To ask how to clean a burnt pan?

InternalGangsta · 25/07/2018 12:16

Wise mnetters please help. My son has burnt rice (!) onto my favourite stainless steel saucepan. Both inside and outside on the bottom. He's scrubbed, soaked and scrubbed again to no avail. Any ideas?

I was going to say try soap powder too. I gave a sports bra a much needed soak in Napisan and hot water yesterday and used a pan to keep it submerged and the base is gleaming!

SoftBlocks · 25/07/2018 15:40

Boil water for an hour with slices of lemon. More expensive than vinegar but smells nicer.

Confusedbeetle · 25/07/2018 15:43

Tobe, no I think the non-stick lining will be done for. Not too expensive to replace I wouldn't have thought

squirrelnutkins1 · 25/07/2018 15:49

Just pop some water in and put it back on a low heat on the hob. Best tip we've ever gotten!

DrCoconut · 25/07/2018 16:21

Cheap dishwasher tablet dissolved in warm water and left to soak.

CoralFish · 25/07/2018 16:34

Vinegar, pan on the heat until bubbling, scrape off the burnt with a silicon (or other non-metal) utensil, soak again and wash.

soloula · 25/07/2018 18:04

Soap powder in water, bring to the boil and turn off and leave for an hour or so. Washes right off, no scraping needed.

tobee · 25/07/2018 18:20

Thank you, @Confusedbeetle. That's what I thought. Get myself down to the supermarket I think!

phlebasconsidered · 25/07/2018 18:33

Soak for a bit then scrunch up tin foil and scrub with that. Gets anything off. Not on a nonstick pan though!

FrozenMargarita17 · 25/07/2018 18:36

I used vinegar and baking soda and it cleaned it right up!

InternalGangsta · 26/07/2018 17:06

Thanks everyone! So I tried soaking it overnight in bio washing powder. The outside is mostly clean and the inside so so. Then I tried putting the washing powder in with some water and boiling- managed to scrape a bit more off. Will buy some coke and try that next....

Water in the pan, ADD soda crystals, bring to the boil. Or rub with *bicarb and white vinegar

Steradent , bio washing powder are all good for removing tea stains

*How's this for autocorrect - vicar and vinegar instead of bicarb and vinegar

posieperkinandpootle · 26/07/2018 17:20

I once burned lentils and stuck the pan outside to get the smoke/smell away & promptly forgot about it. It was winter & frosty and when I remembered next morning the frozen burnt lentils came clean out. I keep thinking if I burn something that badly again I'd put the pot in the freezer to check it wasn't a fluke but so far I haven't had to.

Lonelynessie · 26/07/2018 17:25

Yep, get the Cola on it, works a treat.

ALongHardWinter · 26/07/2018 17:37

Sex lube and a fish slice. Grin Seriously,I've found that adding some biological washing powder to very hot water and soaking it in that for several hours,or preferably overnight, usually does the trick.

InternalGangsta · 26/07/2018 20:30

That's what I did first winter! Maybe I should forget about the pan and just go for the sex lube and fish slice...

Dishwasher tablet or powder heat up and then and leave to soak overnight

DownAtFraggleRock · 26/07/2018 20:41

good old brillo pad?

OnlyTheWelshCanCwtch · 26/07/2018 21:28

Bio laundry powder/liquid, add water, bring to boil on hob and simmer 5 mins, take off heat, lid on pan and leave overnight, will all just wipe off in morning

keyboardkate · 26/07/2018 21:36

Why did DS not do all that stuff that you are doing now?

Off with his head I say!

If it doesn't work out, buy a new pot or a rice cooker. Deduct from his allowance. Lesson learned.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 26/07/2018 21:41

Rhubarb boiled in a bit of water works - for the non stick variety anyway.

InternalGangsta · 27/07/2018 13:05

Keyboard if only! To be fair he has done all the scrubbing and I've been trying to encourage him to cook different things and to just have a go so maybe it's my own fault!!
So I've soaked it in coke now so let's see...

OP posts:
Bluelady · 27/07/2018 13:07

Coke, heated gently.

PurpleTigerLove · 27/07/2018 13:26

Steel wool

InternalGangsta · 27/07/2018 13:28

So coke has been simmering for 15 mins and has done nothing! How long should it take?
