Had to take eldest to his volunteering job today - drove past some men putting up scaffolding and in great big letters the company name of C&F Scaffolding. And where I work, there are colleagues who show up as being in CF . In their world I think it's because they work in Core Finance but it's now just so wrong.

So Mumsnet have ruined the letters C and F for me.

What have they "ruined" for you?

Being a MiL - and a step one at that. Evil incarnate x 2.

HushabyeMountainGoat · 24/07/2018 18:51

Feature walls. I bloody love wallpaper

Loo brushes. I still have one but feel a bit grotty about it.

Having background noise in the house. I always like to have the radio or TV on but now I think it makes me seem stupid for not being serene in silence

73kittycat73 · 24/07/2018 19:00

And blue jeans with black boots

Ooh, what's that one all about then? Do tell.

VeryHangryCaterpillar · 24/07/2018 19:01

What are you meant to clean your toilet with if not a loo brush?

CigarsofthePharoahs · 24/07/2018 19:11

Most light romance films. Damn you FWR section and your clever pointing out of all the subtle misogyny. There's a whole lot of films that I can't watch now as they make me angry.
At least I've learned how to spell misogyny. I kept thinking it was mysogeny. Ooops.
Lemon Drizzle Cake. I love this kind of cake, but I always laugh a bit if I'm ever offered some.

EggysMom · 24/07/2018 19:17

I cannot take a glass of water to bed any more, I have to take a water bottle.

RickOShay · 24/07/2018 19:22

Not ever ever letting any of your pets have babies.
You will burn for all eternity.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 24/07/2018 19:22

Didn’t know lemon drizzle (one of the nicest cakes known to human kind) was derided on MN.

The obvious ones are fruit shoots or sausage rolls. But I don’t give too much of a shit these days what the MN consensus is. I used to take note but now I often think it’s a load of pearl clutches getting het up about nothing of great importance. I used to think that was funny and join in the angst or fun-poking but fear i’m getting too old for that type of nonsense.

These days I like the financial threads and boring shit like that! Life is far to short to let MN “ruin things” for you!

Snipples · 24/07/2018 19:23

Hangry ones cleaning lady should pop her marigolded hand down ones loo and sponge it clean rather than have an uncouth toilet brush apparently (we have a loo brush in every loo)

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 24/07/2018 19:29

Cleaning my home!
I work full time. DP is a SAHD, he cooks and does Laundry, DIY and packs each day with activities for our 3 DDs. I do the general cleaning e.g dusting, vacuuming and mopping. This was discussed, I enjoy cleaning and have certain ways etc. But now, when cleaning I always wonder if having a cleaner would be easier!
I never contemplated having a cleaner before! Apparently most people do!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 24/07/2018 19:30

I do have a genuine one though! Buying a pedigree puppy. God, the evil deed that it is! Why wouldn’t I want to buy not only a rescue dog but a rescue dog that has been bred by some fucker for fighting or to be either an badly behaved accessory or a guard dog for their drug dealer owner. Because the only rescue dogs I can find by me seem to be dogs I would run from in a park. But yes, if I want to get a puppy from someone who has loved the breed for years and is very knowledgeable about it, bred for temperament and health and raised them in their house, so that I train and socialise them during their formative time, well, what a bitch I am for wanting to do so when there are so many “charming” dogs waiting in rescue.

I always want to shout “well if people will keep getting them from rescues then irresponsible people will carry on breeding them and abandoning them, knowing full well they can dump them in a rescue and some mimsnetter will go and get one.

Funny that the same people go on to have their own children rather than adopt children who desperately need a home?

And breathe...

Sorry, OP, I know this was meant to be light-hearted but...

WowLookAtYou · 24/07/2018 19:56

Agree about the dogs. And it's even worse if you get a cross-breed cockapoo.

Every single person I know in RL has sourced their dog from the internet. On MN you are hanged, drawn and quartered for even thinking it.

lecossaise · 24/07/2018 19:56

Feminism.

WowLookAtYou · 24/07/2018 19:57

And I run a mental sweep-stake with myself on Doghouse threads as to hell w many posts in it will be before it is suggested that you get a rescue greyhound or staffie, regardless of what breed you prefer.

IsBrexitOverYet · 24/07/2018 20:07

Having a glass/ jug of water next to the bed.

Oh god oh god oh god.... What's the deal about loo brushes?!?! Am now ruined by MN, clearly I must be a slattern of the worst variety! Someone enlighten me!

Jammy dodgers are no longer a friendly offering for a cuppa and a chat Biscuit

AlessandroVasectomi · 25/07/2018 10:09

The views expressed by women on MN echo much of what DW says. You can’t all be wrong, so I’ve concluded she must be right. Humble pie is an acquired taste, but I’m getting used to it.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 25/07/2018 18:45

“And blue jeans with black boots

Ooh, what's that one all about then? Do tell.”

I read on here once upon a time on the S&B threads that you’re supposed to wear brown boots with blue jeans, not black. Now this was some years ago, so the rules may have changed, so this fashion faux pas, along with “mum jeans” and “mum boots” is possibly outdated, but I still note it every time I wear my lovely comfy black boots.

Thank you MyRelationshipIsWeird . Well, you learn something new everyday. Grin

toffee1000 · 25/07/2018 23:32

Yes yes yes re dog situation. There was a thread in Doghouse about maltipoos, with over 100 comments; I didn’t dare open it because I knew what it’d be like.

LaurieMarlow · 25/07/2018 23:59

Mashed potato. Apparently the nutritional equivalent of crack.

According to someone on here, peanut M&Ms are a healthier choice.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 26/07/2018 10:02

Mmmm sausages, gravy and peanut M&Ms - delicious.
