Quotation from Quintillian, I believe (unless someone was fibbing about that too).

The Oaf's off on his hols to Bedminster today, but he's not letting that interfere with his rallyfest - 4 Aug, Lewis Centre, Ohio.

A somewhat vague Trump link via Space Force, a new Space Nation has been created.
Remember Lembit Opik? Ever wondered what happened to him? Grin

Meanwhile, Ivanka. Hmm

Ah, Lembit, Lweji, he never disappoints from touching a Cheeky Girl's bum to orbiting with Dr Evil Igor Grin Thank you for that!

Roussette · 03/08/2018 11:07

Gump I totally agree. I've watched clips of yesterday's rally and it really is venomous. He was abusing the Press continually calling them disgusting, it really was a baying mob and worst I've seen.

He lied, lied and lied again, he whipped his cult up into a complete frenzy. How on earth someone somewhere doesn't stop this, god alone knows.

The only comfort I take is... someone tweeted that they are a student, they were paid $50 to attend and told what to cheer at, what to scream at etc. And this woman said at least 50 from her college went and were all paid.

So is it all just smoke and mirrors

'Why Congress Rolls Over for Trump.
The powerful institutionalists who used to rule the House and Senate have been replaced by inexperienced partisans. And it shows.'

It is very worrying, Roussette, and just look at the tone of this Politico article, treating that cascade of lies, and horror show of incitement and hate, as if it were a normal political rally. The more frequent these rallies are, the more normalised they become, which is just as frightening.

'Trump rallies in Pennsylvania as his fortunes there sag.
The president, who put in a pugnacious performance, is aiming to energize his supporters in a critical swing state while helping a close ally in an uphill Senate battle.'

Roussette · 03/08/2018 12:07

An advisor to Trump says 'good old fashioned rallies work' in that article mini.

Surely this is nothing like anything that's ever happened before? The insults thrown at everyone, he even insulted McCain whose life is ending because of cancer. How he portrayed him (copying his mannerisms when he voted against GOP's healthcare bill) was as bad as mocking the disabled reporter in my book. Yes I agree it's all portrayed as 'normal'

Gumpendorf · 03/08/2018 12:13

If you need to escape the horror story and stay within (sane) US politics, I am thoroughly enjoying Ben Rhodes book 'the World as it is'.

It's the story of the Obama foreign policy through the eyes of his NSC deputy director and speechwriter. Rhodes was close to Obama so it's a good portrait of Obama too, and it's v well written which always helps. Smile

lionheart · 03/08/2018 12:13

Plenty of people on social media suggest the media not cover the rallies, or the pressers.

She was paid $100 to attend your rally last night, along with at least 50 others she knows about.

She was encouraged to find cameras and yell whatever was most common.'

Qanon - interviews with Q believers at Oaf's last rally, plus some background, on Anderson Cooper from 29 mins in. Interesting, but not in a good way:

Once the midterms are over, he'll start campaigning for 2020 unless he has declared he is supreme emperor before then It's horrifying.

I tried to write a post suggesting the same lion or a pool system that just involved sharing news but concluded that people need to see how he's unhinged and he's likely to play up even more to get the attention. It's truly frightening

My point exactly, Roussette, 'good, old-fashioned rallies' these are not. There has always been dabble rousing, banter, etc., but these Oaf fests are something else, more dangerous.
I've heard arguments for just one camera and pool reporter covering these rallies now, lion, can't recall which show it was on yesterday, but both commentators favoured it. It would get the reporting job done just as well. Apparently, the first thing the Oaf does when he gets on stage is do a quick scan of the ranks of cameras and journos . I think it is the way to go. Of course, he will make something of it, with taunts and calling them out as cowards, or some such. But he uses and abuses them now. However, the media still make huge revenue off the Oaf, so I can see there being reluctance in just using a pooler. (I'll see if I can track down the exchange)

ohmymimi · 03/08/2018 12:39

dabble rabble (far more effective than a dabble), plus bolding fail, Roussette

ohmymimi · 03/08/2018 12:44

This is very interesting about easing sanctions on Rusal and:
'Joyce Vance, a former federal prosecutor, says that there is a good chance that Robert Mueller will name President Trump an unindicted co-conspirator in the Russia investigation. Lawrence also discusses what that means with Eugene Robinson an Maya Wiley.'

Roussette · 03/08/2018 12:47

rabble dabble rousing it is! Grin

Oh yes to one press pool journo and that is it... last night he was going on about it being like the Oscars (he said the same the night before). If it was one solitary journo and one camera, he'd blow a gasket!

He purely wants the bank of cameras there to abuse them and wind his cult followers up. Surely a POTUS should not be inciting violence? (silly statement I know, he breaks all the norms all the time).

He was 'on' for 90 minutes last night and come the end was slurring and missing words. He's an unfit 72 year old with the memory of a gnat, I'm surprised he can manage that long.

Lweji · 03/08/2018 12:50

Yes, that would be great. But Trump sells.
