Smelly people

We have new people in our church and they absolutely stink to high heavens. Excuse the pun.
While I really wouldn’t want to discourage them from coming, AIBU to think that the Pastor’s wife should take them aside for a quiet word? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Back from church, they weren’t there tonight.
Glint: seems like you have a bad cold with that drip drip. Do you need a hanky?

Maisypops: yes it’s ok for people who don’t come into contact with someone who has a bad smell to comment saying leave them alone. I wonder how they would deal with it.

Whenisnapped: they spend the money on tobacco, cans, and energy drinks

It’shot: what you said is right, the gagging is a natural reaction I really wish I didn’t have. Particularly when I have to pick up my doggies poo while on walks. It’s awful I wretch my insides up most days. My choice to have dogs i know so I wonder who will be the first on here to say I shouldn’t have dogs but I have them for my daughter.

Wickedwitch: I can assure you there’s nothing dodgy about my Pastor he is of exemplary character and that’s one of the reasons we all asked him to step up as Pastor, so not self appointed after all!

Stripper: sorry to hear of your bad experience in your new church. That would never happen in ours as we have people at the entrance welcoming everyone, then when the meeting ends we are encouraged to go and speak to someone we haven’t seen there before. Something your new church might like to try.

I opened a thread a while ago about her borrowing money and not paying it back. Some of you may remember.
Everyone said they wouldn’t lend her any more money until she paid it back.
Well a few days later I confronted her about the £10 and she said she thought she’d paid it back. Well softie that I am did lend her another £10 stressing the point that I really needed the money back on time and fp she gives it back on time every week when she says she will.

...and who said I’m a Christian anyway, I could be going to a humanist church!
So quick to bad mouth Christians and religious people. Now whose judging.

Bad mouth ? Trust me, if I bad mouthed you you would know.
I am a Christian so .. pah.

This is one of the reasons why people who may want to go to church are too frightened to.

Because of the smell?

Maisymoo22 · 29/07/2018 23:36

Leesa65
Oh dear, should I be afraid 😱

Why were people so quick to suspect the Op of presuming it's a wonans role to speak to smelly family. It's just typical paranoia, ready to jump down someone's threat before the full details are known. As soon as i read the Op about the pastors wife I knew the thread would get sidetracked with the typical "why the wife and not the pastor" type posts. As the Op said, it was to do with the fact that's she's the tactful one, rather than the pastor. Something that i'd presumed myself.

I was asked to speak to someone in my playgroup about personal hygiene. She wore Saris, which is relevant because I'm not sure how easy they are to wash. There was lots of embroidery and pretty fabrics involved. The smell was BO and curry.

I listened carefully to the ones complaining, watched the group and discovered that most people were happy to talk to her, and decided to leave it alone. The person complaining had choices.

In this case in particular, I preferred speaking to the whiffy lady than the one who complained about her.

I know where you are coming from. There's a family at our church who smell of chip fat oil. I think every meal is fried. The mother smokes as well so it's very obvious when they come into church as the small hits you first.

We just move.

CambridgeAnaglypta · 30/07/2018 10:04

*smell

Deadheadstickeronacadillac · 30/07/2018 13:01

@ProfessorMoody re religious humanists being batshit...very well said!

user1472651064 · 30/07/2018 16:32

YANBU as you know they can afford to do better. They should be told. It's not acceptable for them to inflict their poor standards on others. If you don't (as an adult) wash daily then you smell.

TornFromTheInside · 30/07/2018 20:26

I don't know that hygiene is necessarily a function of wealth.
Having money can still result in someone neglecting themselves.

delphguelph · 30/07/2018 20:30

Anyone else finding this thread hilarious?

TornFromTheInside · 30/07/2018 20:34

Not really. Quite sad actually.

mimibunz · 30/07/2018 20:36

Not my fault I have a weak stomach and sensitive nose Do go away, OP. I’m judging you so hard right now. Being a church goer has done you no good at all.

LeftRightCentre · 30/07/2018 20:41

Oh, you again. How about you create your own church for your weak stomach and insensitive nose?
