husband taking daughter for glasses advice instead of me?

My husband is taking our (fashionwise 'edgy', although that's kind of besides the point) 14 yr old DD with him to help him choose his glasses. I have made it clear in the past that if he wants help choosing, I would really like to be involved/help choose. Somehow I feel it is a bit more of a wife's job than a daughter's job... and I feel a bit resentful that he is taking her and not me! Am I being bonkers?

Sandyfeet101 · 24/07/2018 13:12

Very!

Booboostwo · 24/07/2018 13:12

Yep quite bonkers. Doesn’t sound like either a wife nor a daughter job specifically, he can take anyone he wants with him or go by himself.

Andromeida59 · 24/07/2018 13:12

Yep

Phosphorus · 24/07/2018 13:13

Yes, totally!

It's no ones 'job'.

I'd ask my teenager's advice over my husband's when it comes to glasses, clothes, food..loads of stuff.

Amanduh · 24/07/2018 13:13

Yes very

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/07/2018 13:13

Another yes.

Pascha · 24/07/2018 13:13

Isn't it just an excuse for father/daughter bonding time? 'come and help Dad choose some new specs and I'll take you for lunch' kind of thing?

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

APMom · 24/07/2018 13:13

Yes you’re bonkers. It’ll be good for your dd to give advice to her dad, an afternoon out together will be good for them. I’d take fashion advice from my kids before my dh and our dd came with us when he was buying a new suit - I was only really there to do my own shopping.

Doyoumind · 24/07/2018 13:13

Yes!

Butterfly1066 · 24/07/2018 13:14

Yep!

Gruach · 24/07/2018 13:14

Oh dear. That does sound like a rather brutal statement of his opinion on your fashion awareness!

Has he ever said anything disparaging about your own style?

LML83 · 24/07/2018 13:16

I think it's nice he wants DD opinion and/or excuse to hang out. I imagine they are harder to come by as teens grow.

AudaciousCockerel · 24/07/2018 13:16

It does make you sound a little bit insecure.he probably thought it was a nice thing to do with your daughter. Also, maybe he doesn’t want you to help him choose his glasses, which might make you a bit sore, but they are HIS glasses, to be fair to him

Singlenotsingle · 24/07/2018 13:17

Saving you a job. You should be pleased.

blueskiesandforests · 24/07/2018 13:18

You are being bonkers, yes.

If you wanted advice on an outfit for a special occasion would you take DD or DH?

Even if you'd take DH, nobody would think taking DD was weird, infact most would think it was a good way to spend time together and indicated mutual respect and a good relationship.

Guavaf1sh · 24/07/2018 13:19

Yup

rainingcatsanddog · 24/07/2018 13:19

Yes.

Sometimes it's hard to come up with bonding opportunities with teens so I can see why this is a great opportunity to spend one on one time with his dd (and to enjoy having her compliment him on his fashionable specs later rather than more jokes about adults being unfashionable)

Hotpants · 24/07/2018 13:20

Oooh how interesting that this is unanimous! OK I will keep that feeling in check then. It's funny I am never 'jealous' of my daughter (!) but for some reason I was feeling a bit hurt that, if he wanted guidance, he was taking her advice but not mine (on something that he will wear on his face, for a long time). But I realise I'm being irrational. I think the feeling is exacerbated by other stuff where we don't agree on how to parent her. Thanks for steering me back!

It will be nice for them both to have a bonding day. Not being mean but you don't need to be there to help him pick glasses.

It's probably a nice excuse for a day out for father daughter time. Smile

wrenika · 24/07/2018 13:21

Yep.
