To go back to the salon and ask for my hair to be re-done?

So I went into a National hair salon for a wash cut with a senior stylist a few days ago. I specifically asked for someone with knowledge of my hair type and was advised this Is the lady to help. I was specific in saying I need a cut that will work with me just washing it and letting it air dry. I don’t have time for drying it straight and styling daily. The stylist said she could do this and took a fair amount off the length- not a problem as I expected it. When she finished the cut she suggested blowing drying it straight as I’m in the saloon, I agreed. I didn’t get to see the cut and how it will dry naturally as a result and I’ve since washed and air dried it at home and it looks awful! Really ragged and like it’s a mop! Do I have grounds to go back and asked for it to be redone?

I once went to T&G, the hairdresser told me he couldnt cut my fringe as he doesnt do them!! He only told me this after he had cut butchered the rest of my hair so I ended up doing it myself. Never ever been back.

Just popping on to wish you luck today going back to the salon.

Stay calm and stay strong. They have done a terrible job (sorry I don't want to offend you)

TheLionRoars1110 · 30/07/2018 11:09

T&G don't know anything about curly hair. Try finding someone who cuts it dry. That way they can see the shape and don't hack too much off. THey did the same to me many moons ago. I wouldn't go back personally. Try and get a refund and find a curly hair specialist.

WillowRose79 · 30/07/2018 17:04

did you get it sorted?

StoatOfManyColours · 30/07/2018 17:12

My hair is curly when long and in many years of going to hairdressers I've never come across one who offers to cut it dry. Surely they're in a tiny minority?

bsbabas · 30/07/2018 17:17

Yeah Toni and guy expect you to be a stylist at home with all the latest gadgets and products. Next time try a cheaper place and tell the stylist how you plan to style it at home.

Harmonyrays · 30/07/2018 19:15

I spoke to the manager and put my complaint across. She has asked me to come back tomorrow at 1pm for a consultation and to correct it! I said I’m concerned as I’ve not much hair left and don’t want to risk another mess up. Her suggestion was to come in and have a chat about it and if I don’t feel confident about going ahead tomorrow she will hold the cut for me for a while until it regrows and I can go back. I’m going to go in with it ready for a dry cut and if she can’t or won’t do it I will ask for my money back. I have a feeling they will just refuse this and want to cut it them self. It’s such a pain as I’ve just found a curly hair salon in the town!

I feel like she is just trying to fob you off so that you don't get your money back. They shouldn't be 'holding the cut' if nothing can be done they should be refunding you.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 30/07/2018 20:10

They just don't want to give you a refund-stand firm on this.
I have long very curly hair-been going to the same stylist for years & never had a dry cut, I have it trimmed & layered & she's never fucked it up so a dry cut isn't necessarily the best option.

Unusualllly · 30/07/2018 22:22

Dry cuts don't work at all with wavy hair, it needs to be really curly with the same hairs falling in the same exact curls after every wash for a dry cut to work.

Aridane · 30/07/2018 22:28

Is OP’s hair actually curly? In the picture it just appears slightly wavy. Or by curly do we mean hair that isn’t straight@?

Popc0rn · 30/07/2018 22:37

Yeah I was wondering that - it doesn't look curly in the photo? My hair is wavy, but I don't think there's any hair cut that could make my hair look nice if I let it dry naturally, especially not one that short!

MisstoMrs · 31/07/2018 06:37

My hair is wavy too and I agree, if I let it dry naturally it’s a mess, but that is a spectacularly bad Toni and Guy special. I genuinely don’t think they have a clue. I imagine they were aiming for layers....

MisstoMrs · 31/07/2018 06:40

This is one of their mid length styles on the ‘style finder’

Personally I would be horrified with this. If this is the kind of style they are practicing creating it really makes me wonder whether they are capable of a normal haircut. The answer is no, in my experience. Good luck OP.

To go back to the salon and ask for my hair to be re-done?
PJBanana · 31/07/2018 06:52

Good luck OP. I would definitely aim for a refund, and then take your money elsewhere.

I have to agree with pp though, your hair looks more wavy than curly. So I have no idea what they have tried to do to your hair!

Mine is 3b/3c curly and it is a nightmare trying to find somewhere to get it cut. And as other posters have said, people with 3b+ hair type should always have a dry cut, not a wet cut.

SpiritedLondon · 31/07/2018 06:55

I think Toni and Guy have a particular style which I tend to associate with shorter layered looks. To me they were very big in the 90s but I’m not sure I would be tempted by them now. I definitely think that some of their franchises are really ropey.

Sevendown · 31/07/2018 07:16

I thought it was just me who had a dodgy experience with t& g and curly hair!

SmartyPants0 · 31/07/2018 07:32

If you want to encourage more volume or curls in your hair I would brush it... I'd wrap it in a turban till its nearly dry and then with a wide tooth comb, comb it into place and leave.

sue51 · 31/07/2018 11:55

Sevendown T & G have been making us curly girls cry for decades.

MikeUniformMike · 31/07/2018 12:47

I have had quite a bad cut in Toni & Guy.
I wouldn't go there again.

MrsJonesAndMe · 31/07/2018 15:47

My DD had an awful cut there too! We'll never go back not that I took her in the first place

Icouldbehappy · 31/07/2018 16:18

I hope you get it sorted! I had highlights recently which were orange on the regrowth, silver on the rest, then dark where the roots where! Hairdresser (been going to her for years though there had been a couple of times where I felt this happened) took money off.

It was still a fortune !! She said to give it a few days and see what I thought. Basically, she said it wouldn’t lift any more because of my hormones! Shock
A couple of days later I sent her pics and begged her to fix it. Long story short, she said she couldn’t and I’d need to go darker. She offered me my money back which I reluctantly took as I had wanted to go in and sit and talk with her.
So disappointed as I felt she wanted rid of me and I knew her really well, we got on really well and she knows way too much about me Hmm
I found a salon near me and they’ve more or less sorted it.
It does go a bit yellowish so I use purple shampoo on it and that works.
Oh and thanks to the poster who recommends that towel, I’ve just ordered one Grin

myknickersknackersknockers · 31/07/2018 16:35

It’s shocking how many people have had a terrible experience at Toni and Guy! I’m another person and have thick straight hair. Asked for a trim and a few layers in my past the shoulder length hair and ended up with a lop sided bob!!!! Perhaps their head office need a link to this thread!

Zintox · 31/07/2018 16:42

You need to call back. Say that having thought about it you want a refund because it’s such a bad cut you don’t trust them to cut your hair again and need to go to a different salon. Be firm. Escalate to head office if necessary.

NameChangeUni · 31/07/2018 17:03

I go to Toni & Guy - but my desired hair style is basic (trim, root tint and toner as I’m growing it out). So I although suppose that you can’t really go wrong with my hair, I do really like my stylists!

I think the problem is Toni & Guy is a stepping stone position for stylists - once they get more skilled/experience and build up clientele, they start looking for a better position at another salon or freelancing full time and starting a business. So as their best stylists are always leaving and changing, chances are the person doing your hair isn’t that experienced unless you go to a manager. So it can be hit and miss to find someone decent.

However I wouldn’t really class OP’s hair as curly? At all? Wavy perhaps. I would say curly hair has defined ringlets, to the point where you have a significant length difference when curly vs straight. The cut does look awful though. I would insist on a refund as it will ALWAYS be awkward if you go back to that salon in the future! I doubt the manager will become your holy grail stylist, it will just be awkward
