Water bills

Aibu to ask how much you pay monthly for water bills? In south east and paying around £65 a month on a meter. Is this too much? I would say we are pretty careful with water use.

Cotswold border we were paying £35-45 on meter (and we were apparently high users) but now on fixed rate and paying £51 a month. Your bill sounds quite high!

Ours is around £300-350 every six months for two adults and a toddler.

The flat we lived in before our daughter was born had a faulty water meter that only charged us £10-15 a month. I rang up twice in the first year to let the water company know we were being undercharged, and they said they’d fix it, but they never did. For a while I felt guilty paying so little but I reasoned I’d done my bit by telling them! I was quite nervous when we moved out that they’d realise and send us a massive bill for back payment, but thankfully that never happened.

£33 on a metre for two adults in east of England. Now have no metre in another house and it's us two still and we pay £46. Have a dishwasher now though and like baths so happy not being on a metre!

TeenagersandFurbabies · 28/07/2018 18:50

£88 per month metered bill we are a family of 4 that live in Devon.

snozzlemaid · 28/07/2018 19:14

Makes me weep to see how little most of you are paying.

GOODCAT · 28/07/2018 19:19

£12 per month on a meter but only 2 adults.

bellabasset · 28/07/2018 19:26

Cornwall Unmetered water would be around £65:00 pcm ie £780:00 annually. I have a meter and use less than £200 annually for me. My NDN are 5.

I changed to a meter mid 2011 when the bill was £625 annually. I was widowed in 2004.

snozzlemaid · 28/07/2018 19:28

We're a family of 4 adults and I've just done an online test to see how much we would pay if on a water meter and it's still coming out at £900 a year for us. So no point in changing then.

ChristinaMarlowe · 28/07/2018 19:32

Just got our quarterly bill, 2 adults and a 5 year old, two bedroom house on a meter £92.76 in Devon.

Someaddedsugar · 28/07/2018 19:37

@Goingovertosusanshouse have you asked your water company whether they have any advice such as a water saving kit? We had a water audit from our water company and they gave us some free kits to save more water and also identified our toilet leaking (not sure what was leaking exactly) which has saved us money in the long run.

Just under £70 month, there's four of us, each shower every day. Washing mach on twice a day, water garden frequent, on meter - n. York's

Haberpop · 28/07/2018 19:47

We are in the East England pay about £120 a year but we are not paying for sewage and are not on a meter.

Wateroffaduck · 28/07/2018 19:48

United utilities, not on a meter £75 a month, 3 bed house

SazCat · 28/07/2018 19:51

£20 a month on a meter, 2 adults and 1 baby in Staffordshire.

Our previous home until 2014 was not on a meter and this was £36 paid over 8 months, so not that much difference.

From speaking to friends in Cheshire and South, ours seems quite a bit cheaper.

ineedmoresleepnow · 28/07/2018 21:00

North West, five bed house teo adults two kids, with garden and we pay £27 a month on rates. Dread to think what it would be on meter

Floralnomad · 28/07/2018 21:03

We are SE , family of 4 all 18+ about £45 per month metered . We are not particularly careful with water .

SevenOf1981 · 28/07/2018 21:03

I'm finding this a bit strange. We have a meter, but have just had our monthly charge reduced to £5. I'm hoping it's not a mistake as we are careful with water.
We're just outside London and have one toddler...

3boysandabump · 28/07/2018 21:18

Family of 5 in the north east and we pay £55 per Month.
Was way cheaper when we had a meter (£27) but I haven't got round to sorting it since we moved.
If you have 3 or more dc there is a cap to how much you can be charged if you're on a water meter.

feeona123 · 28/07/2018 21:26

Berks 3 bed house 2 adults and 2 little kids £32 a month

TheShapeOfEwe · 28/07/2018 21:27

xxconfusedxx · 28/07/2018 21:30

AliTheMinx · 28/07/2018 21:36

£66 per month in the West Country. We are a family of 3. I shower every morning and so does my husband. Our DS has a bath every night. Washing machine and dishwasher both on several times a week.

flamingox · 28/07/2018 21:42

£36 a month - 3 bed in NW. not metered.

sparklepops123 · 28/07/2018 21:43

Shape of ewe , do you not get charged at all ? 😱

JJXM · 28/07/2018 21:45

We pay just under £32, family of five, on a meter. But we’re on the Watersure scheme which caps the meter charge in line with average use for the area. All water companies offer the scheme if you meet the criteria (low income plus heavy water usage - so most means tested benefits which includes DLA/PIP as well as a medical condition which needs lots of water or 3 children under the age of 19 living at home). The scheme is only available to water meter users but you could be paying less on rates so it’s best to compare both.
