AIBU to wonder how long interviewers take to get back to you?

For background info, I haven't applied for a new job in a while and work in a school (so typically you find out on the day if you've got/not got the job).

I applied for a job a couple of weeks ago which looks perfect for me. The interview date was on the advert for the end of August. I got a phone call from the company saying that they had received lots of applicants and that they had introduced an initial telephone interview to create a shorter list for the face-to-face. I had my telephone interview last Friday.

I've not heard anything yet - am I being ridiculous? Do things take longer in the 'real' (ie non school) world?

Did you ask when you were likely to hear?
I've had interviews and never heard back (Britsh Heart Foundation, I'm looking at you....) and it really pisses me off. I've taken time and effort to apply, prepare a presentation, swot up for the interview and used precious annual leave to attend the interview and they can't even be bothered to give me a quick call or even email. Definitely won't be applying again to those places. I even called and asked for feedback, and chased by email. Nowt. Doesn't create the impression of a good employer at all.

If they're doing telephone pre-interviews they might not be doing them all on the same day. It's unlikely they'd make or communicate decisions until they've finished all of them.

When you say last Friday do you mean three days ago or the week before? Did you ask at the interview when you could expect to hear or how many people they were interviewing? Public sector I have waited between a few hours and six weeks (after being told it would be two weeks). Got the job each time, so not about success etc

It was Friday at the end of last week. The interviewer explained that she had other telephone appointments in the afternoon and I just think in my relief at having gotten it over and done with I just forgot to ask. Argh!

I've literally not stopped checking my emails since. It's so hard - I spent ages preparing for the interview and arranged child and dog (!) care..... I didn't want a yapping dog interrupting!

I have done a lot of interviews in the past few years. It really varies on how long they take to get back to you but my experience with private companies is if they are going to offer you the second interview or the job they call within a week. Was there no indication during the phone interview? Usually the recruiter would say they were going to put you on the shortlist.

The interviewer didn't say and I just forgot to ask in my panic! She did say 'good luck' but that was it...... I just assumed I'd hear at the end of the day or over the weekend (the interviewer works from home).

Should I email or does that make me really needy?

3 months after my interview I hadn't heard anything and assumed I hadn't got the job. I emailed them to just check and immediately got a phone call offering me the job.

Don't think this is anyway normal though. Although it seems to be for my place of work - I've been there a year and still don't have a contract!

Well if it was Friday as in 3 days ago then I would think they’re still doing the phone interviews. How did the interview go?
