To leave my baby alone sleeping in the garden every day?

Always in the shade and I check him regularly to make sure he's not crying. I'm no advocate of CIO and it's purely because he sleeps well out there not because I won't hear him (as I suspect in times past it may have been the reason)!

I blame my Mum who always asks why he's napping indoors when she comes round and promptly asks if she can wheel him out in his Pram.

Does anyone else do this regularly?

Yes, I used to when mine were babies. My mum used to do it with me. So long as its in the back garden with no access to passers by, and safe otherwise, its the best way of getting the DC to sleep.

Well I wouldn’t because we have a fox problem, but if baby is safe, then why not?

I always did with my daughter from newborn until she dropped her naps age 3. Id Park her up, make a cuppa & sit in peace & quiet! Bliss. As long as you have an eye on her, fine. My mum did the same with me 35 years ago.

Yes did it with both of mine,summer and winter. They used to sleep for hours.

I think it’s very common in Scandinavian countries - hardly surprising with all that lovely fresh air.

Yes they do sleep so well out there. I know my siblings and I were always put out to sleep.

Did it all the time with DS. There are photos of men blanketed up in my silver cross with snow on the pram cover.

Yes absolutely. Once they're in the shade and you're checking on them every so often I can't see how it's any different from napping indoors.

It feels weird to do it in this country, but all over the world its entirely normal.. Especially Scandinavia. Copenhagen has prams all over the place

It's funny that I seem to be the only one I know that does this. It does seem natural.

I’d be terrified to leave my baby outdoors unsupervised. Anything could happen! Abduction is the main concern but also a wasp, choking, crying, etc. My baby is never out of my sight for more than a couple of minutes.

Well what age is the baby? I did it once or twice but worried if I wasn't following the advice about having a baby in the room with you for all naps/sleeps till 6 months.

Why would you not do this though?

@DamsonPie I understand your concerns but don't really share them. I'm far more paranoid in my car in this heat and will stop and check him after 30 mins + driving

I do this for DS. Sleeps so good and is hardly ever poorly. I do it in all weather conditions too, there's either a rain cover or fly net on the pram so nothing can get in with him. It's the only time I can have a coffe while it's still lukewarm

Damson that's lovely but some parents do enjoy an hours peace and quiet while their baby naps outside. And I am sure that the parents take into consideration the nearly non existent very small risks before doing so. Not everyone wants to stare at their PFB all day, some of us do enjoy a bit of down time and there is nothing wrong with that.

He's 3 m. At night he sleeps right next to me but nap times no. He's not my first and his nap time is time to do other stuff.

I would have done this if the weather was good when mine were little. Just check on them every now and again..its not really any different to them being in your living room tbh, except they are getting fresh air too, so bonus.

You can get bug nets for prams.

I trained as a nursery nurse and we used to line all the old Silver Cross prams up outside the nursery, it was great. Fog was the only time we didn't.

It helps babies get used to circadian rhythms, they need to get daylight in their eyelids in the afternoon, so a nap outside or trip out is very beneficial and good for sleep.

That's interesting about their circadian rhythms. It makes complete sense and is another bonus.

The only thing I would do is put a net on the pram- the type that stops birds, bugs, wasps , cats etc getting on baby.
But apart from that it’s lovely- glorious fresh air, the sounds of nature and the world .......it’s a glorious summer and wonderful for your child. Make sure you take advantage and maybe sit in the shade with baby and a good book.........enjoy your summer!
