Not to go to the gym in this heat?

loveka · 26/07/2018 15:42

I am normally so disciplined. I go 4 times a week, do a mixture of Zumba, Pilates, cardio, aerobic etc.

I just can't be bothered in this heat. I went twice last week and it was just unpleasant.
There is air conditioning but it is still really hot .

I couldn't face Zumba this morning, I usually love it.

I'm a bit worried I'm on a slippery slope to breaking the habit though.

What are other people doing?

I've mostly stopped everything in this heat. A few cardio/aerobics videos at home and a bit of yoga, but not very much at all. I figure I'll be more likely to quit completely by forcing myself to do something I'm hating, rather than just waiting until its more fun again when it's cooler.

Nancydrawn · 26/07/2018 15:44

Swim! Excellent exercise; no need for a/c. Find a local pool and treat it with the same discipline you do the gym.

Lottapianos · 26/07/2018 15:45

I've been going as normal but sweating like a pig. There is air con in my gym but it's not up to much and it's roasting as soon as you get any kind of sweat on. It's gross at the time but I feel great after. Thst said, nothing wrong with taking the odd break from working out

Jkoakham · 26/07/2018 15:47

No, keep on going but do something different. Have you a lido?

TheShapeOfEwe · 26/07/2018 15:47

I'm still going running because I have a half marathon coming up Shock but it's bloody difficult and unpleasant in this heat. Make sure you're drinking plenty - more than you think you need to! - if you do go.

beargrass · 26/07/2018 15:48

Going for a run but really early in the day. If I can't leave by 7am, I don't go!

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 26/07/2018 15:49

I can’t even go for a walk. I’m the fattest I’ve ever been because I can’t move and all I’m eating is picky food and ice cream. I’ll sort it out when it’s colder.

Nothisispatrick · 26/07/2018 15:49

I went to an aqua class today, it was great!

NicoAndTheNiners · 26/07/2018 15:50

I’m still going to the gym, with the air con when I get there it’s never as bad as I think it will be.

MagentaRocks · 26/07/2018 15:53

I did a session with my PT yesterday. It was awful. No air con either but I need to keep going or I will break the habit.

Blobby10 · 26/07/2018 15:55

Just like I've done for the past few years, I get up at 5,15am and head straight for the gym. However its warm even then to run the half mile there and I dont need the fleece I have to take so I can carry my card and gloves and keys in the pockets Grin. Gym has air con so the weight training I do isn't too bad. Couldn't bear to go after work though!!

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 26/07/2018 16:06

I'm also gym avoiding right now. Gym is usually cooler first thing but it's so hot outside and my gym doesn't have air con so I can't even think about it without swearing.

Currently hula hooping whilst mning with a fan on me full blast to make up for it!

Liffydee · 26/07/2018 16:09

I’ve been forcing myself because I need to loose a few stone and I know if I have days off that will be it and I will give up. It’s vile though Sad

loveka · 26/07/2018 16:18

I would love a swim, I really would. Our local pool is hell on earth in the holidays though.

No lido sadly.

Next year I will be living by the sea. Wish I was now.

I'm doing c25k and running late in the evening but it's getting silly. 9.30 last night and still a sweaty mess when I got home.

luckycat007 · 26/07/2018 17:00

I agree it's pretty bad. I'm in a budget chain and some of them could do with sorting the air con. And turning down the shitty music 🤪😬

Fucketbucket13 · 26/07/2018 17:03

I went spinning last week which was fine because of air con.
I run which I'm still doing. Monday i went at 8.30 am yesterday at 1.30 I sweat like you would not believe but I'm determined to become acclimatised!
It's flipping hard running in this heat but easier than those long dreary winter runs, well...

EdWinchester · 26/07/2018 17:07

It’s ok at my gym as it’s air conditioned. Classes are just as packed as always.

Not running outside though - can’t face it.

Lottapianos · 26/07/2018 17:27

'And turning down the shitty music'

I agree!

EvaHarknessRose · 26/07/2018 17:29

My gym is bliss, air conditioned, and I find sweating helps somehow. I swim too.

NewtoOLD · 26/07/2018 17:58

Have scaled back ( similar schedule to you ) as just not getting decent sleep etc and it's just too hot ...

luckycat007 · 26/07/2018 18:06

@Lottapianos glad it's not only me 😆

I'm not a member or a DL or any of those but you would think for the amount they charge they would be keeping the air con up.

crispysausagerolls · 26/07/2018 18:13

My usual exercise is walking the dog for 1-2 hours a day. Obviously that’s gone completely out of the window! Also have a newborn so no way in hell he can come out in this heat too, so DH taking dog at 6am and I’m lazing around all day. Not going to help with shifting baby weight 😭😭😭

cariadlet · 26/07/2018 18:13

I haven't been for a few weeks, because I was getting hot and sweaty before I'd even done anything. I was going to go for a run this morning instead, but didn't wake up until 7.30 and it was already too hot.

Can't wait for this heatwave to end.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 26/07/2018 20:11

I'm still going; but today it was dead - I think most people have stopped.
