To ask how to clean a burnt pan?

Wise mnetters please help. My son has burnt rice (!) onto my favourite stainless steel saucepan. Both inside and outside on the bottom. He's scrubbed, soaked and scrubbed again to no avail. Any ideas?

Would these suggestions also work for a casserole dish?

captainpantbeard · 27/07/2018 13:45

*cast iron as opposed to glass

MalcolmsBrokenWalrusMoneybox · 27/07/2018 13:49

Bicarb! I "saved" a pan with it, not too sure what I did though - probably made a paste with water and bicarb and let it stand for a bit before scrubbing (I'm clearly a writer of technical manuals).

MalcolmsBrokenWalrusMoneybox · 27/07/2018 13:51

I mean spread the paste on the burnt bit, not leave the paste standing doing nowt useful.

MagicFajita · 27/07/2018 13:52

I've rescued many burnt pans by boiling then simmering a can of tinned tomatoes for 10-15 mins , just give a gentle scrub with the rough half of a sponge afterwards.

Cooking rhubarb works, but it's expensive and you have to chuck it out. (Obv no sugar, or apples - just water.)

Leave the coke in the pan a while it should come off with a wipe

antsinthejam · 27/07/2018 16:46

Oven cleaner, the spray on mr muscle type stuff. Restores to new.

InternalGangsta · 02/08/2018 08:46

Sorry I forgot to come back to update before! I simmered the coke for over an hour then left it for 24 hours and it worked! Thanks everyone
