To wonder if I'm feeling shit because of the antibiotics or the tonsillitis?

Not an aibu really, I just feel shit and miserable and wondering how long I have to put up with this before I start to feel better!

I've been to the doctors and given antibiotics for the tonsillitis, I didn't have a temperature at the time but since I've started taking them I've developed one, my throat is worse (sore) and my joints and limbs are aching really bad. I hurt all over.

Aibu to think this is just the antibiotics starting to take hold and it will be better by tomorrow when I have to start and 8 day straight stint at work *cries

I'm on day 2 of antibiotics for mine (my sympathies, it's awful) and today I definitely feel more human..temp has gone down and I can swallow without wanting to cry, tho it still hurts. I'd had a fever for several days though so it might be burning out naturally.

Fingers crossed you start to perk up tomorrow but I REALLY don't think you should be trying to go to work.. tonsititis is nasty!

I don't think I have much choice sadly, they are short staffed as it is and if I'm not in over the busy weekend they will be seriously pissed off. Just have to suck it up Sad

I wouldn't go to work, you will feel weak, how long have you been on antibiotics. Its the infection making you have a temperature and feeling rotten, in this heat you need to be resting, drinking lots of fluids.

sharkirasharkira · 26/07/2018 19:55

Just starting taking them today. Think I've had 2 doses so far. I felt far better before I took them!

It hurts to swallow Sad

I really want some pineapple juice and ice lollies but don't feel well enough to go and get any. My ears are ringing and I can't sleep. Hate being ill!

Tonsillitis used to wipe me out for up to ten days. The first 4 days made me feel like I'd been beaten head to toe with a cricket bat and my throat pretty much closed up meaning I had to have children's penicillin liquid as I couldn't swallow pills. I had them removed aged about 22.

Don't underestimate how shite you can feel with it as an adult! Huge sympathies.

Gargle with soluble aspirin - it tastes marginally better than paracetamol. Numbing throat sprays can be bought over the counter in a chemist now.

Can anyone do a quick shop for you?

ShirleyPhallus · 26/07/2018 20:15

Christ do not go to work if you have tonsillitis!

Hope you feel better soon

Isleepinahedgefund · 26/07/2018 20:30

I used to get tonsillitis all the time, and I recall that I did feel worse before I got better when I took anti b’s. Think for the first two days I felt worse then started to feel better.

If you can get some Difflam spray (preferable) or rinse from the pharmacy honestly that stuff is a godsend, kills the throat pain dead.

Whilst I understand you feel you have to go to work, if you’re feeling that bad you might make yourself very much more ill though. Chances are if you go in you’ll need to go home anyway.

I had the little buggers removed eventually!

Massive sympathy! Tonsillitis is the pits.

In terms of antibiotics, they do take 2 to 3 days to start making you feel better. Remember to keep taking fluids in, and take painkillers regularly.
I second gargling aspirin.
