AIBU to think that driving home by 330pm after a night drinking is a reasonable ask?

AIBU to think that having a night drinking with your friends and then getting home about 330pm in the afternoon ( 1 hour drive) is a reasonable ask? Or is it unrealistic?

So someone is drinking all night then driving the next day? Do you literally mean ALL night?

afreshnewname · 29/07/2018 21:02

Why does it matter what time you’re home? If you don’t need to be in work or anything why is there restrictions on how you spend your time? Unless it’s every week and it’s always the same person out and the same one stuck at home with the kids

InspectorIkmen · 29/07/2018 21:04

Who is asking and why? Confused

IceCreamFace · 29/07/2018 21:07

Surely it depends if you were still steaming drunk at 7am then you might not be fit to drive by then. I think after a normal night out it would be fine though.

AbsentmindedWoman · 29/07/2018 21:12

You need to allow plenty of time for the alcohol to clear your system.

booniloo · 29/07/2018 21:15

I think it depends on how much you were drinking over the course of the night and what time you drank until. I've definitely had nights where I didn't feel like I could drive the whole of the next day.

Mari50 · 29/07/2018 21:16

Depends how much you had to drink the night before to be honest.
I live in Scotland and wouldn’t attempt to drive until I felt absolutely back to normal due to our strict drink driving limits.
An hours drive with a hangover can be quite a task as well, so quite possibly YABU

FeralBeryl · 29/07/2018 21:16

Is this your partner refusing to drive home after a bender?
It really depends on units consumed, time stopped drinking etc. No one can say whether YABU or not without that info. But sympathies if you've had to hold the fort all day whilst he nurses a hangover in peace.

restingbemusedface · 29/07/2018 21:20

Drippy drip drip 💧

tink09 · 29/07/2018 21:22

I think it depends on a lot of factors. I was shocked at how many people were convincted for drink driving from drinking the night before. I don’t drive the next day if I’ve had a session, it’s not worth the risk.

This will give you an idea on the AIBU.

userabcname · 29/07/2018 21:23

It depends on how much alcohol was consumed and what time the drinker stopped drinking. I once over-indulged and couldn't get myself to the train station for 3pm the next day as I felt so awful (I was staying with a friend for the weekend). Luckily DH took pity on me (it was the first and only time I've ever got in such a state) and drove 3 hours to pick me up and bring me home.

hooochycoo · 29/07/2018 21:36

it's the drinker's choice how much alcohol they consume and what time they stop drinking. I guess my question is whether it's unreasonable to think that you can have a good night out, stop drinking, go to sleep and drive back safely by 330pm.

OP posts:
KatharinaRosalie · 29/07/2018 21:38

It's even possible to have a good night out and drive home by 3.30AM.

ShirleyPhallus · 29/07/2018 21:40

Would you just tell us what the actual situation is cos then posters can advise better?

ADishBestEatenCold · 29/07/2018 21:42

"I guess my question is whether it's unreasonable to think that you can have a good night out, stop drinking, go to sleep and drive back safely by 330pm."

Too many variables to answer.

More information. For example, if the drinking will take place at an event, what time will the event finish (and so on)?

Redken24 · 29/07/2018 21:43

Usually leave car at friends or home and would probably not drive a good 16 hours after stopping drinking.
Strict laws here in Scotland. No way would I risk it.
I usually get a taxi home tho at like 2😂

Aeroflotgirl · 29/07/2018 21:45

No you can't, I just did my driving theory test, and one of the questions was related to this. It takes 48 hours frim the time somebody stops drinking, for the effects of the alcohol to wear off. Don't risk people's lives.

kaytee87 · 29/07/2018 21:56

We're in Scotland, I don't drink much but if my husband had had a big night out then he'd either not drive at all the next day or at least not until the evening if he had to.
However it is perfectly possible to have a few drinks, have a lovely time and be fit to drive the next day.

gandalf456 · 29/07/2018 21:59

What time did you stop and how much did you drink? As a rule, I would say yes unless you were drinking much past 12 and it was shots

Cherubfish · 29/07/2018 22:03

It depends on lots of things, OP. How often does this happen (if it's very rare then more likely to let the person get back whenever they want to), what's the thing they need to be back for at 3.30, do you also get a chance to go out late drinking when you fancy it, etc etc.

LockedOutOfMN · 29/07/2018 22:06

I don't drive but if we had a big night out we wouldn't get home until 9am ish so I don't think it would be safe for anyone to start driving home just 5 hours later. That said, if they needed to be somewhere they could take public transport or a cab.

It's unreasonable not to be home by a certain time if that had been the plan, but in general there's nothing wrong with sleeping off a big, late night and taking it easy the next day and there's everything wrong with drink driving.

TigerDroveAgain · 29/07/2018 22:07

If you/they started drinking at 6pm and wanted to drive at 2pm then as long as you/they don’t have more than 20 units, which is around 6-7 pints, you/they would probably be ok. It depends what you mean by a night out: how much and when.

wibblywobblyfish · 29/07/2018 22:42

I've got breathalysers in the cupboard from a recent trip to France (you have to have them in the car) I think if I was in your situation I would be tempted to check using one of them.

locochat · 29/07/2018 23:32

What time does the good night out's drinking stop?

heatherblue · 29/07/2018 23:38

What time would they have to set off?
