OP posts:
2shoes · 31/05/2007 17:55

well said twiggie

NotQuiteCockney · 31/05/2007 17:57

Presumably MN towers will just delete them? They are very annoying and irritating. Certainly not likely to motivate me to give, that's for sure.

lulumama · 31/05/2007 17:59

she has posted 27 times !!

I would be amazed if anyone was in the frame of mind to donate after that

niceglasses · 31/05/2007 18:00

She has actually started her on thread but did it on a Saturday, hence quiet. Will bump for her.

Twiglett · 31/05/2007 18:25

but why would we sponsor a total stranger

its begging

OP posts:
niceglasses · 31/05/2007 18:26

Don't sponosor her then.

Twiglett · 31/05/2007 18:27

i shan't

niceglasses · 31/05/2007 18:33

Did you ever see 'Waynes World' where they fell out and as they sat on the bonnett of the car they kept saying:

'I'm going then'

'Well go'

'I'm gone'

'so, go'

yes? no?

This feels a bit similar......

CycleIndia2008 · 02/06/2007 08:18

It is amazing that people are willing to put me down for doing something for charity! It is not begging as the money is not for ME is it. It is for women & babies which as this is a mums site I thought I could rally support from some of you.
I play online games on king.com and have recieved some very generous donations from them.. most of whom I do not know.

The majority of collections for charity that go on are for strangers!

I am fundraising in order to help raise awareness for this charity. Read about it before you critise me. I am going to be cycling 390kms to raise money. Not exactly a walk in the park.

READ THIS

If you don't wish to donate then fine.. all I am doing is trying to spread the word.

Thanks

CycleIndia2008 · 02/06/2007 08:20

oh and thank you niceglasses for your support

lyrabelacqua · 02/06/2007 08:27

Nobody's criticising you for raising money, just for plastering your message all over MN 27 times. It's not the done thing.

CycleIndia2008 · 02/06/2007 08:31

sorry if I offended anyone.. but I was simply spreading the word to various points as obviously not everyone reads all areas

jajas · 02/06/2007 09:11

lulumama · 02/06/2007 09:18

all you need to do, is start one thread, and keep bumping it, so it stays in the active conversation list, that way, lots of people see it, without needing to post all over the board

Carmenere · 02/06/2007 09:25

Basically CycleIndia what you did is considered very bad manners on forums. Posting a thread and repeatedly bumping it is fine as it gives people the option whether to open it or not. Posting a post repeadtedly into threads where people are trying to work out problems is plain rudeness and has achieved nothing but animosity . Less people on here will actually sponsor you now because you have annoyed them. I know what you are doing is highly commendable but there is a better way of rallying support.
Perhaps hang around here for a while to see where would be the best place to post would be a better idea. And good luck with it

CycleIndia2008 · 02/06/2007 09:54

point taken.. but as Jajas says people could simply ignore the message rather than attack me for trying!

Twiglett · 02/06/2007 09:57

it might be a good cause but you get sponsorship from friends

nobody knows who you are .. you have no affinity to people here (AFAIK) unless you are a name-changer .. so basically what you are doing is CHUGGING ..(charity mugging)

we have many worthy causes going on at any one time, surrounding people we have a relationship with ... we have just raised over 12K for FSIDS, we have christmas appeals

I object to chugging from complete strangers .. its rude

OP posts:
lyrabelacqua · 02/06/2007 09:58

It's hard to ignore when active conversations is choc full of the same post 27 times.
Not attacking, just explaining
Good luck with your cycle ride, btw.

Carmenere · 02/06/2007 09:59

Not really CI as it is the internet version of someone coming in between some people having a chat and shouting about something completely different. You can see how it might have upset people. However I'd imagine you won't be doing it again in a hurry

ChippyMinton · 02/06/2007 09:59

What struck me was that we don't 'know' you, do we cycleindia, unless you are a namechanger? I would consider supporting a regular poster, but not a complete stranger. How about starting a thread introducing yourself and letting people know a bit more about you and the event?

CycleIndia2008 · 02/06/2007 10:17

There is a main topic I started which other than this will be the only ones I will posting about this now

FrannyandZooey · 02/06/2007 10:28

Good stuff CycleIndia, that is a much better idea

You may not realise but most of us use the Active Convos button to navigate the site, so if someone comes around posting the same message many times on different topics, all we see when we press "active conversations" is that person having posted the same message 27 times

Start your own thread and stick to that one, unless of course you have something to add that's pertinent to other people's threads. MN is a fab place and very addictive so I hope you stop and have a read while you are here
