To go back to the salon and ask for my hair to be re-done?

So I went into a National hair salon for a wash cut with a senior stylist a few days ago. I specifically asked for someone with knowledge of my hair type and was advised this Is the lady to help. I was specific in saying I need a cut that will work with me just washing it and letting it air dry. I don’t have time for drying it straight and styling daily. The stylist said she could do this and took a fair amount off the length- not a problem as I expected it. When she finished the cut she suggested blowing drying it straight as I’m in the saloon, I agreed. I didn’t get to see the cut and how it will dry naturally as a result and I’ve since washed and air dried it at home and it looks awful! Really ragged and like it’s a mop! Do I have grounds to go back and asked for it to be redone?

Go to Unruly curls in Ladbroke Grove if you can. They are amazing. Revitalised my dayghter’s aimless semi- Afro

PookieDo · 29/07/2018 22:47

This is why DD and I always refuse blow dry because I have thick wavy hair and she has long curly hair. I need to see if it is practical left to air dry

I have had a few mullets given to me in my time
I think your haircut has no real shape to it, also what did they do to the front?!!

PookieDo · 29/07/2018 22:49

Oh and hairbrushes are the devils tools for curly or wavy hair! So for those saying just brush it Shock

chicola · 29/07/2018 22:54

I knew it would be them too.

They fucked my hair up last time u went there (15 years ago)

Cost £££ and I cried for days. Couldn't even get it fixed as there was no hair left.

slithytove · 29/07/2018 22:55

Yes, curly hair needs a dry cut, individual curl by curl

Muncheys I would question your ability to deliver a decent cut to a curly girl when you talk about applying product and styling in the salon.

slithytove · 29/07/2018 22:57

And yes, no ‘poo, no ‘cones, no brushing for my particular curly girl. Dreading taking her to the hairdressers in the not too distant future.
Anyone know a decent deva curl salon in NW?

Eliza9917 · 29/07/2018 22:57

I don't think you can just wash and go with frizzy curly/wavy hair. It will always look a mess unless you use products. Not at that lentgh anyway. It needs to be in a bob to look half decent imo.

PookieDo · 29/07/2018 23:01

I wash my own hair then go to the salon where she damp cuts it. DD also does the same. It’s not at all very wet by that point and drying but more pliable. The only reason hairdressers wet your hair is because 1. They charge more for a fancy wash and 2. It’s easier for them to comb through it when it’s wet. If a hairdresser does not like me refusing a hair wash then I never go back to them. I know neither of our hair looks anything like it does wet vs dry and damp is as far as I will go!

Guiltypleasures001 · 29/07/2018 23:02

I have wavey to curly hair, and I use an Afro comb after washing then either leave it or use a diffuser to dry.

I had to grow mine out for 18 months, just to get it back to one length all over again

PookieDo · 29/07/2018 23:03

No you can have wavy hair wash and go - I do. I do not blow dry or straighten mine. I condition it well and let it air dry naturally. A good hairdresser will not give you stupid short layers with waves or curls

slithytove · 29/07/2018 23:04

eliza you can if you do the curly girl method and really commit to it

My daughters hair is elbow length and beautiful, silky defined curls. We damp it with a silicone free conditioner spray in the morning, scrunch and finger combo - it dries stunning.

If it’s brushed it’s a dry frizzy mess.

PookieDo · 29/07/2018 23:07

you need to ask around people you know in your area - maybe ask on Facebook? I found my hairdresser through a friend. She works in a small family owned salon and has 25 years experience.

crazycatgal · 29/07/2018 23:10

You need to ask for a refund and go to a salon that knows what they're doing.

Wowzel · 29/07/2018 23:12

Toni and Guy in Camden butchered my hair once - it had chunks missing and wasn't straight. I cried all the way home.

Hope you get your hair sorted out ok.

NordicNobody · 29/07/2018 23:14

This is the kind of length/ style I have with my hair. I wash it twice a week, spray in some leave in conditioner and rake a bit of curling moose through with my fingers. Give it a shake and let it air dry. The entire washing and styling process takes about 10 minutes and the curl holds well between washes. If it goes a bit flat I tousle some water through with my fingers to make it a bit damp and then just let it air dry again. Would recommend 🙂

To go back to the salon and ask for my hair to be re-done?
PookieDo · 29/07/2018 23:17

Mine is long but this is no product (except a good conditioner) no heat and a lovely hairdresser

To go back to the salon and ask for my hair to be re-done?
NEFink · 29/07/2018 23:18

Im not sure I would go back. I would ring them, but I wouldnt want them near me again Sad

poochuspoochus · 29/07/2018 23:22

Another wavy/curly haired person here who has a terrible toni and guy haircut!

gildashairflick · 29/07/2018 23:36

@Harmonyrays I'm going next week having last visited in February. I have to wait until work takes me to the Midlands otherwise I couldn't afford it. Can't wait as I'm definitively overdue a cut. I've not found a hairdresser yet other than Spring who can cut curly or wavy hair properly

Doidontimmm · 29/07/2018 23:46

@Muncheys this is not true. We work with a few Toni & Guy Salons delivering national qualifications. However, a lot of Toni & Guy Salons are Franchisees so have bought into the brand and that seems to be where it all goes wrong. We have refused to work with some of them. I would suggest if you get no luck with the salon that you contact their head office to complain. They rely on the name & can’t afford for their Franchises to balls up like this.

Harmonyrays · 30/07/2018 03:20

Thanks to all, really helpful. And thanks to those sharing pics. I knew it wasn’t right but don’t think I feel confident to let them near it again. I’ll aim for a refund and see if I can get to a curly hair specialist. I’ll try to update when I sort it!

I had an issue with T&G last year with some shocking highlights - when my usual lady wasn’t available. Dreadful and I cried also. Ended up going back to see my regular lady who sorted it out and I also refused to pay as it was so shocking. They’re obliged to sort it out if you’re not happy but agree it’s hard to go back when they’ve buggered it up in the first place. Hope you get it sorted somewhere OP.

Piggywaspushed · 30/07/2018 07:44

Am I the only person whose hair is less curly when it dries naturally??

I absoluetly have to blow dry mine with a diffuser. And this is what the salons always cock up!
