To ask how to clean a burnt pan?

Wise mnetters please help. My son has burnt rice (!) onto my favourite stainless steel saucepan. Both inside and outside on the bottom. He's scrubbed, soaked and scrubbed again to no avail. Any ideas?

Soak in bio laundry powder or vanish 😁

Babymamamama · 25/07/2018 12:20

I would boil it gently with water and a squirt of washing up liquid. Should remove the residue but watch it so the pan doesn't boil over.

MoMandaS · 25/07/2018 12:20

Was coming on to say Vanish! But boil some water in the pan and add Vanish to it, then let simmer for a couple of minutes before turning off heat and leaving to cool.

HeyMacWey · 25/07/2018 12:21

Bio powder overnight.
Or put it on the hob with a little water and heat it up (as if you were deglazing a pan) this works has worked for me before.

InternalGangsta · 25/07/2018 12:26

Thanks! I'm off to soak it in laundry powder ( I don't have any vanish) so hopefully it will work on the burnt bits outside as well as in....

I've found filling with vinegar and leaving to soak works.

MargoLovebutter · 25/07/2018 12:38

Fill the pan to just over the level of the burnt area with water. Add a handful of salt (really loads). Bring to the boil and then leave to cool down for a few hours. Burnt stuff should scrape away easily.

UpstartCrow · 25/07/2018 12:39

O2 laundry powder bleach also works; add a scoop, fill with hot water and soak for 24 hours.

kikashi · 25/07/2018 12:42

Soak it for a few days and use a stainless steel scrubber to remove the black burn marks. You mat have to repeat a few times.

strawbmilk · 25/07/2018 12:46

Try soaking with a Milton steriliser tablet. Always works for me x

fourquenelles · 25/07/2018 12:49

Old wives' remedy - turn it upside down on grass overnight.

divadee · 25/07/2018 12:50

Full fat coke to cover the burns and then boil it slowly and let it simmer for about 10 mins.

WooYa · 25/07/2018 12:50

I boi about a table spoon of bicarbonate soda and a cup of water. It brings it right up when DH 'cooks' rice

LuxuryWoman2018 · 25/07/2018 13:06

Simmer cola, it'll come up like new.

Nanny0gg · 25/07/2018 13:09

Any biological washing liquid. Just soak for a few hours.

xJessica · 25/07/2018 13:11

Bicarbonate of soda, salt, washing up liquid and water and boil it for a little while

tobee · 25/07/2018 13:12

Help! I've done similar but to a non stick pan. In a holiday rental! Can I save it?

5foot5 · 25/07/2018 13:12

Yup - another one here who came on to say coca cola.

Peachydream · 25/07/2018 13:17

Soda Crystals are my go to- water to cover stains, put crystals in pan and heat on the hob for a while & then leave to soak.

Then again Soda Crystals (& Zoflora) are my go to if all else fails, they get out Hydraulic Oil, clean silver jewelry, drains, washing machine, scrubbing patio furniture etc-

ColinsVeryJolly · 25/07/2018 13:23

The coke trick definitely works

InNeedOfALieInNow · 25/07/2018 13:24

The white magic sponge (for walls or whatever) works amazingly on burnt on food on pans and stoves

Buildabear · 25/07/2018 13:29

Bio washing powder water and bring up a o the boil on the hob

tobee · 25/07/2018 13:57

Does it have to be bio powder and not liquid?

ToadOfSadness · 25/07/2018 14:00

I have:
Soaked in cold salted water, boiled the water, left it so soak again, it floats off but still needs a scrub.
As above, with white vinegar, similar result plus watering eyes.
As above with dishwasher powder, omit the boiling, similar result.

It comes off in the end.

SpandexTutu · 25/07/2018 14:56

Washing powder and water - and boil for an hour or 2.
