To wonder if we don’t have a hard right issue - but an authoritarian issue.

Please forgive the crappy diagram it’s trying to show how I’m looking at political parties at the moment.

Libertarian / Anarchism

I’m so used to thinking of politics from a left / right view. I kind of miss out the authoritarian/ libertarian view.

It just seems to me that both the main political parties are moving towards more authoritarian policies. Authoritarian as in the enforcement or advocacy of strict obedience to authority at the expense of personal freedom. Such as the creation of a hostile environment and the Windrush scandal.

Feels like there is far less pluralism. Different political factions are less able to tolerate each other’s different points of view. This lack of decent discussion results in people becoming utterly entrenched in their own viewpoint. Utterly refusing to accept any view other than their own.

Politics has become so emotionally charged with rational decision making taking a back seat.

I’m a classic wishy washy liberal. This lurch towards authoritarianism alarms me and I’m utterly homeless politically.

AIBU to think it’s not just about right and left in politics. This lurch towards authoritarianism is really scary.
