To want a nice garden and a child play area?

I have a lovely large garden round the back of my propert. At least, I used to. Recently my DS has been loving playing outside and will gladly spend most of him at home hours in the garden, riding his bike or scooter up and down or just running around playing.
Only everything is now dead. There’s zero grass. It’s just one big soil/mud area, and looks so sad.
I’ve tried putting new grass seeds down. Nothing. Tried topsoil and more expensive grass seeds. Still nothing. I watered daily. I couldn’t think of why nothing was growing.
Then a friend mentioned that nothing will grow when DS is out there so often, stomping everything down.
She’s right, isn’t she? Sad
AIBU to keep going out there like a mad lady, throwing down grass seeds in the hope that something might just grow? Blush
I want him to play outside happily and enjoy himself, but I also want a lovely looking garden I can be proud of.
Also, if anyone else has a garden like mine please tell me so I can not feel so alone! Grin

Is the garden big enough for two areas? I grew up with a garden with two separate lawns. One was a bit scruffy, and siblings and I were allowed to play there without much in the way of restrictions. The other was pristine and we weren't allowed to play on it, only sit and read or similar. Worked well.

You could also try taking him to the park for bike and scooter and seeing whether his just running around has the same effect or whether the grass has more of a chance to grow? The hot summer may not have helped either.
