Naked MIL

MIL had ds1 & ds2 for a few hours recently to help out with childcare in school holidays (not a regular arrangement). Ds1 came home and said gran was walking round naked! It turns out she had gone for a mid morning shower and was walking about naked (indoors obvs)

AIBU to think this is not acceptable, ds1 is 12 and ds2 is 7?

It’s inappropriate to do something like that that will embarrass your GC. It’s not to do with the nakedness but that she has embarrassed him or made him feel uncomfortable. I’m assuming that she hasn’t been regularly naked around them since birth so it’s a bit odd to start when the GC are older. I would either speak to her or get your partner to do so. It’s doesn’t have to be a big problem though. She has accidentally embarrassed her GS and just needs to not do it again.

DioneTheDiabolist · 30/07/2018 22:07

OP, it's good that your son's were able to tell you that they felt uncomfortable. Thanks Now they will be watching to see what you do about it.

Call the grandmother and tell her what the boys told you. Blush If she is relatively normal, she will be a bit embarrassed and take more care in the future. And your son's will see that when they came to you with a problem, you dealt with it in a drama free, adult way.

Good luck.Smile

Mind you on here its normal for a 17year old to share his mums bed....totally natural apparently definitely not though

Mishappening · 30/07/2018 22:18

Given the age of DS1 then this seems a bit thoughtless and inconsiderate. My little GC often arrive early when I am not quite dressed so I just carry on - but they are too young to feel embarrassed by it. I have no problem with family nudity, but she does need to give thought to their feelings if they are old enough to be embarrassed.

SandyY2K · 30/07/2018 22:49

My DC wouldn't want to go again tbh. People need to realise that though certain behaviours are okay with them, the general public wouldn't think so.
That's just common sense.

There is something called social norms. Prancing/walking around naked in view of your GC doesn't fall in the social norm category.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 30/07/2018 22:58

Prancing around?

BertrandRussell · 30/07/2018 23:00

Back to the old nipple tassels again.

enbh · 31/07/2018 00:05

YANBU - just plain weird! How bloody hard is it to cover up?!?!

Moussemoose · 31/07/2018 00:05

Do you automatically prance when naked. I am going to walk around my house naked and assess if I am prancing or not.

I quite like the idea of a furtive prance.

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2018 00:06

I suspect that if you are a mil you prance.

Bluntness100 · 31/07/2018 00:22

I guess the world is divided into those who flash their minge at their 12 year old grandsons, and those who don't and never the two shall meet.

If you're the sort who does it and defends it, please accept it will very likely make your grandchildren uncomfortable, so do it with that in mind. If you don't give a fuck, then you show them what you've got.

The rest of us reserve the right to deeply dislike your behaviour. And you will need to accept that. They don't like it. We don't like it. But you show it to them if that's what you like to do.

BertrandRussell · 31/07/2018 00:33

"I guess the world is divided into those who flash their minge at their 12 year old grandsons, and those who don't and never the two shall meet."
Or the other category? Those of us who accept that sometimes a towel
Is dropped, or somebody accidentally opens a door or somebody thinks they can't be seen when they are, or thinks they have time to nip from room to room because any potential observers are watching TV. And oh god the awfulness of being disparaging about women -"flash their minge" ffs.Seriously?? "Flash their minge?"

MrsAidanTurner · 31/07/2018 00:34

I'm also at a loss why people don't have towels wrapped round them going from Bath to bed.. Is it a risk anyone would take with Young lads in the house.

If grandad did this and child told mum and mum told police it would be investigated.

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/07/2018 00:36

DH encountered what must be the ultimate naked prance at the beach on holiday this year. Two naked men with inflatable unicorns! My personal brain bleach moment was a woman who walked up the beach in a bikini but then stripped it off when she got to her sunbed and vigorously rubbed herself dry and was playing particular attention to her bush and folds of flesh in her thighs. I wasn't staring but she was so close that I could have used her arse crack as a book holder so it was hard not to get an eyeful. It takes all sorts though eh?

MrsAidanTurner · 31/07/2018 00:39

At the beach yes. Esp a beach with nudists.

Op I'd just say the boys saw you naked and it's deeply embarrassed them. Ask them to tell you if it happens again.

MrsAidanTurner · 31/07/2018 00:40

Yy dione perfect.

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/07/2018 00:51

It wasn't a nudist beach but it was Minorca and the Spanish are very relaxed about it. Nude in public really isn't for me but not bothered about others. it was initially a bit of an eye opener for teen dss as most foreign holidays they could remember we've been in Turkey and it's not so much a thing there. Didn't take them long to not give a shit though.

MrsAidanTurner · 31/07/2018 01:12

You except people to be uncovered on a beach.

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/07/2018 01:15

Indeed you do. It was the prancing that caused my digression Smile

Moussemoose · 31/07/2018 02:12

I've been prancing and flashing for a few hours now. Unfortunately, everyone else is asleep so I don't know if that counts.

Can you only flash if others are around?

I'm not sure about 'minge' though. I think I might 'fanny flash' instead or 'pussy prance' I do like a bit of alliteration.

Zommum · 31/07/2018 02:20

Ask the children if they felt uncomfortable. If it bothered them, then it's ok to ask her not to.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 31/07/2018 02:21

😳

FloweryTwats45 · 31/07/2018 02:31

Tbh, I would give zero fucks if my grandson saw me naked when he was 2, but l doubt I'd do that after about 6.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 31/07/2018 02:38

Good point Flowery
When my dd was about 4 she saw my mums friend getting out of the shower.
Said friend is quite a large lady, she was a bit shocked and said
“Oh sorry darling! You shouldn’t have to see that!”
Dd replied “that’s ok. You’re all shiny”
Never forgotten
