To ask what is the point of helplines?

DD was due to fly from London to Florida last week. She arrived at the airport 3 hours before the flight was due, but after waiting 7 hours the flight was cancelled. After spending 4 hours in a queue for BA customer support she phoned me crying because she didn't know what to do i.e try and book another flight/come home.
I phoned the BA helpline but they were absolutely useless, didn't even know the flight was cancelled and didn't help.

But its not just BA it every single helpline I have ever phoned. My mum passed away last year so I am trying to sort out her estate. Phoning building societies helplines is pointless; they don't know what you are suppose to do following bereavement and one even told me they could only talk to the account holder!

Am I just unlucky or are firms helplines just a pretence that they can help?

I feel the same right now.

Had some fraudulent activity on my bank account today and the bank were less than helpful when I spoke to them.

If they think I have a case, they will let me know - geeeee thanks! I think I’ll be looking for another bank.
